This was a perfect end to our trip. While it’s peacefully rural, the property is a short drive to town, close to attractions like Hobbiton, Waitomo Glowworm caves, etc. and not far from the Auckland airport. We made the drive to the airport after checking out and made our flight with plenty of time to spare. So glad we did this instead of an airport hotel. The hosts were so generous, cooking us a hot breakfast each morning, even giving us an aspirin when we realized we were out. They could not have been more lovely. While the room technically had a shared bathroom, the house is so spacious that we didn’t have to share with any other guests. We spent the evenings watching the sun set over the mountains and would absolutely return again.

Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful setting, beautiful building, such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere - instantly felt safe and at home here. A stunning view, and various lovely animals to make friends with (cats, ponies, sheep and ask if you can get a carrot smooch from the alpaca!). Comfiest bed and pillows. Shared bathroom for some rooms which I usually don't like but the vibe was so lovely it didn't bother me at all, and there was a lovely bath tub for a nice soak after lots of walking around that day! Can't recommend this place more highly - so much nicer than all the options in inner Hamilton

Such a beautiful and restful location, as was our stay. Very clean. Excellent home-made, family style breakfast. Friendly host. Lovely view and loved the balcony! Restaurants nearby were not a far drive at all.

Access to the main house was difficult. I was told after-the-fact that there was an alternate entry, without steps, but I couldn’t find it. We had a shared bathroom, which was fine given the other guest was so quiet and clean. But this might not always be the case so a room with private bath would be advised if available.

Coleen and her family were wonderful hosts! The room was very comfortable and the breakfast delicious! We were allowed to feed the animals, use the kitchen, there is an extra fridge for guests and a big cupboard full of games and toys. We never had problems with the shared bathroom. The staff was wonderful and thoughtful. We were sad to leave!

Breakfast offered both cold ( yogurt, bread- toast too- and cereal) and cooked (eggs and bacon). Very fulfilling meal to start the day. Room was very spacious with a nice view of the animals and valley. Enjoyed talking with the owners.

Not a big concern but I meant to talk to Colleen about this before we left. We feel the spacious bathroom would be so much better with the addition of hanging hooks for clothes and towels and better lighting over the bathroom sink.

We found the Rua Resort to be a value for money experience. Situated in a commanding position, views from our balcony were outstanding. Colleen and her team made us feel very welcome and encouraged us to use the facilities of their home. Breakfast was a pleasant experience, enjoying the range of food on offer whilst spending time with other travellers exchanging experiences of our travels. We enjoyed our stay at Rua Resort and would recommend it to others.

We literally just checked out and I can’t wait to get back there again! Colleen & Clive are amazing hosts, and you can see their attention to details in the room settings from bathroom towels to cutleries and glasses. This is more than a B&B, it’s a 5 stars resort! Did not expect to have mingling time with the pet farm animals but the children loved feeding the sheep, alpaca, Baby cow, ponies, pigs, and playing with the kitties. Breakfast was amazing scrambled eggs & sausages, all kinds of toasts & cereal. Slept on the comfiest bed ever! A must stay for anyone in Hamilton region.

Hosted family was exceptionally friendly and the breakfast was super tasty.

Rua ‘Resort’ is the business name and if someone excepts a resort style setup you could be disappointed. But if you appreciate a family home comfort away from home, I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else in Hamilton New Zealand. Also the family has few rescued animals in the property and kids would enjoy them. The accommodation is situated in a large property with beautiful views all around.

With “Resort” in the name, I was expecting a hotel-like experience. This was a B&B, with beautiful views and sweet farm animals to pet. I’m a horse person and I was delighted that the property has 4 miniature horses. The hosts made us feel like part of the family. We slept in the master bedroom which had beautiful views and a cute Harry Potter bedroom in one of the closets. The host also gave us an excellent suggestion for dinner in Hamilton (Furnace).

It was an amazing experience staying Rua for one night during my journey. The house was fantastic and my room was lovely with comfortable mattress. Both me and my son had sound sleeps after two terrible nights at Auckland. The scenery was beautiful and peaceful with farm animals for kids to feed. Breakfast was nice and healthy. I’ll definitely choose Rua and stay longer time if I visit the north island again. (Sorry the Hobbiton picture was a mistake and I didn’t know how to delete it and that’s why it’s there)
