We had enjoyed a previous stay at The Pier Lodge so much that we were delighted to find we could stay once more before flying to the North Island after a couple of weeks in the South Island. It was so pleasant returning to a place at which we'd previously been made so welcome. If we need to stay in Christchurch again, this will be our first choice! When it was time to make our way to the airport the other side of the city, we found it was an extremely easy trip using SH74 across the northern side of town, with good stretches of 80km/hr dual carriageway; this was an unexpected bonus. As before, we much appreciated the delicious breakfasts provided in the wonderful surroundings of the large dining room.
Nothing at all.

Val welcomed us warmly and showed us round the impressive mansion. We had a very comfortable room overlooking the large, beautiful garden (which contained a large pear tree that was laden with delicious, ripe pears). An enormous, well-equipped kitchen was available for use by guests. A spacious dining-room provided comfortable surroundings for meals, including the delicious breakfasts provided by the hosts. Next to the dining-room was a large, comfortable lounge. The main rooms, hallway, stairs and landing were all decorated with original paintings produced by a member of the erstwhile owning family. We enjoyed the location near to the seafront.
Nothing at all.

Excellent location in a quiet area just ten minutes walk from New Brighton beach and pier. The property itself is large and very well maintained. The property also has an interesting history as it was once a Nunnery. Very good breakfast and with excellent quality coffee! Room was large and comfortable with a relatively spacious en-suite shower. Large and pleasant communal garden area. The large shared kitchen facilities are clean and very equipped. Hosts are pleasant, friendly and accommodating.
Nothing.

Sweet (and quite big) B&B Wonderful old building with big garden (used to be a convent) Nice hosts/staff Very clean Guest kitchen (well equipped and clean) I stayed for just one night, but it seems good for longer stays as well (provided someone really wants to stay in New Brighton...)
Water drained very slowly Keys were a bit dodgy (Both comes with the old building...)

Can't beat the value for money. The place is huge, with a big lounge and dining room, and well decorated. It's like staying in an art gallery. Hosts are very friendly and the breakfast was great. It's a short drive/walk from a beach and pier that were lovely.
There are no screens on the windows, so there were a few insects in our room (easily removed, and easily dealt with by closing the window, but they were open when we arrived).

It’s really a great place to stay!! I am very grateful to Val who looked after me so well!! She even gave me very very good indications about Rugby, which was wonderful to take a great memory for my son at home, in Madrid Spain, who is rugby fans. The room and the whole building really amazing. Thank you very much for having made my stay so unforgettable!!
Nothing. Everything was fine!

This is a very nice old house like a mansion and feels like you are in a museum with different paintings and antique items and souvenirs. The manager lady was super kind and had a smile with her face always and she showed us around that beautiful house. she attended to our special requests kindly and prepared our breakfast very early and it was really large meal for 3 of us but really delicious. Must stay again when we are in Christchurch .
Nothing and all good.

Our hosts were friendly. The Lodge is located within walking distance of a public beach area. It was a good stay for a one night resting point.
The rooms had carpet flooring which were moldy smelling probably due to humidity. While airy with large windows fans were needed for rooms when facing the sun. The upstairs exit door to the cars was left open to the main bedroom hallways at night.

We had a spacious room with en suite. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were lovely, very welcoming and friendly. Parking was excellent, a large off-street area mostly out of view of the public. One of the nicest breakfasts we have had, lovely fresh fruit salad, choice of cereals, toast, and spreads followed by excellent coffee.
Not a thing.

Value for money. Excellent breakfast. Very comfortable room & bed. Extra good to have sink in room & good access to shared bathrooms & toilets. Property was warm & interesting old house (used to be a convent).
Some doors banged loudly. Probably need some insulation strips to prevent that in an older property? Very minor problem though.
