Erasmus Hotel was absolutely perfect for our 3-night stay in Ghent. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from the train station, and once you're there, it’s ideally located—step left or right from the front door, and you're just 5 minutes from the central historic area everyone comes to see. There's a Proxy grocery store right next door and an Albert Heijn just 5 minutes away for anything else you need. We stayed in Room 8, which faced the street. The room was spacious, with two chairs, a bureau for clothes, and a table setup for coffee and tea. It was serviced daily, which was a nice touch. The bathroom had a bathtub with a hand held shower and no full walkin—which might be unusual for some, but it didn’t bother me (I grew up with that!) Breakfast was included and served in the main dining room—and you can really tell they take pride in it. The spread was fantastic: cereals, granola, fresh vegetables, nuts, meats, cheeses, tea, coffee, espresso, grapefruit and orange juice, and a variety of breads. You also have your choice of hard boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, or an omelette, made fresh. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend Erasmus Hotel to anyone planning a visit to Ghent!

Breakfast was really good, the host & staff were really friendly. The building was authentic & historic Although there were no mod cons, I loved the medieval look & charm to the rooms & building. Right down to the suit of armour in the breakfast room and the classical music being played in the morning Great location for the old town & attractions

There are no mod cons in the building as it is so old.. If you like all your creature comforts and smart TV, then this isn’t the place for you

Lovely old house. Privately owned and feels very loved-for. Owner checked me in and was serving breakfast the following day. He is a musician and speaks perfect English. The antithesis of an Ibis or indeed the ugly modern Marriott across the road. Nothing fancy, so perhaps not right for those who value globally homogeneous sheen. However if you wish to spend time in an ancient merchant’s house and don’t really care how modern the bathroom fittings are, then I recommend Erasmus without qualification.

I very much need the exercise of climbing stairs, so three flights was appreciated. Other travellers may wish to review access arrangements.

My boyfriend surprised me while I was here. Since no one mans the front desk I was unable to let them know he was staying for the night. His response to being asked in the morning why he was in the hotel wasn’t a response I would give and I apologize for that. However I paid for a room and I was unknowing to his arrival. I would have liked Peter to have mentioned something upon check out and not to have been down talked to when leaving. This is a great hotel . However I was judged upon appearance when I first walked in . Do not judge a book by its cover - because you do not know the pages within. Or in this case do it judge upon one’s appearance as you have no clue what they have in there wallet.

Well. I chose in the last moment the cheapest w parking lot. The advert said about old patrician house. When a patrician serves your breakfast you want to forget about self serving refractories at Mc_ for the roughly the same price. But if you buy sweetened water at the price of milk.... And breakfasts were with a soft classical music background. I don't think is the owner attention to detail but I heard a piece of Romanian rhapsody. Me being romanian. Mind blowing

The main lunnch room and living have Maximilian armors pianos and so many beautiful things for atmosphere doors and upper levels has art deco 20 cents decadent style

It is a lovely historic building, right in the centre of Ghent. Room was comfortable, host and staff were exceptional. Very friendly & welcoming, going the extra mile when I needed to stay longer all of a sudden because of a trainstrike. Breakfast was very good and as much as you wanted. Good value for money. Would love to come again.

I liked everything. Just a short warning that this monumental building doesn’t have a lift.

The hotel is a unique historical house conversion with authentic old antiques and decor. Great location 3 minutes from the main central area and Sint-Michiels Parking 🅿️ which we used for the car. (Remember to pre-register your car with the Ghent ULEZ vehicle emissions registry to enter the city.) We asked for, and had two twin rooms with single beds. These rooms were nice and located on the top floor with pitched ceilings and exposed beams. The breakfast room was indeed grand and had a very good spread of morning fare. Staff fantastic, accommodating and helpful. There is a small urban supermarket next door that closes about 8pm.

I don’t believe that there is a lift and the stairs to the fourth floor are wooden so we had to tread quietly returning late at night. Carrying the suitcase up was a good workout. This is a nice hotel in an older building. If I wanted characterless, modern, 21st Century accommodation then I would have stayed in a Marriott or Hilton.

Felt like we were staying in an old castle. Large room, expansive windows. The dining/breakfast room enhanced the feeling. For us, it was not a fancy hotel, but one worth the experience.

Bathroom and shower a bit primitive but not a problem. I wish the breakfast host would ask if you want eggs when you first come into the room, rather than waiting until you are mostly through eating. No elevator was a bit of a challenge for my wife.

Excellent location, parking easy from instructions given in advance. We were upgraded to their best room - definitely a step back into history. The suite was extremely spacious & beautifully decorated with period furniture. The breakfast room was amazing too along with the selection available. Service was attentive & the gentleman was charming from the moment we arrived till we checked out. Nothing not to like & very fitting to be taking a step back in time given the history of Ghent.

It is like staying in a stately home - there is so much space, and beautiful antique furniture. Even a suit of armour in the dining room! The bed was big and comfortable, and the breakfast was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's just a short walk from the centre of town, and not far from a tram stop if you want to travel further.

Because the streets are cobbled, any traffic outside can't help making a noise. It's on a quiet street, but still you could hear deliveries at 6am.
