We found the hotel to be extremely charming, retaining its family feel. The great location meant access to the three islands was convenient and the gentle 20 minute walk in to town along the panoramic walkway beside the lake a welcome chance to take in the beautiful surroundings. There are several nice bars on the way in to Stresa and a plentiful choice of restaurants to choose from. A room with a view of the lake is worth taking advantage of. The barman is a superb host and we took advantage of a pre-dinner cocktail (with complimentary appetisers) each evening during our stay.

The shower was a little on the small side but not a major issue given the location and charm of the hotel together with its staff.

Beautiful family-run hotel, all modern facilities with old-fashioned charm. Quiet location approx 20 minute walk along the promenade to the main town centre with cafes, shops and restaurants. It was very clean and staff were friendly and courteous. Looks like they are doing up the roof terrace, building a bar area up there, which will be nice bonus in future. At present you can take a drink up and watch the sun go down over the lake which was lovely. Gorgeous views over the lake from our rooms and lovely terrace. Pool was quiet and clean, and set in gorgeous gardens. Such a relaxing break.

We loved this hotel and our whole stay exceeded expectations. We knew from other reviews that it’s a 15-25 min walk to town (depending which end you want to eat, and how quickly you can walk) so I can’t say I didn’t like it as we knew in advance, and it was less busy /noisy perhaps for being further out, but it’s something to consider if you have any mobility issues or struggle in the heat, as we did in the recent heatwave! There are ferries that can take you in to town if you want to go early evening but none run later on to take you back.

Fabulous location within 20 mins walk of central Stresa, with great views of the lake and islands from the upgraded rooms (well worth paying for these exceptional views). Charming individual and comfortable hotel with character, much artwork and lots of relaxation space. Friendly staff and good buffet breakfast in the spacious and airy dining room. Sensibly priced comfortable hotel, with some individuality - recommended.

Not much to say here. Perhaps the dinner options could be a little more adventurous in the main dining room but it was decent simple fare for a sensible price if you want to eat in on occasion.

Beautifully decorated, clean older hotel. Our room was on the fourth floor and overlooked the Lake and Isola Bella. The balcony was large, comfortable and private. Lovely hotel. The location provides great views, but it is a 20 minute walk into the town of Stresa. That is fine for most, but if you have any walking restrictions it is a little difficult. The walk along the lake is beautiful though and you can catch a ferry at end of the road. Very close. So for most I would say location is very good.

Most was great. Staff was nice, but would have liked more information from front desk about the area and how to get around on bus, etc.

The staff were old school, very professional and seem to love their job . The hotel has character and is very welcoming and well presented. Beautiful flowers in the garden and freshly cut flowers in the hotel everywhere. Housekeeping staff are excellent and our room was immaculate! Thank you! The pool area and gardens are very relaxing to sit around. It is a lovely change to see the family that actually own the hotel also live there and to see how much they care and they should be very proud as it is beautiful.

The quality of the restaurant food was very poor , they needed to renew the whole menu to accommodate today's dinners. Sorry, the hotel and staff are amazing, but someone needs to create a daily menu 3 great starters 3 great main courses and a couple of good dessert. Who ever arranges the flowers should arrange the food with the same attention to detail, plus they need to taste the food as if they were the customer. I have 45 years experience in the catering industry this can be resolved easily with someone with a bit of passion. Please if you are thinking of coming to this hotel, please do as it's wonderful and I am sure they will improve the menu.

The hotel is located just a few minutes’ walk from the port terminal providing access to the Borromean Islands. Another terminal is in Stresa, about a 20-minute walk along the scenic lakeside promenade (assuming you are visiting primarily for the Borromean Islands). The room is very nice, featuring a balcony with a table and two chairs. It also includes a refrigerator. The bathroom is fully equipped with all necessary toiletries. Breakfast is varied, delicious, and includes freshly prepared coffee of your choice. You can also reserve dinner if you wish. Free parking is available directly in front of the hotel. The staff — from receptionists to bartenders and waiters — are very helpful and friendly.

A kettle in the room would be a nice touch.

Large bedroom and very large balconies in first floor front facing rooms. Super king bed was very comfortable. Staff were very efficient and very cheerful. Set menu dinner was fine and at a reasonable price. Breakfast was extensive. Garden had plenty of places to sit, front and back. Tree lined side road led to the lake and ferry was just there if for a slightly reduced service than Stresa itself. But Stresa town was only a 15 mins walk down the lake; a promenade that was well lit at night.

Pool could have been heated; it was absolutely freezing but we swam in it anyway. We would have preferred a separate shower rather than a shower over a bath

Traditional Italian feel. Reception areas were comfortable and nicely furnished. Lovely art work on the walls. Beautiful view of the lake and Borromean Islands from our 4th floor balcony and also from the 5th floor terrace. Good buffet breakfast. Lovely 20 minute walk into Stresa centre via a beautiful lake side promenade. Boat trips to the Borromean Islands are available from this starting point.

We were on a bed and breakfast basis but did opt to have an evening meal at the hotel on a few occasions. Unfortunately, we found the quality and choice of the main courses disappointing. There are plenty of places to eat at in the town centre.

it’s our second time in Stresa and my mom and i decided to come back to Hotel Royal, since a year ago we found it very pleasant. the entire staff confirmed our idea: everybody was helpful, professional, polite, joyful and friendly. it’s brilliant, everything is perfect. the rooms are clean and comfortable and most of them, or all of them, have a balcony or a terrace. i have to mention the spectacular breakfast that you have included staying here: it’s a continental one, you can have salty food, cakes, pies, fruits, yogurts, brioches, local jam, etc. Hotel Royal has a strategic position cause it’s near the dock where you can book a trip to visit the three islands. in case you want to relax at the hotel you can enjoy the pool, always clean and refreshing. in addition, there’s also a bar area where you can have an happy hour (we want to thank Mariella for being so kind and welcoming, she prepared very good cocktails for us). i want to thank again the entire staff for being the best, we will be back for sure!
