The hotel has a really cute "throwback" feel, and is right on the lake. Our room was spacious, larger than most of what we experienced elsewhere in Japan. The staff was extremely helpful and they shuttled us to the station. Easy walk to nearby restaurants, though we didn't get out a ton.

No complaints, but next time we go hopefully the public bath will no longer be under construction so we can try that! I will say that it's a quiet area, so just make sure that's what you're looking for. The shuttle doesn't run 24-7, obviously, so just make sure that if you're traveling at an inconvenient time you're up for a 10 minute walk to/from the train station through the neighborhood.

The room was comfortable and clean and entirely adequate for our needs. The facility is a bit "aged" but well kept. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Overall impression was good. I would recommend this to other travelers not in need of extreme luxury.

The facility is a bit distant from the station and restaurants etc. This is not a problem for young folks who can walk, but a bit difficult for those with mobility challenges. Transportation by bus is available but not convenient.

April 2025

We stayed at Kawaguchiko Hotel for two nights this April and really liked it. We picked the Japanese-style tatami room and it was spacious and the futon was comfortable. Our room faced Lake Kawaguchi directly and there was even a side window with a view of Mt. Fuji. We also had the breakfast and it was a hearty and healthy meal. They served shabu shabu with thin slices of beef and soft tofu, plus fish, salad, egg, tomato, cheese, rice, more beef, green tea, and fresh fruits. You just need to let the front desk know your preferred time, 7:30, 8:00, or 8:30. The hotel is around 16-min walk from the train station. But they have a free shuttle to and from the station running from 8 to 10am every 30 minutes. On our last day, we had to catch a 7am train and it was cold so I asked if there was any chance of a shuttle earlier. The younger staff looked unsure but then an older gentleman (I believe his name is Riyoshita-san) said yes, he’d take us. Sure enough, he was there early the next morning, drove us to the station and even offered to take our photo because Mt. Fuji was perfectly clear that day. It was such a sweet gesture and really made our morning. Highly recommend this hotel. It was peaceful, the food was great, and the service (especially Riyoshita-san, thank you!) really went above and beyond.

Our stay was amazing. The onsen was perfect and exactly what was needed after sumiting Fuji. The staff greeted us in the parking lot, helped carry our bags, and gave us a tour of the hotel. We did the traditional Japanese room and comfortably fit four adults on the futons. We traveled fairly light though as what we had we had to take on the mountain with us, it may be snug if you have a lot of bags. They had complimentary ice, coffee, and tea. Due to the late night and early morning I did not reserve breakfast or dinner, but the pictures looked appetizing. Great wifi.

I loved the Japanese-style room, it was a fab experience and the futons were super comfy. We had a view of Mt Fuji from our room, which was a real highlight. The staff were so kind and friendly, especially in the restaurant / during breakfast - breakfast itself was a wonderful experience, and they really went above and beyond to make sure we had plenty to eat, even though we are vegetarian. I loved relaxing in the onsen. The location was really convenient for views of and walks around the lake, getting to/from the train station (especially with the hotel shuttle!) and jumping on the local tour buses to get to hiking trails and other nature-based tourism hotspots in the five lakes area.

The hotel is a bit old and run down - the interior (especially carpets!) could do with a bit of a spruce up to make it feel lighter and more modern.

This hotel has the old Japanese charm. You can tell that there is history in the architecture. The staff are very nice and the pickup service provided from the station is good for bringing larger luggage. We especially enjoyed the indoor onsen which wasn’t very busy and had a view of Mt Fuji. The traditional breakfast provided is also amazing and the ladies who served us had amazing attitudes.

The cottage is in need of some refurbishment. It was comfortable with modern bathrooms but the sleeping areas, lounge and kitchen are a bit dated and more worn. For the price we paid, it was still good value.

Pros: lakeside hotel. You just walk across the street to get to the lake. It's also about a 5 minute walk from the bridge to cross the lake. Once you cross the lake you could see both the lake and Fuji together. It's beautiful. The onsen has a large warm pool. The men's side has both views of mount Fuji and the lake. This is definitely the best thing about the hotel. The staff is very nice and polite. Free coffee in the morning. They all speak enough English. They have a lot of amenities but they're all very modest, nothing fancy. The hotel is affordable. Cons: they are very strict about check in time. The location is quite a walk from the main area and main public transport station. But they offer free shuttle rides to and from the hotel. The gym is tiny. Just free weights up to 10kg, a treadmill, a bike, some jump ropes. Definitely a great place to stay. Highly recommend it!

It’s like you’ve stepped back into time. It feels like a movie set. It’s definitely an older establishment, they’re updating things. The bathroom was modern. We had amazing breakfasts, lots of little nice touches. Like coffee in the lounge. The staff and the view are amazing.

It’s definitely older, but you can see they’re updating things. They only give you one towel and you need to carry it back and forth to the spa area. I need two when my hair is wet. Why are there no extra towel by the spa?

Oh wow, we were so happy we stayed here. I think we must have had the best room in the hotel which was a corner large tatami room with both lake and Mount Fuji views. So comfortable and just stunning views we could have stayed here for ages and would love to go back. The breakfast was traditional and served by the most charming ladies. The reception staff were very obliging. The hotel is a little old and shabby in places but that is because it is original and has history - don't come if you're expecting modern lux. Thank you for our wonderful stay.

The Onsen was very enjoyable but only the men's was overlooking Mount Fuji so the description was a bit wrong there. The lady's Onsen window was clouded because from the road it would be easy to have a good view of the naked women I'm guessing!

The staff was super helpful and friendly. We felt like well taken care of. The location was superb with the lake right in front and just 15min walk to the main train station. There is also a free shuttle if needed. Also enjoyed the view from the observatory. Hotel also offers luggage delivery service, which was handy since we wanted to travel light to our next destination. Room was spacious and had a lovely view of the lake. The bathrooms were modern and newly renovated. Loved the history of the place and the charme and atmosphere which comes with it.

Some parts of the hotel were a little bit outdated and just needed a little slap of fresh paint.
