I liked- no, I loved everything. The ground level, a place to chill. Open workspace, a breakfast/snack/bar, comfy couches, modern industrial deco with a lot of color… The room- big bay windows on two sides, clever design for use of the space (18m2), supremely comfortable bed, mechanical blinds, great shower pressure. Clean, bright, quiet, and dog-friendly! The Canvas bar/restaurant lounge on the 7th floor- colorful ambiance with friendly staff, an outdoor terrace, and big bay windows. Great tapas (bitter ballen, sweet potato fries, drumsticks…) everyone in there is happy and smiling ear to ear. The Bad Plaats- on the 8th floor for guests: free sauna and two barrel jacuzzi’s with a panoramic view of Amsterdam! Safety- yes. 100% Quality vs affordability- yes. 100% Transportation?- right outside! Metro Wibautstraat, lines 51,52,53 Will we always come to Volkshotel when we come to Amsterdam? Dam’ right we will!!!!! P.S. loved all the funny signs all around, Volkshotel has a great sense of humor!

It is a very unique establishment. It was obvious that a lot of creativity and effort went into it's creation. I liked the decor of the first floor lounge and roof deck. I went for the breakfast buffet each day, which I thought was a good deal considering how much you can eat. I like to eat enough for breakfast so I can skip lunch when traveling.

I have never stayed in such a tiny room before. It was one of their "cabins" with shared bathroom facilities. I wanted to try it so I could see how well I tolerate it. I am a little claustrophobic. I was still adjusting to the time difference, which always makes sleep difficult. You can hear others coming and going outside the door. But when they are in the rooms, you don't hear them. I have to admit that the soundproofing is quite good.

Beautiful Hotel in a brilliant location. Metro on the doorstep with Dam Square being 5mins away. The location was just perfect for us as family with young children. Very friendly staff on reception to helping with luggage to giving attractions ideas to make our holiday more memorable. Thank you 😊 The cafe/bar was a lovey area to sit and chill on an evening have a chat with staff who were very friendly. Thank for the celebrations for my son Birthday he was overwhelmed it made his day ☺️ The hot tub/extras on the rooftop that was lovely bonus to have and enjoy relaxed evening. I only noticed the restaurant on the top floor on our last day, it was beautiful setting I wish I had seen it earlier. Overall beautiful stay I loved the vibes of the hotel specially the family rooms with the spacious bunk beds that was bonus. I will definitely book again when am back to visit the Netherlands.

Everything was perfect. It made our holiday more enjoyable.

Loved the quirky design of the room, it was spacious, bed was comfortable & nice powerful shower. Staff were very nice too 😁. I felt there was a good spread at breakfast, with some hot food items (bacon, eggs) in addition to the usual continental breakfast.

Whilst I had a good sleep on the first night, Friday night was particularly noisy. I assume it was the bass from the club (Doka)? it was pounding & went on until the early hours of the morning (4-5am) after which I eventually got an hour’s sleep. After a quick check on google I can see this club goes on til 6am! I wish there was better soundproofing - wouldn’t book again on a Friday night if this is usually the case. Thursday was fab.

Very relaxed vibe, had a room for 4 of us to stay together, convenient to transit options. Staff were really friendly and helpful.

The business model is not really geared to families. 20 something travelers and hip business travelers or locals seem to be the target demographic and are fully supporting the business and the vibe. With two young teenagers, the spaces and amenities didn’t quite connect for us. That said, it was a really good room for us, our view of the city was terrific, and it felt like a great value for what we needed with not a lot of options elsewhere in the city. We appreciated the stay and would probably book again in the future.

The hotel was always clean, the facilities were nice (especially the hot tub and the sauna on the roof). Lovely staff, great spacious room. It's not located in the city center but easily reachable with a close by metro station (it's walkable if you don't mind walking for at least 15 minutes). Overall it was a good experience, and most probably will consider it again in the future.

The breakfast was disappointing, the variety was really basic and it felt too expensive for what they had to offer. It was sort of nice that they don't automatically clean the room everyday, but when we asked they didn't come (or we didn't feel like they cleaned at all).

The hotel was fantastic - staff were really helpful and suggested things to do and see in the local area and also supplied us with a handy map of the city. Food in the restaurant was lovely and general vibe was very chilled. Particularly liked the little cafe/bar area on the ground floor. We’d definitely stay there again as the area was so convenient for everything we wanted to explore.

The mezzanine bed was a bit tricky to get up and down to but beds were comfy. Lack of bathroom floor was annoying - instead there was a kind of chain curtain which was meant there was little privacy to be had although separate toilet did have a proper door.

Such a fantastic hotel with a brilliant vibe. The lobby area is amazing. Food. Tea, coffee, reading, lounge chairs, cosy nooks. Playing board games. Well appointed rooms. Loads of thoughtful storage. Funky vibe everywhere. Restaurant upstairs has panoramic views and serves and decent buffet breakfast which we had daily. Was a short walk to the metro, but we often walked a couple of ks into the centre. Staff were all great. Casual feel from everyone. We loved it!!!

A variety of restaurants and cafes are within walking distance, adding to the appeal of the area. My spring visit allowed me to explore the nearby surroundings on foot, and I’m sure a stay at Volkshotel would be equally delightful year-round.

We wanted something cheap and cheerful so went for this. When we arrived the lovely lady on the desk gave us an upgrade which we couldn’t believe! We’d originally booked just a cabin room with no bathroom or shower (communal) but were upgraded to a room with its own bathroom and shower which was perfect. The room was lovely and clean! The location was brilliant, right by the Metro and 10 minutes into the centre. The only thing we could fault was that the bed was a little hard and the pillow was quite thin. But we were hardly in the room unless we went back in the evening to sleep so wasn’t too much of a bother.
