The rooms are spacious, high ceilings, lovely bed, good air con. Lovely small balcony. The breakfast is very good and the little courtyard setting is idyllic for breakfast. There is always someone at reception too. I did see a review saying coffee wasn't great but we loved it. The choice at the breakfast buffet will suit all. We had teenagers with us too. The staff are lovely though, a real family feel to the stay. There are lovely little swimming spots around Syracuse and we tried all of them! The town is truly beautiful.

I suppose I understand now that this may be common, but this is effectively a bed and breakfast. I would not title it a 'hotel'. There is no other facilities, no bar, brollies out the front never open and nobody is invited to sit down there. There is no lunch or dinner services, no all day coffee etc. There is a plenty in the town so I suppose it does not matter though. It's just not what I would call a 'hotel'. At night when you return, someone unlocks the door and you can go to your room. It's also looking a bit tired, the first thing you see on entering is cracked paint and broken kick lighting on the staircase. It needs some love and attention but overall its still quite good and well located with good staff.

The location was terrific, midway between Ortigia and the train station. The bed was comfortable as were the pillows. We enjoyed the opportunity to indulge in a spa bath.

There were three of us, one couple (same names) and a single, the receptionist asked who was in the double and we assumed that was the couples room. Later we realized our single friends room was twice the size of ours - why ask? Also, the first keys he gave us were to the wrong room, it was clearly occupied when we opened the door - thankfully nobody was in there (and for them that we are honest people). He did recommend a restaurant that was fabulous though, for which we are grateful (Bazan).

The hotel was excellent. We decided not to stay on Ortigia itself but the hotel was a x5 minute walk to the island & situated in a very nice part of Siracusa. The walk from the train station to the hotel with our luggage was 10-15 minutes, very easy. Our quadruple room was spacious with comfortable beds & excellent air-conditioning. Everything is spotlessly clean. The fresh complimentary lemon granita in the lounge area is very welcome & the hotel has a lovely lobby & outside courtyard, as well as an outside seating area in front of the entrance. We were particularly impressed with the breakfast & it being served from 7.00am-10.30am made it relaxing & enjoyable. You can eat inside or outside in the courtyard, lovely. The selection of food is excellent with bacon, scrambled eggs, cold meats being continuously refreshed. Our breakfast coffees were made on demand, no vending machines. There is fresh fruit, cereals, toast, pastries...a very generous selection with plenty of friendly & welcoming staff on hand to assist. I would highly recommend the hotel.....the staff are professional & friendly and for us, being near but not in Ortigia, with its many tourists, was ideal.

The location was perfect - 10 minute walk into Ortigia, cafes and restaurants on our doorstep. Charming helpful staff, lovely spacious room. The best gratis granita! We didn’t want to leave.

We did have a problem with a leaking shower. However we were offered another room, but were so happy with our room, decided to stay and the staff immediately sent maintenance to deal with it. There is no hotel parking so street parking can require patience.

Location of the hotel is perfect, a few minutes away from Ortigia island. The interbus station is also 7-8 minutes by walking. There are plenty of shops and restaurants around the hotel. Staff was very polite and helpful. We arrived early in the morning and they provided us with complimentary early check-in as our room was ready. Breakfast is very nice as well. Great variety of pastries, fruits, cheeses and Italian charcuterie.

Lovely hotel halfway between Siracusa Station and Ortigia Island, less than ten minutes walk from both. Staff friendly and helpful, rooms big (we were upgraded) and airy, bathrooms excellent. Breakfast superb, in a spacious undercroft.

Hotel is in the restaurant and bar area of Siracusa, and on one of the bigger roads to the Ortigia area, which are lively on Fri and Sat nights: corner rooms can therefore be a bit noisy at those times.

On arrival we were upgraded into a very comfortable corner suite with sitting area and spacious bedroom. The hotel is an older building that has been carefully maintained and is well decorated. It’s on the “mainland” part of Siracusa, not the island of Ortigia. There are several good, small restaurants nearby.

Breakfast is disappointing for a 4star hotel. Canned pineapple and peaches don’t impress when equivalent hotels are offering freshly prepared melon/ pineapple/ watermelon. Even a prepared salad of fresh oranges with mint would be a zero food miles possibility.

hotel is in a historical building located in the city near Ortigia. not sure how far from the train station but we have our own vehicle. the hotel staff told us that there were parking lots near by but we were lucky to find a parking space on the street. we walked into Ortigia and it took us only a few minutes. there were shops nearby and restaurants and we also found a laundry which was convenient. breakfast was served in the hotel and it was good and with enough choices. hotel staff are friendly and helpful. good stay.

Grande Albergo Alfeo has great location - lot of popular tourist attractions are in walking distance (Ortigia island, Neapolis Archaeological park) and great choice of dining facilities. If you arrived here by car - there are great parking place (Parling Syracusa 15eiro / 24h) located just in 5 min walking distance. If you are interested in 'Hop on - hop off" excursions - starting piont is located same direction as Syracusa Parking, very close to hotel. Staff - very proffesional, heplful and polite. Always ready to help. Room was spacy. Comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet was really good for Sicily - continental breakfast, not only italian style breakfast. Great choice for nice stay!

We arrived early and our room was ready! The location is excellent, just a short walk from the island of Ortigia. The building is impressive and the rooms are spacious. Housekeeping is excellent

Our bathroom especially the bath/ shower seemed a little tired. The outdoor seating area , in font of the hotel, could have been more appealing: the plants needed to be replaced or watered and the umbrellas could have been used to give a little shade.
