Eric is one of the best hosts you could ever dream to have! Even tho, there was a slight inconfort for us in the beginning, Eric insisted to make it right for us, it was wonderful! Seriously, this has been so relaxing for us, it took me one week to come back from this trip and write this review. The place is also right in the center, next to the canal, you'll be in the right place to visit the city! For sure, if we come back to Gent, we'll stay with him. Thank for everything! We look forward to our Antwerp at your other place!

Nothing much, Eric made it right arranging another room for us with the initial incomfort we had in the first room at the base floor. Thank you again for doing this!

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at Schopenhauer, split between two very different suites. Both suites were spacious, comfortable and fun! There were books and pieces of art in both suites which made our stay interesting and enjoyable. Each suite had particular features - the sunken bed in the first one was very comfortable and the shower and outdoor space in the second one was great. In all the accommodation was great and added much to our visit to Ghent. The location of Schopenhauer was really good for exploring the city. A very few minutes walk took you to the heart of the city - the castle, the bell tower and cathedral.

We really had a wonderful stay! The owner was very nice and quick to answer our questions when we had some. The location could hardly be more central, only a few minutes by walk to the Korenmarkt. The living room is amazingly decorated and the whole place filled with all kinds of interesting books about painting, history etc. The room was incredible, with the most comfortable bed you'll ever see, and a bath behind thin curtains to relax in the light of candles...we definitely recommend it!

Nothing, all was perfect!

B&B Schopenhauer is centrally located next to some great restaurants, bars and cultural locations. It's a perfect place to stay during a holiday in Ghent. Schopenhauer is both comfortable and unique, it's a really special place to stay. The hammam was top notch. We also felt very welcome. We met Eric briefly and he was really lovely. His recommendations were great. We will definitely stay again if we visit Ghent in the future.

It was quirky - lots of interesting books, artwork and furniture. Lots of space and in a fantastic location. It was easy to find and access the property. The landlord was very amenable.

Toilet’s small and not very private. It’s quite hard to get out of bed ( being built into the floor) but we knew that when we booked. It’s a little tatty in places: wallpaper peeling above the bed, shutters not working.

The room is very spacious and in a great location. There is a shared corridor that leads to the bathroom, but we didn't hear anyone else around while we were there. The view from the room is lovely and the self check in process very easy.

Cleanliness could be improved. We moved the tray on the coffee table and there was a condom wrapper under it. You could tell thay tray hasn't been moved in ages and not nice to find that in the room.

We liked absolutely everything. There's not much to add to the accolades other guests already wrote. The location is absolutely superb in the "centre of everything", the host was very communicative, supportive and kind, the room is fabulously romantic and designed exactly as a honeymoon suite for couples interested in culture, history and arts. There's nothing else to add except for 10/10. We will happily return.

Eric's place - on the river in the heart of this beautiful medieval city - is the most elegant and comfortable B+B we've stayed in. Impeccable taste and decor - the room is furnished gorgeously and adorned with books in several languages - very, very comfortable shower and bathroom and pitch perfect location. The only downsides we could find are that the photos on Booking.com don't seem to capture how elegant and comfortable it is, and that we had to leave after a single night. This sounds like it might have been written by the owner, but I'm a genuine guest. Best value for money in Ghent. Joseph (London)

We liked everything.

If you want an exceptional experience, specially if you are traveling with spouse or partner, then look no further! Schopenhauer offers an artistically designed suit, in which you will fall in love. Decoration, lighting and interior is eye-catching! The suit is way bigger than average you can get in Europe within such price range. The location is ideal, only 2 min walk from Gent's historical center. There are several amazing eating places nearby. The hosts are a lovely couple, very friendly and intellectual! They will do their best to ensure a comfortable stay for the guests. The place comes with few nice surprises, which I won't spoil in here. For me, it was the best reservation I've ever made on booking.com!

If you are traveling on own car, parking will be an issue nearby. Other than that, everything was perfect!

In the old quarter of Ghent, on a cobbled canalside street filled with cool bars and an art shop and a bookshop - Schopenhauer is an amazing gallery space which becomes all your own to step inside and relax with books and paintings and a huge sunken bed and a sunken bath. The hospitality is exceptional and definitely book the breakfast!
