We enjoyed our staycation in this lovely hotel just a few minutes walk from Eyre square. Great breakfast, clean room with good shower. Heater was manually set in room which we found great as sometimes hotel rooms in general can be too hot at night.... We found that the car park on site is cramped so make sure to allow time for this on departure especially if you are leaving early and were first in for parking. This was not a biggy for us as by the time we picked up rest of shopping (circa 15 to 20 minutes later) our space was cleared for exit by hotel staff.... I would highly recommend for price paid mid week at this hotel with excellent location..

Older property but the room was comfortable and the food served downstairs at the bar/restaurant was fantastic!

Car park is very tight

Galway is a beautiful city but small and easily walkable from one end to the other. The Western is located right next to Eyre square, which is the landmark we used navigate around. It's a huge hotel and full of character, in no way at all the type of generic standardised hotel that dominates short city breaks. The bar literally took my breath away, so large and stylish, a great range of beer and local whiskey plus staff that were friendly and knowledgeable PLUS they had a top quality traditional band playing jigs, reels and ballads 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. My daughter and I loved the Western to pieces! We will defo be booking again soon. Great job folks!

I loved it all, a great wee spot!

We booked a double and single room in advance. A couple of days before the trip we requested 3 single beds. The hotel kindly offered us a larger room with a double and 2 single beds at an extra cost of €50 which we were very grateful for

Breakfast service was buffet fruit and cereal, ordered hot food off the menu. The variety was poor as was the quality of the eggs. We ordered both scrambled and fried and both were poor.. the scrambled had an oily taste and we were unable to eat them.

The hotel bedroom was very clean and comfortable.

I was unaware that I needed to leave a deposit on arrival as I had already paid for the room in advance. It was fortunate that I had some cash as I only has Google Pay on my phone. I didn't find the receptionist on duty when i arrived to be particularly friendly - she did her job but, although i can't exactly say why, she just didn't make me feel particularly welcome. The morning receptionist was very pleasant though. I had an evening meal in the bar and was disappointed in the fish and chips I ordered. It was a very generous portion but the fish batter was greasy and the chips were dry - it was OK but not great.

Katie, the receptionist at the front desk, was absolutely delightful. She was extremely helpful in providing suggestions for things we should do or eat, and she was spot on for everything we tried. New bar was nice, and it was great to have live local music within the building so we didn’t have to leave on a rainy night. Location was great as well.

The bathroom could use some updating, as the water pressure and showerhead didn’t work very well, and the sink squirted everywhere. Windows rattled overnight in the rain so it got a little noisy.

The staff. We had just had a flat tire so I wrote to inform them we may be late. Exhausted on arrival, we were greeted by the front desk person-sorry can’t remember her name- and she was lovely. So empathetic. We were there to celebrate our 25th and entered our room to a beautiful plate of delicious desserts. So thoughtful. Too tired to go out, we went to the pub in the hotel where we met three wonderful people, all ready to converse. They also helped us with dining for our anniversary. So helpful. The valet person was also exceptional. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

The staff were the 10 pointers here. We were upgraded to a larger room and on the top floor. Our window opened fully and we had a little balcony (not accessible) outside, but there were pigeons cooing, so it was just a lovely thing to hear. This meant that there was air flow and we found that the room was comfortable and inviting. The parking attendant was so helpful with luggage and getting our cars in and out for us. He was attentive and lovely. 10 points. He deserves a raise for what he does for guests without complaint. Great location, within walking distance of markets, the Latin quarter, shopping centres, cafes and restaurants.

Although no ones fault the car park was at maximum capacity, so we had to leave the keys with reception. Because the space was full, at times it was awkward manoeuvring bags into the hotel. However, as stated above, the staff were always helpful, so this mitigated the situation.

The apartment we stayed in was actually located separately from the main hotel, above the TKMAXX department store. It is very close to the downtown center and within walking distance for everything you want to see. The unit was clean, spacious and perfect for our needs. It was convenient and comfortable and we would absolutely stay again. The staff was extremely polite and kind and assisted us with everything we needed. They truly went above and beyond. A wonderful experience all around at a time when we really needed it as a family.

Nothing. It was ideal for what we were looking for.

The staff where polite, warm, friendly and efficient nothing appeared to faze them. The Hotel was stunning inside. We arrived before our booking time but the receptionist could not have been more helpful and accommodating, we were offered an up grade to a two bedroom apartment which we accepted. The apartment was excellent with a fully equipped kitchen /dinning area , two double bedrooms the bed was very comfortable, bath with shower. and lounge area with TV. Anyone thinking self catering would use this. Breakfast was outstanding, the full Irish is a must but if you're worried about waist line not every morning there are cereals, fruit, yoghurts and juice available and vegetarian options. There is a Lunch and Dinner menu and full range of drinks, which can be access either from the bar or restaurant, prices are what you would expect in a city. Anyone arriving with a car there is an underground car park which you access from the back of the hotel. Anyone self catering or just needs access to a supermarket a Lidl's is within walking distance but it's at the bottom of a steep hill.

The hill, if you have mobility issues then you should be aware that The Western Hotel is situated on a hill which leads down into Galway City and it is steep, Galway City is a old city and the streets and paths are narrow and there are limited places to sit and rest, people tended to shop window ledges and electrical boxes to sit. At this time of the year the city was very busy again anyone in a wheelchair or mobility issues can make it difficult to get around.
