Overall, this budget business hotel is well worth the stay. Let me break down the entirety of our experience and hopefully answer any questions you may have while you browse: - The hotel is located in Ueno(-Hirokiji), right next to the famous Ameyoko Shopping Street for an authentic experience in both dining and local shopping. It is prime location: not too noisy at night, surrounded by restaurants and stores, and there are at least 3 Family Mart/7-11s within 5 minutes of walking and 3 drugstores for anything else you might need. - It is a 7-minute walk from Ueno Park, which is not only a beautiful place to sit on a bench and enjoy a quiet morning, but also contains several important sites: 5 museums, a stunning lotus pond, and a Buddhist temple. - There are 4 different metro stations within walking distance. We never had to move far to go between wards/districts. - The hotel reception is located on the 2nd floor, which means you don't have to walk through it when you leave; you can just take the elevator to the ground floor. - That being said, the reception contains free amenities: everything from face masks to toothbrushes to pajamas and chargers if you need. It's also where you can find the designated smoking room, a washing machine (detergent is included in the machine) and a variety of drink vending machines. - Hotel staff are very friendly and non-intrusive. Check-in was digitally seamless. - Is the room small? Sure. When leaving, we had to pack our suitcases by the door because it was the only place we could open it fully. That being said, we were aware this was a business hotel coming in and that we would use it only as a place to rest our feet and sleep at night, so it was excellent for the cost. Overall, it was a fantastic stay. We spent hours choosing between hotels and writing pros and cons, but Sotetsu Fresa met our needs, exceeded our expectations in terms of location, and we would definitely book again when we come back to Tokyo.

I loved the location in Ueno. There were plenty of amazing food options nearby. Subway stations were also very close which was much appreciated. There is also a PARCO mall, nearby market, Don Quijote, Uniqlo close by. I thought for a foreigner, this was a great location that was not as packed as other cities like Shibuya. My friend and I each got our own separate room. Each room had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. They provided pajamas and slippers. As well as other amenities such as face masks and tea downstairs. Very convenient to also have a washer and dryer. I was able to do some laundry after 2 weeks in Japan with clear English instructions. The TV also provided information if any of the washers were in use. They also have a weighing scale downstairs which helped me stay on track on my last night before flying out the next day for my luggage’s! The staff accommodated my friend and I to have our separate rooms next to each other. They also let me do early check in with a fee. Check out process was on an automatic machine and a breeze. Staff seemed to be available at all times.

I think it’s common to have small hotel rooms in Japan. Wish I could’ve had both of my medium and large luggage’s open on the floor to make packing easier but there was only room to have one luggage open at a time. I made it work though!

Sotetsu Fresa Inn Ueno-Okachimachi provided me a very stable base of operations for my vacation to Tokyo. The location of the hotel is between a few train stations which made it very easy to travel around the city. The room was a typical size for Tokyo business hotels, and was very clean. At the time of my vacation, the room was cleaned every 3 days (and more upon request). The lobby had very nice free amenities like sunscreen, bath salts, and pajamas. The laundry room also had drink vending machines and microwaves to use. Overall, Sotetsu Fresa had all the amenities we needed for an excellent price in Central Tokyo.

As with most Tokyo hotel rooms, I wish the room could be big enough for a small couch, coffee table, and microwave without having to pay for a premium price. Despite the size, it was still extremely comfortable.

Fantastic value for money in a vibrant part of Tokyo. We chose this location as we were arriving on a late flight, and the Keisei skyliner goes directly to Ueno. We stayed for a week and loved the Ueno area - there was plenty to do/see/eat just within short walking distance (Ueno park, Ameyoko shopping area, Akihabara) and it was so easy to reach other places by subway. Asakusa/Senso-ji temple is also very walkable. The hotel itself was very clean and I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities offered (even sunscreen packets and face masks!). Yes, the rooms are tiny, but space is at a premium in Tokyo and we felt the layout of the room was efficiently designed. It kind of felt like staying in a cruise ship cabin. There is coin laundry available (2 machines) and we were able to do a few loads of laundry during our stay, which was convenient. You do not need to buy detergent - that is included in the machine settings. We did not buy breakfast with our room. There are plenty of convenience stores nearby as well as a Komeda’s coffee (which gives you a small breakfast/snack if you buy a beverage). We would definitely stay here again.

Clean room, small but great for 1 person. It's basically just a narrow walkway straight to a bed, with the bathroom to the side. As long as you know what to expect, you will not be disappointed. I got a double bed, so it still felt very spacious. Kind of hard to open luggage. I managed with my carry on, but larger luggage will have issues. Bed was great, but I prefer firmer beds. pillows were a bit hard, but I think that's just standard in japan. Minifridge, kettle and TV included. View was of the alley, but it was still pretty. Housekeeping was good. Laundry has a pin code and automatic detergent. It's wash and dry in one machine. English instructions available. You can also see if it is vacant from the TV or check up on when your laundry is done. Free toiletries in the lobby. AC takes a while to kick in but it works very well. Location is excellent. 2 minute walk straight to Ueno-hirokoji A2 entrance, which I used for pretty much my whole trip. Also, ueno station, park, and plenty of other metro lines. 7/11, drugstore, donkii etc.

There are only two laundry machines, so make sure to go during an off time like the middle of the day or early morning. Other than that I loved the laundry facilities though. Btw it costs 300-400 yen depending on weight or if you want to dry it. There is only luggage forwarding to the tokyo area and cash on delivery (the recipient has to pay the money) so luggage to other areas isn't possible. The check-in and check-out were on a screen. This is fine, but it was a bit confusing, so the attendant had to help me anyways. Check-out was easy tho

Location to subway. Easy to get to other areas of Tokyo with direct lines like the Ginza for one - Shibuya, Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, or Asakusa. Convenient location to catch the rapid train to Narita - walking distance with luggage. So really a very good location. Positives for the room - we had peace and quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Good temperature control in room.

Just be aware that the room is small, even by Japan standards. If you have medium/large pieces of luggage you will have to work your way around them within the room. There is almost no space between foot of bed and outside wall. Same for the space between the bed and the desk - limited space, especially with luggage. However it is Tokyo so this is more likely the norm.

Comfortable bed. Overall clean facilities and I liked the numerous toiletries provided (basic toiletries but also provided sheet mask, hair mask, and even bath powder). The staff were always willing to help you out and had excellent English. The location was also great - close to various subway and bus stations as well as plenty of food options right nearby (Ameyoko Shopping Street is less than a few minute walk away!). Room is on the smaller side, but had everything I needed.

There was an ever present faint smoking smell in the elevators and lobby. None in my room though. After the required cleaning of my room on the third day, there were weird small brown pebble-like things in my bathroom. I should've taken a picture, but unsure of what they were. Very strange. Breakfast was subpar, but I did appreciate the ability to use your breakfast voucher during lunch if you missed breakfast. I would get a daily coffee/drink instead (voucher was worth 850 yen).

What I love about this hotel: 1. Location (only about 20 steps from Ueno Hirokoji, walking distance to Okachimachi, Naka Okachimachi, Ameyoko, 7E, Uniqlo) 2. Hygiene (cleanliness is good) 3. Thoughtfulness (provided amenities in the room, things opposite the reception like pyjamas n others, microwave, ice maker etc) 4. I requested for a bigger double room (still compact Tokyo size but a wider, enough for us to keep our luggages open, and for my toddlers to play). 5. I love the reception & hotel’s vibe. It’s bright, smells nice, & minimalist deco and pleasing to the eye.

The normal sized room is very compact, but that’s a normal for Tokyo.

This is a great hotel. The location is excellent. Only a few minutes walk from the metro stop and in among many places to eat and only a block from the lovely Ueno park. Yes, the room is tiny, they all are in Tokyo unless you pay big money. We found it extremely clean. Don't bother paying for the breakfast, its not great, instead go to one of the many cafes around for breakfast. The hotel is also a one minute walk to several convenience stores if you don't want to eat out. Super convenient.

Breakfast was not worth the money.

I was a little slow in taking full advantage of the amenities the hotel offered, such as bath salts, hair and facial masks. I had stayed in this location at the beginning of our trip, also in Kyoto and Osaka, so now I had more confidence in taking advantage of the amenities. This made my experience so much more relaxing, each location has a roomy bathtub which allows for a relaxing bath (even for plus sized people), this allowed me to create my own spa experience, relaxing in a hot bath, applying hair and face masks while having a lovely hot cup of tea. I enjoyed my trip and this helped me return from vacation relaxed and ready to go back to work.
