On arrival on a Saturday and we were a little worried about being over the top of a restaurant as the restaurant was busy and a bit noisy but we needn't have worried as the restaurant shut by 7pm each eve. The suite was overall a descent size, the living area was spacious and nicely furnished. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and not a bad word to say about them. Breakfast was tasty and quick and my son loved the fresh waffles & pancakes. We ate in both the Pizzeria and the Restaurant some evenings and found the food very good and service great and so along with the lovely bakery there is no shortage of great food. Its rare to find a 2 bed suite with breakfast included and it suited us well. There isn't a huge amount to do in Athenry itself but its well served with supermarkets, a few other restaurants (you do need to check when they are open) and the odd shop. The wall and ruins are an interesting walk around and its well positioned to travel to lots of lovely spots.
Just small niggles but the bathroom is a bit snug to say the least, one of the inner handles was broken on the shower door and the ceiling could do with some attention as the paint was peeling over the shower. The shower could do with a shelf or something to put your bottles on. Some better/thicker pillows and maybe a thinner duvet for the time of year.

Our room was very small but nicely furnished and we appreciated the small cakes as a welcome gesture! All the members of staff were very welcoming and helpful. They very quickly organised a new kettle for us when ours stopped working and they kindly provided an early breakfast for us on the second day. We used the carpark behind the restaurant which was very convenient. The accommodation is located in the centre of Athenry; the castle is within walking distance, as is the train station, and a supermarket is a short drive away. We enjoyed a meal in the pizza restaurant one evening and they had a great selection of cakes and pastries in the café/restaurant. Our room overlooked the road but it was not noisy at night.
We personally weren't very keen on the fixed breakfast menu - if you didn't want an elaborate cooked breakfast (which was very good!), there was only the option of sweet pancakes or ready-mixed quinoa/chia pots. It was a bit awkward having so little shelf space in the bathroom, particularly as our room was small and also had very little storage & shelf space. It would have helped to have a couple of simple hooks in the entrance area to the room to hang up jackets. This is not criticism but suggestions for improvement as we were perfectly happy overall with the accommodation and particularly with the friendliness of the staff.

The accommodation was superb, spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything we needed for a short stay. The rooms were spacious with great storage. The bathroom and shower were sufficient and also spotless. The breakfast choices were outstanding and the food was of a very high standard. The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. In the evening the pizzeria was exceptional, quality ingredients used and extremely reasonably priced. In addition there is also a beautiful coffee shop offering quality coffee and pastries. We would recommend The Barracks at Old Lodge to anyone visiting the beautiful village of Athenry or surrounding areas.
The room was exceptionally hot but this was probably due to the unseasonably warm weather when we visited.

Staff welcoming and worked hard to ensure guests were looked after. Good sized room and bathroom all freshly decorated and comfortable. As a group of three we appreciated getting a triple room which are not always available. Great to have choices of good places to eat of an evening on our doorstep - pizzeria, restaurant and Indian. Excellent bakery too below property. Great choice for breakfast in the morning. Loved the three pieces of cake in the room when we arrived. :)
Our room was directly above the pizzeria and we did hear some noise from it until it closed. A little awkward for three of us to only have one key to get access to the property where our room was. Very tight entrance to car park but good to have if.

We arrived late in the night, there were plenty of places to park the car, all details were provided on how to check in and even some welcome brownies which were delicious! The rooms were spotless and beds were very comfortable and a great nights sleep were had by us both. A selection of breakfasts were available just across the road at their restaurant which were cooked beautiful and arrived quick! All staff that we came across (cleaning and serving and booking) were welcoming, friendly and chatty! Nothing was ever to much to ask. Would highly recommended a stay at the Old Barracks! Thank you all for such a lovely and memorable stay! 💚
Nothing it was all perfect

The room was beautiful and clean, bathroom spacious with towel, hairdryer and soaps. Daniel greeted us, very polite and sweet! The breakfast was very good! We had dinner at the pizzeria, same management of the guest rooms, and it was super good! Lovely little town with amazing and welcoming people!
The only thing is that breakfast opens at 8.30 am. We had to leave early one morning and the night before Daniel gave us a bag with scones, bread, butter and jams. In case you have to leave early, like we did, just speak to the staff.

- Good location in a small town, very close to Galway. - Free bottles of water, and a welcome snack upon arrival. - Beds were comfortable, and duvet were warm. - Although narrow to enter, free parking available for guests. - Breakfast included in the price (1 dish and 1 drink to choose from several options, including vegetarian ones). - "Do not disturb" sign available. - Water boiler, coffee and tea available for guests.
- Tight check-in times, and pushy about arrival time, even within check-in hours. - No small desk available in the room. It'd have been nice instead of a extra single bed. - Rooms cannot be locked. - Heating system turns off at night till the morning, so it can get a bit chilly, especially during this time of the year. - There's a carpet at the foot of the bed, which does not seem to be very clean.

The room was lovely and modern, very spacious for four people. The bathroom was nice and equipped with plenty of towels for our group. There was lovely complementary snacks and water left for us on our arrival which was very well received by the group. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Breakfast is included and it was one of the nicest breakfast I’ve ever had! Very high quality food, would definitely come back if I was in the area
Our room was situated at the front of the building which is on a street, there was a bit of noise on the street in the morning but that cannot be helped by the hosts!

Everything. The whole apartment was stunning. Photos don’t do it justice. We stayed in the abbey suite. Amazing wooden flooring, good spacious well laid out property. Beds are the most comfortable I’ve every slept in while travelling. Friendly staff, was met and helped in the road by Scott as he saw us making our way round. Food was amazing, everything from the breakfast, the cakes and the pizza in their sister restaurant. Well placed in small village, easy to get to Galway. Lovely medieval walks with well preserved sites.

Elegant apartment named abbey row right above the main restaurant. Rooms were nice, living room was very comfortable and kitchen was fully equipped. Since we had our preschooler and toddler we needed the extra space and a kitchen and it was perfect. Staff was exceptional. Check in and check out were as easy as it gets, just walk into the restaurant and they give you the key and drop it off when you leave. The food was also delicious. We also loved athenry as our base to visit the surrounding areas
Wi-Fi was pretty bad during our three day stay. And did not like the trash bag that was left in front of our door between second and third day.
