Very clean, well organised, great location - handy for shoos and restaurants as well as the metro station. Nice airy, modern feel, as well as having a Spanish vibe.

No down sides!

This hotel is in an excellent location close to everything you want to see. Very close to Anton Martin Station. But note this small station has multiple exits and there is another Hotel Catalonia in the same street. So look for the southern most exit to the street. You will see the Hotel. The room was very big by euro standards. One street over, there is an excellent local restaurant which is 100% gluten free. It is called Amores. I was leaving early the last day and the Hotel gave me the option of taking breakfast as a picnic. All GF. Was excellent. I was staying at the hotel during the 12 hr power outage in Madrid in May and the staff handled it well.

The hotel has been modernised and that is good but the decor is a bit bland. If you have a room facing the internal light well you will see lovely yellow tiling.

Hotel is located on main a street (Calle Atocha) and is within easy walking distance of the main sites: Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, Prado, Museum of Modern Art, etc. Although we had a room on the street side of the hotel, it was remarkably quiet. Room was spacious with a King bed and accommodating bathroom with a large shower. Everything is updated, i.e. modern, We stayed for five nights and were very happy with our time spent. Also, there's a coin-op laundry which is just a 3 minute walk away. Would definitely stay there again.

Very nicely appointed room with a really comfortable bed. (The room's only downside was that it gave a gloomy view of an interior courtyard.) Staff at Reception were extremely friendly and helpful on my arrival and with each subsequent query I had. The breakfast array was quite superb with greatly attentive staff. Special praise should go to all the staff for their work. Exceptional. It's worth noting that although the hotel is quite close to the busy station at Atocha (which is why I chose it), the main road leading to the hotel is steep and so carrying luggage will be a strain . . .

In each bedroom complimentary bottles of water should be laid out and clearly marked as such. This happens in most hotels. On departure I was charged for bottles as though they'd been taken from the mini bar (this was not the case), although that charge was waived when I protested. (TIP: Atocha's old station was [in May] undergoing major renovation, and so on leaving the new station it's better to go around it - if on foot, perhaps taking a right where the taxis are waiting at the exit - and not attempt to cross the lovely garden concourse of the main station, which is pretty chaotic.)

Very good and rich breakfast. Definitely worth the price. The restaurant in hotel acceptable, although nothing striking. Very helpful personell, very friendly. Clean and neat. Comfortable bed. We had our room at the back of the building lookin at a narrow, quiet street. This is definitely of importance as the main street in the front is quite noisy. This is a perfect place for walkin sightseeing. All important museums are in walking distance. A lot of restaurants in the vicinity. Good place to stay in Madrid!

During our stay there was a renovation in the hotel. This was not mentioned during reservation. It did not influece our stay.

Lovely staff and excellent location that is walking distance to many attractions and the Atocha train station which made day trips out of Madrid really simple. We actually checked out the morning of the Massive power and telecommunications outage in Spain on April 28th and ended up spending over 9 hours stuck on a train just 6kms from Madrid. When we finally returned to Madrid at 10pm we went back to the Catalonia Atocha to try and get a room for the night but they were fully booked. The super kind team allowed us to spend the evening in their lounge area which provided us with a safe and comfortable place to stay. We were able to charge our phones, had access to toilets, their internet and get some rest on their lounges. We were super grateful. Also, do yourself a favour and head two minutes down the road to Vivari Cafe and Bakery for Brekky. Lovely team, yummy cappuccino and excellent chocolate croissants 😊

The location was close to everything, the room was very nice and super quiet, the bed was comfortable, the pool was also very nice. The best part was the breakfast-it was phenomenal! The staff were very friendly and helpful. There were also two different containers of flavored water in the lobby so you could drink water when you got back from walking about. I really appreciated that they had one container without cucumbers because I can’t stand the taste of them. I thought this was really thoughtful.

The air conditioning was not great and it took a long time to cool down the room.

The hotel was in a great location. 10 minutes walk from the main train station that I think connects to the airport. Reina Sofia Gallery is 5 minutes away, housing the Guernica painting by Picasso and many other art treasures. A lovely 15 minute walk takes you to the Prado Museum. The location is super.

The breakfast. Overpriced and for me, a very limited range of breakfast food. The bacon was oily and either tough or under cooked, no option for poached eggs, and the scrambled eggs were just not nice, remember this is my judgement, but it's important to share. We had an under cooked burger in the bar area, but the staff were so nice and helpful. Please understand I'm not one to complain unless there is a reason, but honest comments help me make judgements on where I stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Catalonia Atocha in April and rated it very highly so, when returning to Spain for another holiday in June, this time with our (adult) children, we booked it again. Once more we found the rooms large, comfortable, well-appointed and - despite the hotel being on a main road -- quiet. The location is excellent - 15 mins walk from Atocha station and the Prado etc. or, in the other direction, Plaza Mayor and the cathedral. The staff are friendly and very efficient, with excellent English but without forcing it -- I like to try out my Spanish rather than reception automatically switching to English. The breakfast was excellent -- scrambled and boiled eggs, plain and vegetable tortillas, half a dozen different cereals, fruit, several different juices, a wide range of pastries, breads and cakes, freshly ground coffee and even sparkling wine if you like to start your day with a fizz. We are all vegetarian but there was plenty, hot and cold, for the carnivores too. They will also cook eggs to order if you prefer fried or an omelette.

Nothing to dislike! It would have been nice to use the rooftop pool before breakfast though.

Loved everything! Our hotel room exceeded our expectations. So spacious and very clean. A fabulous bathroom (best one from our whole 5 week trip throughout Europe). Rooftop pool is awesome with excellent bar service and views of the city. Highly recommend and will return again one day :)

Only note is that the pool is small and seating/lounges under umbrellas is limited so it does get full pretty quick come siesta (we went in early July). Just something to keep in mind if you want to spend some time up at the beautiful pool area.
