the room was cozy and liked the traditional experience. location was convenient to train stations. although we didn't get a chance to have breakfast we enjoyed our stay especially the onsen experience.
onsen reservations. two guests walked in when we were inside. there should be a sheet where guests fill it out and book a 1hr reservation or so and provide room number just in case they are taking forever.

This is a great ryokan to stay that's right in the center of Asakusa tourist area, suprisingly quiet despite the location and just a few minutes walk from the hub-bub of Senso-Ji and its environs. The place has a lovely vibe even though they've been operating for 80 years, you could tell they take great effort in maintaining it well. The staff's extremely lovely and professional, very helpful. The baths on 6th floor look wonderful (though we didn't have the time to enjoy it and just took a peek). Also, you can understand the cultural tidbits of your room and Japanese practices in an easy-to-read pamphlet and the information guide in your room, nice touch! Recommend the non-Western rooms if you can afford it.
It's a little on the pricey end (especially with no breakfast), but for the convenience and the fact that you get a solid Japanese feel and experience, I think it could be well worth it (dress in the yukata they provide you, or rent a full-on kimono, and those pictures inside the room pay for your money's worth. With the bedding (for two guests) laid out on the tatami, you have less space than what the pictures show (we got the Deluxe room) but still spacious enough considering it's Tokyo. Check-out time is also on the early side since you can only check in after 3 p.m., I wish they could have allowed check-out at 11 a.m.

It’s an amazing experience in a ryokan. Fantastic and kind stuff, spacious room with a tiny cute decorated balcony overlooking the street. Location couldn’t be better, just behind the corner from Nakamise-dori market street and Senso-ji temple. Great for exploring in early morning before it gets full of crowds. The onsen with a view on Tokyo Skytree and another on the pagoda couldn’t be better. They switch sides for men and woman so you can explore both views. Asakusa area became one of our favourite also thanks to the ryokan.
Nothing really to complain, maybe only steamy window in the cold weather in the onsen, so the view from the window was a bit challenging. But you just accept it.

Had heard specifically about this place from a number of different sources, including the Abroad in Japan YouTube channel. Honest review: great across the board. Location is insane. You're equidistant between Senso-ji and Kaminarimon Gate. Couldn't ask for more. Not only were the proprietors incredibly accommodating, but their kaiseki breakfasts were amazing. Just don't be late - they were kind enough to call my room with ten minutes to spare on my last day. Learn some rudimentary Japanese and they will show their appreciation with a genuineness I didn't find anywhere else in Tokyo. The rooms are only a touch out of step with time, with some of the furnishings noticeably showing their age - not in an unkempt way or anything, just a bit outdated. WiFi was perfectly serviceable, though. If you end up staying in a Japanese-style room, be mindful of how hard the floor will be under the futon, even with the tatami. Night one was a tad uncomfortable, but I was used to it by night two. Biggest win by far was the onsen. Whilst it probably isn't a true spring, it definitely does the job. Helpfully, since the entire place is small, you'll have a good chance of having an entire bath to yourself. The left-hand one was undergoing repairs whilat I was there, but the right-hand one was nevertheless excellent.

I know I have to stay in ryokan rather than hotel. and this place, is perfect. the location is literally in the asakusa shopping district around the temple so that's really convenient. altough sometimes for me I kind of overstimulated by the crowd but this ryokan in the quieter side. The staff is very helpful, especially when I need to send my luggage to the airport, they partnered with JAL services for same day luggage service. everything went well. The room is clean, it's kinda small but enough. the public bath is to die for. 2 nights in a row I got Tokyo Skytree view which is beautiful. they also have cute tiny garden in the rooftop with the same view. totally breathtaking, worth the money, definitely will come here again.

A wide choice of free beverages, hot and cold ( including a delicious iced Shizuoka green tea, at least when it’s the hot season) and a good selection of snacks is proposed in the lobby. The ryokan is exceptionally well situated, very close from the bustling Asakusa and Senso-Ji area but in a calm street.
I can’t thinking of anything to improve, the ryokan Shigetsu is a beautiful place and is run by people who are very welcoming and always ready to help you in any way they can. They are very professional and the whole team speaks English, which is really convenient for foreign tourists.

the location of the ryokan was very close to the station and to street vendors which was very convenient. the room was also bigger than I expected which was good!
the male receptionist was quite rude which made asking him for help on little matters quite uncomfortable.

The location is exceptional, just off of the main shopping road towards the temple, lots of positive energy and fun things to do. The staff are really fun and considerate. I have read other reviews knocking the manner of the team here, complaining that they don't speak English, well this is Japan. Learning to speak some basic Japanese goes a long way here. The senior gentleman is like an old-school Basil Fawlty and really fun in a strange off the cuff way. We paid extra for breakfast which was traditional and delicious. There is a combination code to easily enter the hotel after hours. The room had soft and comfy futons and the onsen was really relaxing.
There was nothing that we didn't like about this experience.

Love love love this ryokan that’s stone throw away from Nakamise and Denboin street! The hospitality is top notched! The impressive staff explained to me everything and kindly showed me my traditional style room. There are some snacks and drinks in the lobby area and the “onsen like” experience were so cool. Note that it’s not mineral hot springs water but boiled tap water but it was still rejuvenating and they do switch the baths and I experienced bathing with the view of Tokyo Sky tree and the Sensoji on different occasions. Although, it’s a public bath, 2-3 persons can be accommodated at the same time and mostly guests / strangers will not care to join once the sign says its being used so I had the bath to myself on those two occasions, or I was just lucky. The futon was very comfortable and everything was so clean and pristine! I would definitely stay here again when I come back in Asakusa

Wow what a gem in Asakusa! The location couldn't have been any better! Senso-ji is literally on your doorstep. It"s close to the station, don quijote and uni qlo for a quick shop. Asakusa Edo Monja restaurant across the street is a must. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room was wonderful, you knew you were in Japan! Enough space for the 2 of us, lovely little balcony and the bathroom was clean, modern with a fantastic shower. Good communication and directions from Asakusa Shigetsu made finding the ryokan easy. Lifts at the station meant we could avoid the stairs with heavy bags. Used our suica card to visit Harajuku, Shibuya and Ueno. It was a pass for us for Harajuku, too many sad animal cafes. Ueno was fab! We really enjoyed visiting there. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend.
Personally we found the pillows uncomfortable but everything else was perfect 😊 If you are a light sleeper, eyemask and ear plugs would be advised due to busy, but happy vibe location.
