The staff couldn’t do enough to help us. Always smiling, greeted us when we left for the day and welcomed us every time we returned. The room was stylish, beds super comfy, nice layout, great to have Japanese bath and shower in a wet room.

The laundry was very busy - sometimes had to wait to use the washing machine and dryers. The dryers were so slow - took at least 3 cycles of 30 mins to get dry. The air conditioning units were a bit loud and there were a few small issues in the room. As soon as we raised them with the staff they dealt with them immediately though. They got maintenance to come within 3 hrs of me complaining about the noisy air conditioning unit and it was much quieter after they cleaned the filter. Loud noise but expect that in such a central location.

The hotel was clean and easily accessible from the train/ metro station. Having stayed at Mimaru Osaka previously, the facilities were similar. Our luggage transferred from Osaka arrived within 24 hours. Ueno is a good place if you want to explore the east side of Tokyo. I also used the Kurogo luggage transfer to arrange for some suitcases to be sent to the airport and they kept them for a few days as we moved to the other side of Tokyo. The one day delivery service was very useful as well.

The only thing I did not like was the dryers at the laundromat. Items took a very long time to dry and even after 1 hour in the dryer, I still had to hang the clothes in the bathroom.

Mimaru East is a good option for families, the room is spacious enough and the bunk beds are great for kids. The room was very clean and the beds and pillows comfortable. The service is excellent.

The immediate location around the hotel is pretty lacking in vibe or dining options. It is a 5 min walk to the JR line station but more like a 20min walk to the Skyliner station. Ueno itself is a fantastic area to stay in, the markets are an amazing mix of street food, vintage style American clothing and footwear and the access to museums in Ueno Park is excellent. I think the cost of this accomodation is unreasonably high for what you get, they know they have a captive market with families and they charge a lot for it.

Lovely staff who were very helpful. The room we rented was very well set up for a family of 4 (two adults and two teenagers). The room had a large wardrobe that we were able to hang clothes in and also store our suitcases so we were not tripping over them. We appreciated the kitchenette facilities, fridge and dining table. Great location, very close to Ueno station made getting around Tokyo and to the airport easy and also walking distance to Asakusa, Kitchen Street and some great local restaurants.

There are no business facilities at this hotel which we would have appreciated as my husband was having early morning work video calls while we were on holiday. He had to go and find a very early opening cafe to facilitate this as it was not possible to do with 3 sleeping people in our room. It would be great if there was a small business centre / facility at the hotel to enable calls or even some seating downstairs near reception where this could be done. Also the airconditioning did not seem to have a quiet mode while sleeping.

Pokémon room was a surprise for the kids, they loved the decor! Staff were friendly and helpful. Not sure if Japanese washlet toilets are the norm in all hotels in Japan, but our bathroom had them and adds to the experience of travelling in Japan. Property had 3 washing machines and 3 dryers available for guests to use on the ground level (coin operated), and open 24 hours. Walking distance to Ueno metro station and Ueno station, about 10-15 min walk.

Not big issues, our bathroom could be better ventilated as it gets a bit steamy and low and high speed seemed the same, but the room did dry in the end. Also, the laundry dryer takes a bit long to dry the clothes, so don’t overload. Having the door to the laundry room opened did help, maybe have a sign to advise to keep the door open.

Great rooms with a well thought out layout. Clean and well maintained according to the schedule handed out. So close to the iriya exit of Ueno station. Great staff who were always polite and helpful.

Terrible drier. Just wouldn't dry. This wasn't a problem of me overloading the drier. I split a 4kg load into three machines. After 1.5 hours, I gave up and went to the closest laundromat. It was done in 30 minutes.

Staff were amazing, very accomodating with any request. The apartment was perfect for our family of 4. Kids loved having bunk beds. Shower room was huge and having a separate toilet was great too. Heaps of hanging space for clothes and we had 2 large suitcases that fitted easily below the hanging clothes. Kitchenette was great for preparing snacks for kids, good size fridge and freezer. Easy 5 minute walk to Ueno station. Supermarket and convenience stores all within 5 minute walk from the hotel. We used the hotels laundry, never had to wait for a machine…which meant we didn’t have to pack a lot of clothes so had more room for souvenirs. Staff helped us with luggage transfer (very reasonable price) to our last destination so we only had to take one suitcase with us to Kyoto. We are looking forward to our stay at Mimaru in Kyoto.

Very large room! A 5 min walk to the ueno trains. The fridge is big like a normal sized fridge, which is rare for a hotel! Plenty of utensil and plates, even has a microwave. There are outlets in the middle of the beds so no worries about using the phone while charging in bed! Not my favourite location to stay in but as far as a convenient hotel with a kitchen near Ueno station, this serves that purpose.

The aircon seemed to have a mind of its own, turning itself off and on randomly so we’d wake up very hot throughout the night. The TV also couldn’t get any channels - not a big issue as we just watched videos on our phone. The kettle takes awfully long to boil water! No oil or seasonings are provided. And no free water is provided by the hotel which was a little disappointing. They did have free tea bags and instant coffee at the lobby though! The location isn’t as close to the heart of ueno as I had hoped. It’s actually on the complete opposite end of the ueno station which has all the parks and restaurants stuff. This is my 3rd time in Tokyo, and honestly I recommend Asakusa over Ueno for a stay!

Amazingly clean and modern facility near Ueno station. Staff was super friendly and helpful. It was nice to have the coin laundry available for use. It was a great place for us to recharge during our trip in Tokyo.

I guess you could say the room could have been bigger.. but it's Tokyo, so by that standard we were very comfortable in the room. Bathroom area outside the shower could have been a bit bigger. Also the walk to Ueno station is not quite as close as it seems due to where the entrances of Ueno station are located.

The bed is very comfortable. We sleep very well in the trip. The distance from JR south exit is quite far, but very close to the Iriyaguchi (入谷口).

We can hear some noise from the street, but still acceptable. The shower head is heavy and the shape is a bit not comfortable. The check out time is 11:00 and the hotel is quite strict on this, staff remined us it would need to pay if we check out late for more than 20 minutes.
