Good kitchen and nice staff

Beds should have curtains! Also, staying in the building next store was slightly inconvenient

It's a busy hostel with excellent location. Ideal to make new connections, and to visit Montreal. It is close to the river. My room was quiet. There was air conditioning, and it was silent, which is very rare in Canadian hostels. The beds were comfortable. Everything was clean. The receptionists - especially Ramon and Sabina - provided excellent customer service. I took my big suitcase out of the locker room numerous times, and they were always ready to help me. When I made another booking for additional 2 nights, and I had to change rooms, they allowed me to check-in early into the new room.

This is a hostel with excellent value for money! I have never stayed in a hostel so clean and well-organized. The hostel has volunteers who vacuum everything—including the rooms—every day, along with other cleaning tasks. The bathrooms and showers are also very clean, but what stood out the most to me was the cleanliness of the kitchen, the spacious cooking area, and how well the food is organized in the fridge. They offer black coffee from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, which is a lifesaver—you don’t have to go out or prepare your own coffee in the morning. The staff is very helpful, but I want to highlight two people who, in my opinion, went above and beyond. Claire, who is French, occasionally makes crepes for the guests—the best crepe I’ve ever had! I absolutely loved when Claire was on shift; she makes you feel at home, treating everyone with kindness and warmth. She is the perfect example of outstanding hospitality. And Meaghan, who was always incredibly helpful and empathetic with all the guests. The entire staff was great, but Claire and Meaghan truly left a mark on my heart, making me feel welcomed and at home throughout my stay. The hostel is in a perfect location, close to everything. If I ever return to Montreal, I would definitely stay here again!

Helpful, friendly staff. Good location. Good atmosphere; good lounge and cooking/dining areas. Very clean.

Suggestions: 1. Need plenty of wall hooks in dormitories (there were none in dormitory 100), in toilet areas, shower areas. 2. Need to adjust the location of the motion activated lights in the toilets. If one is taking some time sitting on the toilet, then all the lights go out such that one has to finish in the pitch dark. 3. The steam in the shower rooms is not being adequately exhausted. The rooms steam up considerably. The exhaust fan seems to have capacity but there needs to be more relief air. Suggest large undercuts, say 2-3”, to the bottoms of the shower entry doors, or vent grilles in the doors.

Aubergine Alt Hostel is situated at the center of old Montreal. This is an optimal accomodation for a solo traveler who wants to meet other travellers. The kitchen/lounge is very welcoming, and there is often communal cookies prepared by staff for the guests. The kitchen has most of the equipment you will need to prepare meals, and guests are respectful with space and timing in order to reduce kitchen congestion. The bed is comfortable and the associated locker provides a good sense of security for putting things away. Overall Alt hostel is a great place for open-minded travellers who want an affordable and central accomodation in Montreal.

There is a bit to remember regarding door pins, and moving through seperate buildings. Could be improved using a card system

The location was perfect, it was close to every attraction you could ask for. Nice restaurant, attraction parks, good night clubs. It was safe also, also keep in mind the bedrooms are not that big, but there are ok. You have lookers to keep your thing safe. There’s a beautiful kitchen where you can cook till 11 pm, however the hostal is open 24/7, besides that people was really friendly, specially Greg, he was so helpful and kind. Besides all of it, I met nice people they, that help me with my French learning process. Keep in mind, that it is a hostal, so there will be many people from different cultures. Also be aware that you can not have food in the bedroom neither eat there. And that you have to take off your shoes before entering the building.

The only thing I didn’t like is that they don’t knock the door before entering the room, but I imagine it was because it is a hostel.

The location is incredible. Bonsecours Market is right outside the entrance. You are not just nearby. Once you step out, you are already there. The Clock Tower is less than a ten-minute walk, and La Grande Roue and the zipline area are only a few minutes away on foot. Given the location, the price is very reasonable, especially for people traveling alone. The staff were kind and helpful throughout my stay. Claire was especially wonderful. Another staff member helped me with check-in (sorry, I did not get her name); she was also lovely and welcoming. Reception is available all day and night. You enter with a code, and each room has its own security code. The neighborhood feels safe even after dark. There are pubs nearby and people walking around until late. There is a clean shared kitchen next to the reception. You can store food in the fridge and label it with the supplies they provide. Coffee is available too. You can borrow a hairdryer at the front desk, which is convenient. There is also a laundry room with a sign-up board to manage the queue. Just keep in mind that towels are not included, so you will need to bring your own or rent one.

-All receptionists and hostel staff were helpful, gentle dealing and receptionist is providing clear guidance about hostel rules and facilities. -Easy to reach to hostel location. -Clean, Free strong WiFi and have free coffee all the time. -The location was great and nearby to various landmarks, restaurants, tourist places and the like. - Reasonable price, maybe lowest compared to others. - I have enjoyed staying in this hostel moreover the guests during my stay period were lovely, friendly and respectable.

I had an incredible experience at this hostel – it’s hands down my favorite so far, and I’ve stayed at many! The location is unbeatable, right in the heart of the Old Port of Montreal, a stunning area often featured in French-set movies. The charm of the neighborhood alone makes this place worth a visit. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed. The receptionists were exceptionally friendly and attentive, and even the guests were warm and sociable. I quickly made new friends, which is something I love about staying in hostels – that sense of community you can’t find anywhere else. The facilities were fantastic. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need to cook, including decent appliances and three fridges, which made it easy to save money by doing groceries. The bathrooms were clean and thoughtfully designed, with three showers featuring double cabins for extra privacy. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with natural stone walls, wooden accents, and even a little fireplace in the common area. Everything felt warm and homey. I also noticed that many of the guests were over 50, which is unusual for hostels but a pleasant surprise. The mature crowd was respectful and quiet, and the hostel’s clear rules – no cooking after 11 PM, no late-night drinking or lights – ensured a peaceful environment. Even in a 16-bed dorm, I slept soundly because everyone was so considerate. Each bed had its own lamp and a plug for charging your phone, which was super convenient. And the best part? All of this for under $25 a night! Finding a bed at this price in Montreal, with such amazing amenities and a great atmosphere, is an absolute steal. Overall, this hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Montreal – it’s a perfect mix of charm, comfort, and community.

The hostel is in a vibrant part of Montreal (the old port area), and provides basic facilities in a relaxed and friendly manner. The place is well managed and staffed by competent and friendly employees and volunteers ( the desk person Meghan was extremely helpful with using the metro and getting around the city, for which I am very grateful!). The atmosphere was relaxed and respectful, making for a pleasant and comfortable stay; I would stay at the hostel again, and would recommend it to friends.
