This was my second time staying at Ama-La, because I loved it so much the first time. Ama-La is located in a fantastic location in Thamel. It is easy walking distance to exchange money, get any last minute trekking items, and a multitude of restaurants and grocery stores. The staff at Ama-La are amazing. They are all so friendly and welcoming, and will help you with anything you need. Ram, the Manager, is so lovely and really looked out for me following my hospital stay due to altitude sickness on the trek. I was able to book and stay additional nights at the hotel last minute, and the hotel helped me organise a taxi back to the hospital for a further appointment. Ama-La has an amazing rooftop which is perfect for a morning coffee, to read your book, or have an afternoon beer. On a clear day you can even see the mountains! Thamel can be a busy location, but Ama-La gives you a sense of peace and quiet. It is a fantastic place to stay pre and post trek. I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

The staff and manager were extremely nice and helpful. The room which had been reserved for us was nice but it had some smoke smell, despite being a non-smoking room. When we complained about it, it was immediately agreed and a solution was looked for in order to accommodate us. We were upgraded to a very nice room, even larger than the first one. The hotel is located at the limit of Thamel. Although in a very busy area, it is very quite thanks to being at the end of a small alley. The manager also gave us a lot advice about our travel, and they agreed to keep our luggage while we are travelling out of Kathmandu. I strongly recommend this hotel.

I felt incredibly comfortable at the hotel and enjoyed my stay so much that I decided to extend it by two additional days. The staff was exceptionally friendly, always attentive, and welcoming. I had many memorable moments with the hotel manager, who was not only professional but also genuinely warm and approachable, took the time to sit at my table and chat. The hotel’s rooftop quickly became one of my favorite spots. I spent a lot of time there, sitzing in the sun, reading a book. The view from the rooftop was stunning. The location of the hotel is also very good. My room was clean, well-maintained, and even equippe a hairdryer. A special thank you also goes to the receptionist Bandana Sapkota, who was very, very friendly and kind.

We were very pleased with this hotel. I don't think you could find a better value. It exceeded our expectations for the price. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. The location was wonderful - right in the heart of Thamel, yet tucked away enough that it was quiet in the room. The room was plenty spacious and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was basic, but better than most 3-star hotels in the U.S. - there were boiled eggs and other warm food options. It would have been even better up on the rooftop terrace, which is open in the warmer months. We still went up there and enjoyed the views of the city from this quiet and quaint spot.

We liked everything about this hotel, however one thing to be aware of is that the shower is not separate from the sink/toilet area in the bathroom. This was a surprise to us and different from what we are used to, but it turned out not to be a negative - the water was plenty warm and there was good water pressure. Just make sure to close the toilet lid before you shower. My husband did not :-).

The staff were extremely helpful with making sure our stay was comfortable and they also offer advice for Kathmandu and onward travel. The location is great on the Main Street and near restaurants, shops and a mini market for water etc, the view from the rooftop is one of the best and they serve food and drinks. Room was spotless, comfortable and big. Shower facilities worked brilliantly with hot and cold water. If it’s your first time in Kathmandu this would be the perfect place to stay, if not first time then stay anyway, we stayed in another hotel our previous time and it did not compare to this. If we come again we will stay here. Thank you to all staff :-)!

Very pleased with our stay at Hotel Ama-la. Breakfast was delicious and in house coffee was above my expectations (for an Australian coffee lover). The location was fantastic down a quiet alley but very close to the heart of Thamel area. The room was comfortable and had beautiful warm lighting, double glazed windows and very warm. It was also nice and quiet which was good because we had a baby with us. I would also say it was very safe for young kids, baby and toddler could roam around the room with no problems of sharp edges or other dangers. Bed was super comfortable and warm. Hot water also very luxurious!! There is a beautiful rooftop as well where you can see all of the city and enjoy a drink, it’s also safe for kids. The staff were extremely polite and went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They are very kind and trustworthy, the hotel is owned by a Tibetan family who were very hospitable to us and sweet to the kids. Very clean very comfortable stay I am very happy with our stay and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a great stay in Kathmandu!!!
