Stayed for 8 days from 30 Jun - 7 Jul 2023. Stayed on 7F (7 floor, top floor) Pros: 1. Capsules are generally clean. Staff will clean capsules every morning around 9-10am, unless you close the blinds to instruct them not to. 2. Hot and cold onsen as well as sauna room is available. 3. Lockers are large. Can fit my bag-pack and my bags of souvenirs. 4. Stayed during summer period (off peak season), so not very crowded. May be more packed and the experience may be diff during peak seasons. 5. Great location. 5 mins walk from Ueno station.

1. ONLY FOR MALE GUESTS. 2. Coz of the smoking area on 4F, there is a faint smoke smell on the capsule floors. I stayed on 7F and could still smell cigarette smell, so may not quite annoying on the first day. Subsequently, I got used to it. 3. The counter does not do a security verification when handing keys to guests. I’ll just simply ask for my room number key and they’ll give it to me. 4. It’s a public shower and onsen, so if you’re not comfortable, better not to stay 5. Capsule may be hot at times and no fan in room. Usually need to wait for aircon in hall to cool up the entire place. So normally I’ll just open the blinds to my capsule to let the cold air in before I sleep.

Stayed here as it's very close to the Skyliner Airport train to Narita Airport, perfect spot if you need to get to the airport for an early flight. Great little capsule hotel with an Onsen, very traditional Japanese feel compared to the more foreigner focused hotels I stayed at in other parts of the city. Great neighbourhood to explore, lots of good local food and places to get a drink.

No elevator to the second floor so you have to carry your bags up. A bit of a strange system where you leave your key with the front desk when you go out, then pick it up from them when you return.

Truly exceptional property that ticks all the boxes. Staff are welcoming, efficient and do their best to make your stay a comfortable one. I stayed for 8 nights in a basic capsule on 7th floor, and then moved to a larger capsule on level 3 for a further week. The larger capsules (and subsequently lower density of guests on level 3) are worth the approximately 20% increase in tariff. However, the standout attraction of this property is its onsen which is open 22 hours a day, and which hosts 10 Aufguss sessions each day. They are as varied as the Aufgussmeisters who perform, but they were never dull. So much fun.

Any negatives relate to the thoughtlessness of other guests (taking on the phone until midnight in their capsule, taking calls at 3am, packing and unpacking their luggage at 5am - the list goes on). There is little the hostel can about such behaviour, and I include it here to remind other guests that it ain’t a hotel room. You need to respect the close proximity of your fellow travellers at all times in a capsule hotel. And as a possible suggestion to improve the property: consider dimming the hall lights on the capsule floors, say from 11pm to 7am. The light shines through the ends and the holes of the curtains lighting up your capsule. This was particularly noticeable on the 3rd floor.

It was my first trip to Japan, and the staff was very kind and helped me with everything I needed. The hotel was very clean and quiet. Most of the guests were quite young, but the atmosphere was very respectful. The onsen is great, though it tends to get quite crowded during the day. Except at the reception, you need to take off your slippers on each floor. There’s a small smoking room, and I never had to wait to use it. They offer free luggage storage, and even though it's in a shared area, I had no issues at all. Plus, on your floor, you have a personal locker that’s spacious enough. The capsule I booked was medium-sized and more than enough for me (I’m 1.84 meters tall). They provide pajamas and towels. The place is just 5 minutes from the station and Ueno Park, and only one street away from Ameyoko. On top of that, the price is unbeatable. I highly recommend it.

The only thing I can say I didn’t like was having to carry a little slip of paper to get the locker key when returning to the hotel. Also, there are a lot of people in the onsen during the day.

the oriental decorations make a nice difference. still japanese standards are respected. Clean, quiet and professional. the multilingual team at the welcome desk is respectful and efficient. bed was comfortable. i am 6'1 (1.87m). so it might feel a tight if you are taller than that. there is a TV screen in the cabin where you sleep. public showers are conventional ones. the hot bath is great. best floor is the 4th floor as there is everything there. big luggages can be stored at the 3rd flooe. they have lockers included, same floor as the bed. they furnish small towels and sleeping clothes. shoes are not allowed inside. but the floor is not cold.

the TV takes a lot of space. there was no Air flow in the cabin. bed 765.

This hostel was incredible, one of the best where I stayed!! There is a common area with sento and sauna avaiable for all guests also during the night and the hostel usually arrange a special event in the sauna with aufguss. Very good price, compared with other similar hostels in Tokyo. My stay was perfect and I met a lot of other tourists!!

On the first day I arrived at the hostel very early, after 10 hours of night bus... so I needed to take just a shower but I had to pay the full price for using the common bathroom, without any discounts.

I think this place should be rated higher. I was surprised by the 6.8 rating after staying here because it’s quite a nice capsule hotel with a nice vibe and good lounge room with recliner chairs and various vending machines. They even have the bottled milk vending machines that you would find at some onsens. I chose one of the bigger capsule beds which was quite comfortable and it was also nice that my locker was right in front of my bed. Location is in the heart of Ueno in Ameyoko market. Note that there is an Ueno Station Hostel 2 within the vicinity, which I’ve stayed at as well, but this one is much better.

No private showers and the shower room can get quite crowded. The changing room for the public bath is also pretty small and cramped where you might be ass to ass with a bunch of dudes 👀

CLEANNESS Place was very clean overall. The capsule that i was sleeping was clean and also big.(I am 1.93cm. I had some doubts about fitting in the capsule which turned out good.) Showers are like little rooms with a door and they were very clean too. There is also shampoo for you to use . LOCATION It's location is very close to Ueno Station(3-4mins by walking) which is a central station which you can use to reach various subway lines. You can travel from Narita Airport to Ueno station in app. 45mins which is perfect. There is a starbucks, lots of places to eat nearby. WHO SHOULD STAY? If you're person who travels alone and doesn't care about seeing other people sleep, hearing them snor or walk by, this place is perfect for you.

Towels can be bigger. Pillows can be more comfy.

- Check in staff were friendly - Nice public bath and shower. Very comfortable and it came with some light amenities such as toothbrush, razors and q-tips - Bed was surprisingly comfortable - If you stay for more than 1 night. There is no need of mandatory cleaning if you choose not to like in traditional Japanese capsule hotels. Sometimes you want to sleep in which made a huge difference when booking this property and I was so glad that there was no mandatory cleaning to wake up and come back the afternoon to use the room again. - Very retro capsule hotel - Right in the heart of Ueno and walking distance to Akihabara - Lounge chairs were very comfortable and lots of manga to read if you’re into that

- Only 1 elevator to use for the whole capsule hotel/hostel - My TV wasn’t working in terms of showing the programming (barely used it) - For some people not into the retro vibes. This may not be it for you. - The toilets have the very old school toilet and tiles

It is in a great location and has a onsen and comfortable chairs in the lounge. It is mostly clean and have everything you need. What you get for the money is fantastic considering the location

It is somewhat old and torn. If you look more closely you see that there are leftovers under the matress etc. They have a great room where you can work and sit by proper tables, but it's only available if you buy the fanciest capsule alternative.
