This is a perfect hotel to visit the Loire Valley and Fontevraud Abbey. The hotel is situated INSIDE the old abbey in a beautiful park with direct access to the church where the tombs of Alienor of Aquitaine and Richard Lionheart are displayed. The hotel has been renovated with the aim of staying true to the monacal lifestyle, combining very cleverly beautiful woodwork and stone. Yet it is very comfortable, superbly stylish, perfectly quiet and eco friendly. No extravaganza, just beautiful and feeling good. The people at the reception are incredibly friendly and competent, visibly happy to work there. The food is superlative. There was sadly no available table at the main Michelin 1☆ restaurant (you need to book 2 months in advance I am told) but the "basket" served for dinner (which you can eat in the monks dining hall) was excellent. The breakfast was first class, all home made with the best products. Congratulations to the Fontevraud team which makes this hotel an absolute " Must Stay".

Very close to perfection. Maybe the glass of red wine from their local production served with the dinner "basket"...if I really try hard to find one criticism. Note that the wine list of the main restaurant which I checked is excellent with many gems at very reasonable prices: I recommend you pick a wine by the glass or a bottle from their wine list ...and ( no offence) the waiting list at the Michelin starred restaurant

The place is truly impressive. At night, there was a light festival, and after all the visitors had left, I was able to walk alone among the buildings with music and light effects – it was absolutely magical and unforgettable. There were also various art exhibitions displayed within the majestic walls and spaces of the church, chapel, and monastery. Silence, peace, and grandeur – all in one place. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and very interesting in their presentation. I would truly recommend this experience to anyone looking for something special and memorable.

Although the staff was very polite, helpful, and responsive, it was clear that there was a shortage of personnel. Dinner (which was pre-ordered) was slightly delayed, and the staff were constantly rushing around, so busy and concerned that it almost felt uncomfortable to disturb them. That said, everyone was truly kind and pleasant.

Only very minor hiccups! I wish there had been another option other than the coddled eggs at breakfast but only because I don’t like that kind of egg. I wasn’t expecting a gym at all so to find signs that there was a fitness room was a nice surprise but then it was very small and with limited equipment. And the guest access in and out of the property after hours wasn’t clear. There is a gate to let you go into the village but it’s not signed and how to use it isn’t clear. I had to walk back to reception to ask and, by the time I got back to the gate, there were 4 other people trying to work it out! I understand not wanting a sign at the gate with instructions but a sign could be posted at reception or in the hotel information. Or staff could just explain it in advance.

The Abbéy was really fabulous and the village is beautiful. The light show was wonderful as was the restaurant where we dined.

The room and hotel are well designed and comfortable, and we understand it is a heritage building so airconditioning cannot be installed, thus sadly the room was very warm, Thankfully when we visited it was not the hottest weather, but it still was too warm for a comfortable sleep, despite the fan. The outdoors bar is a nice idea but the service at the bar did not match the service in the restaurant, which is a pity.

One of my favourite stays of the trip. The entire space was so beautifully and minimally furnished, letting the history of the space speak for itself. The staff was amazing and so helpful and the room was super comfortable! We also loved the delicious dinner basket at 35 EUR that was provided by the onsite restaurant, a great way to experience the Michelin star kitchen in a casual and accessible way. The highlight was the essentially private access to the Abbey and the grounds after hours. It was such a memorable and special experience and I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would have! Highly recommend this stay, it's one of a kind!

The shower was super hot, took me a while to figure out how to turn it down as it was labeled incorrectly.

Fabulous tranquil setting and the son et lumière was wonderful. Breakfast expensive but very high quality.

Room incredibly hot. No a/c. A very noisy ineffective fan with bright lights - no use at all. Apparently they can put ice in it to make it cooler buts we weren’t told that. On ground floor with windows without insect mesh.. so disappointed cos so enthusiastic re: son et lumière.. but hardly any sleep at at all.. finally risked the insect bites and threw window open as heart thumping so wildly with overheating. Maybe just a problem with Room 3? ..

I had the best night's sleep of our trip at this superb hotel. Our room was spacious and beautifully (but simply) furnished and we had a bath to relax in after a long day's cycle. There is a good secure bike store with some tools available for emergency maintenance. The private night time viewing of the abbey is amazing and dinner in the restaurant was superb.

The abbey and hotel are about 7km uphill from Montsoreau on the main Loire a Velo cycle route. Loop route 10 from Montsoreau goes up to Fontevraud but goes up and down across vineyards (tough at the end of a longer than expected day), but we returned to Montsoreau the next morning by the main road which was a gentler gradient throughout. We had a long day's cycle ahead so decided we didn't have time to stop for breakfast which was a shame. We also wished we had been less tired when we arrived at the hotel and had been able to spend more time exploring the abbey and reading its information boards. Our room was quite warm when we first arrived at the hotel as there is no air conditioning but a thunderstorm that evening freshened the air so the room cooled at night with the window open.

The location was superb and the best thing about staying there was being able to visit the Abbaye out of opening hours. It made it a very special experience. The conversion of the Historic site was sensitively and beautifully done.

The cheap carpet in the corridors and bedrooms. The bathroom door very close and next to the bed and lack of storage in the room.

Amazing location in the grounds of Fontevraud Abbey, it was such a treat to be able to wander round the Abbey and grounds late into the evening. The staff were brilliant collecting our luggage from the car park as soon as we arrived, ensuring we had everything we needed during our stay and their enthusiasm during service in the restaurant.

The rooms were clean, with comfortable bedding and proper amenities (eg towel, shower gel, tv). There was a private carpark onsite as well, and the hotel provides free shuttle service to transport our luggage from the carpark to the hotel lobby. The establishment definitely preserved its deep history, where we got to explore the compound and its museum.
