The only female dorimites are newly refurbished. The rooms are equipped with a/c which is great. The rooms are clean with new beds and lockers for personal storage. An average backpack can fit in the locker with room for other personal items. Kitchen is spacious and there is a lot of seating in the lounge area. 5 min walk to the nearest bus stop.

The bathroom and shower facilities are gender- neutral. The toilets do have female & male signage allocations. The showers do not. Though I have witnessed male guests do not care for the toilet signage. I'd prefer sharing bathroom & shower facilities with only other women as the other two floors do.

I liked that I could even be check in, enter single room and get comfortable to arrange my belongings and settle in where I went to allocated smoking and drinking area of the property to which a large back carpark area. The room was clean and tidy. Bath towels and bed linen were provided - all smelled fresh and looked clean. No bites - so no bed bugs, thank goodness! There was also a TV and a small fridge. The location was great and the room had windows. Free parking provided behind the building.

Since Backpackers is located along a main street (Victoria St), the night traffic was a little noisy so we had to close the windows. Fortunately there's a ventilation duct on the room ceiling so the room wasn't stuffy and we managed to have a good night's sleep.

The vicinity was excellent. Nice cake and sandwich shop over the road. Lovely walk around the corner and down along a track by the river. Meeting other people. Having the ensuite. It was nice and quiet and clean. Kitchen was well equipped. Great Op Shops right nearby .

1st night shower was luke warm, but then it was very good and hot. Some people don't do their dishes. One pillow wasn't high enough and 2 were too high. The bed was a bit saggy. The photo of the twin room I took, had a couch you could put your cases on , but ours didn't, so they were sqeezed beside the beds and a bit difficult for us oldies to bend to get to them !

Checking into the accommodation was easy and swift. Paying with cash at the front desk was huge relief as paying with credit card was adding more cost. Cancelling booking at anytime was helpful as plans can change when your not able to

The television next door can be heard quite a bit but luckily i was too tired to stay awake. It bothered me a bit especially when it was in the early morning at 2pm. Helpdesk can help by asking the guests upon arrival to be mindful of occupants and keep tv volume to a comfortable low.

Safe - key cards for room and doors. Clean - kitchen was clean, utensils were clean (could do with a drying rack though. Toilets are clean as well! Comfortable - beds are comfortable. On the double bunk bed, it wasn’t too high so doesn’t feel too high and unstable. Free parking as well! Location close to city centre as well! Park nearby for you to go on walks as well! Walkable to the closest Pak n Save as well!

This hostel is really great, everything is new and clean and the prices are very affordable. I don't get why it got so many bad reviews in the past, but maybe that was under a different management. My bed was clean, the kitchen was great and fully equipped. And it's safe. There can be some strange people in the area (outside) but that is honestly an issue in every bigger city in NZ.

I think the mattress could be higher and softer.

It was a very clean accommodation. The kitchen and common area was spacious and had a nice energy. They also provided free tea and coffee, which is rare at backpackers hostels and a well-appreciated touch

A large group of drunken middle aged men were there at the time. One had been placed in a dorm with myself and another younger woman. He did not end up staying there, but it made us both uncomfortable knowing they could all access the room

Property is clean and well maintained. Facilities are basic but functional and easy to access. It is centrally located in Hamilton making it easy to get to grocery stores, the bus station, and even the Hamilton gardens.

Curtains around the beds would have been nice.
