The location was excellent.

The room design makes it very difficult to get in and out of the bed and there is not really any space to put 2 x mid sized suitcases. However, the bed was comfortable once you were in it.

The location was outstanding. Once you hit the streets, you are surrounded by shops, food, and transportation options. We did not try the hotel breakfast, as the food all around the hotel has less expensive options.

The living space was small and I had to crawl in and out of the bed which fit across the entire wall. More space to hang clothes would have been nice, but we managed just fine.

The location was amazing (close to everything) and the daily room service was much appreciated

The rooms were small and the hotel was unfortunately not able to accommodate for two single beds which made the sharing of a small double bed between two family members difficult. We also had a difficult experience with the front staff when trying to ask them to make a restaurant reservation booking - after trying to give multiple card details we were refused because none of them were a physical card and even when we were able to source one, after all that effort, hotel had not even checked if a phone booking was possible and we didn’t end up being able to reserve. At check in, we really did not like the attitude that we would be fined if we even checked out a minute late. Of course we understand that there are check out policies but it was quite an aggressive welcome.

The location is perfect! There are buses a five minute walk away to all corners of Kyoto. You can also walk to Kiyomizudera, Gion, and Nishiki Market. These are always staples on our Kyoto trip so we were so excited to be able to walk around and experience those areas. While Gion is very crowded, The Granbell never feels frantic - it is a very quiet street with great staff and amazing food. Highly recommend the breakfast as it is one of the best ways to start your day with a delicious mix of Japanese food and Western food. My favorite part of staying at the Granbell is using the public bath at the end of the day. It is the perfect way to relax and get your feet back under you after walking around Kyoto. It is not often crowded, as mainly foreigners stay here, which means many of the days you have it all to yourself - a great addition to a great hotel.

The laundry room is very small - there are only two machines and is very inconvenient to do laundry in. I recommend going to the coin laundry places that are recommended instead of using the basement machines.

The location is great! So many of the top temples are withing walking distance as well as the scenic streets Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka as well as easy subway access to Fushini inari. Also great restaurant choices abound. Rooms were comfortable and reception area offers free coffee or tea and cold water.

When we booked there wasn't a deal for the breakfast and since we don't eat big breakfasts we didn't feel the cost was worth paying for individually, but I'm sure it would have been good. We found it easy to buy pastries and yogurt at convenience store for our breakfast.

The location of this charming hotel was superb. Intimate feel with Beautiful decor with Japanese feel, yet all the modern touches necessary. Lounge/lobby was wonderful to hang out in, breakfasts absolutely excellent. Hot pool/bath was a huge bonus. Staff lovely!

Only drawback was the king-sized room (very small) offers almost no space to put your luggage, no surface space to place your things. Had to crawl over each other in room to get anything, get ready, etc. Hanging bars for clothes minimal and not very functional. It would be helpful if they at least added more hooks on the wall for clothes, backpacks, hats. Maybe a double room is better?

The first floor provides free snacks, coffee (available 24 hours), and drinking water; there is also a microwave for heating bento (Japan's bento culture is very famous and definitely worth experiencing). B1 provides free hot springs, with separate areas for men and women, so there's no need to worry about awkwardness. Women are provided with a security key to access the women's hot spring. The room has an extra-large bed, super comfortable, and very soundproof (when checking in, there was construction across the hotel, but no noise could be heard inside the guest room). It is very close to attractions, and there is a place downstairs to rent kimonos for photos.

The room is relatively compact, making it difficult to open two suitcases (20-23 inches), but an additional hour for check-out is provided (check-out at 12 o'clock), allowing more time for packing.

Excellent location. You are in old town near all Gion attractions - temples, shrines, Nishiki market, Osaka line train is 5 minutes walk, all restaurants and bars within a few minutes walk, the quiet streets of geisha houses are a few blocks away. Good breakfast. Nice public onsen ( shallow pool with hot water). Bathrooms are decent for Japan standards. The only complain would be very small rooms, no space for larger suitcases and no closet space. It is a normal situation for smaller Japanese hotels, so pack lightly!

not enough space in the bathroom for toiletries and not enough shelves in the room. But it would not stop us from staying in this hotel again, since location and breakfast were excellent.

The location was incredible. So central to underground, shopping, restaurants, temples and right in the middle of the Geisha district. Great facilities in the foyer for guests to get as needed. Beautiful rooms. Very quiet, even though right about the street. Beautiful rooms. Great fours. Lovely breakfasts.

Everything we great except would prefer 2 pillows per person. And would also prefer a top sheets on the beds as it was hot in the night with just duvets and the Aircon could not be turned down any further. Towels could be bigger. And 2 towels per day in summer (because it’s so hot, and also to allow a dry towel each for the onsen) would have been great.

Fabulous location in Gion. Staff generally helpful and friendly. Onsen is lovely. Breakfast buffet is excellent with a variety of food options.

Room was very small and while this was not unexpected, there was very little space for luggage (we ended up storing bags in the shower recess and using the onsen facilities for washing and showering). The mattress on the bed was awful (sagging in the middle), and the small lounge was very uncomfortable. These are small things, but for the price paid to stay here, I expected better.
