If you're looking for a peaceful spot near the city buzz, this place is a gem. It's just a short 8-minute walk from my hotel, making it super convenient without the hassle of taxis or long commutes. The neighborhood feels safe and quiet—no weird neighbors lurking around, just a serene, leafy vibe that lets you unwind after a busy day. The environment is truly tranquil, with clean air and a sense of calm that makes it perfect for a relaxing getaway.

I mentioned how the bathroom trash bin is a bit too small—even fitting a single roll of toilet paper is tricky. They explained it's because previous guests often damaged them, so they're keeping it compact to encourage better care of shared facilities. Fair point—let's all do our part to keep things nice!

The place was in a accessible location, and the staff were great. There were no issues with checking in, and being able to do so at 14:00 already, was a huge bonus. The room was clean, and you could lock the door to your room, plus your corridor, for extra safety. :)

The bathroom could have been cleaner. Since you are sharing it with 2 other rooms, not everyone keeps it tidy. In our case, someone kept leaving hair everywhere in the bathroom. Of course, this is not up to the staff, however, I wish there was someone cleaning the bathrooms multiple times a day, so we didn't have to clean after another visitor ourselves.

The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect — they were friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile. (Especially Ali) The check-in process was smooth, and the location was convenient for everything I needed. I really appreciated the attention to detail and how the team made me feel welcome throughout my stay. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for great value and outstanding customer service. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I’d have to say the fact there wasn’t no plugs near the bed and lamp but other than that all service that City Gate Guest house provided was exceptional

Upon arrival, we were met with a very kind host Ali who checked us into the room immediately. We straight away noticed how clean and spacious the room was and had a comfortable stay. The bathroom was shared but again kept very clean. The property has excellent transport links which was helpful in getting us to and from the O2 arena. When we came to leave, we asked about extending our stay as we couldn’t think of a better place for the price. Ali was quick to help us check into a nicer room with an en suite as the room we had previously stayed in was fully booked and was very reasonable with the price. He got us checked in straight away so we wouldn’t have to lug our bags around London for a few hours until the official check in time. Overall a wonderful stay with even better customer service.

The guy on the desk who is called Ali, was fantastic. He showed me all around The Hotel and took me on the roofs in and out. He made sure that I was comfortable in the surroundings and knew how to get in and out of the hotel doing it several times. He also showed me the left and it had rail on the buttons so I could tell what floor to press. He was fantastic watching me stay for two more nights as I was staying in a different hotel which wasn’t very nice, he had to move me rooms and he helped me do this today and also showed me the new route to. I’m from the new room. He was just brilliant! I would highly recommend staying at the hotel especially if you are visually impaired.

This is a really good value for the price you pay in London terms. There is a Stepney Green underground station 6 minutes walk away and you can even walk to Shoreditch, City and Tower Bridge. The room is spacious and clean. There is a kettle there with a coffee and tea. The receptionist, I think his name is Ali, is a great guy. Good energy and helpful.

A small fridge in the rooms would probably be a good idea. The bathroom was shared between 4 rooms. One girl was leaving behind her a ton of long hairs all over the floor and tub but it's not property's fault.

I picked City Gate Guest House as an overnight stay for a music festival at the nearby Victoria Park. I was delighted to find somewhere at a reasonable rate, and I was very happy with my stay there. In particular, I was pleased with the warm welcome I received from Ali and one of his staff, who made me feel "at home" and showed me the entry/exit protocols and the route to my room - that was much appreciated. The room was bigger than I might have expected, and the bed was very comfortable. I was also surprised to see a sizable Smart TV was available. The shared bathroom was just a few steps away and was as clean as possible, given its shared format. I got a great night's sleep, even though there were other guest rooms in close proximity. All in all, City Gate exceeded my expectations for a budget overnight stay, so I'll certainly return if I'm drawn to another Victoria Park event!

Two of us stayed here in early June and overall had a very positive experience. The location is fantastic, just a few minutes’ walk from the underground, making it super convenient for getting around London. The staff were nice and welcoming, which made the stay even more pleasant. Our room was a pleasant surprise too: it was quite spacious and had a large balcony, definitely a bonus in London where space can be tight! Considering the usual prices in London, we found it to be great value for money.

The only downside was the shared bathroom. It was cleaned well by the staff, but unfortunately, some guests weren’t very hygienic or considerate when using it. That’s not really the guest house’s fault, just something to keep in mind.

REFURBISHED BUILDING ON A ROAD WITH TRAFFIC. 6/7 MINUTES WALK TO VAUXHALL SUBWAY STATION. I HAD A ROOM FACING THE ROAD SO GOT SOME NOISE FROM THE TRAFFIC, BUT IT WAS NOT TOO DISTURBING. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF RESTAURANTS RIGHT NEXT TO IT BUT NOTHING ELSE. THE ROOM WAS SMALL BUT CONFORTABLE. THERE WERE ENOUGH SHARED TOILLETS AND BATHROOMS. BED AND PILLOWS WERE OK. SELF CHECK-IN AS THE GUEST GETS PASS CODES BY MAIL.

A BIT TOO ISOLLATED. SOME NOISE FROM ROAD. NO HOOKS TO HANG A WET TOWEL OR OVERCOAT IN WINTER. TWO FLIGHTS OF STAIRS

I am a returning guest to City Gate Guest House and once again I have had the most amazing experience staying here. One of the staff members named Ali has once again made me feel so welcome and as always has gone above and beyond for us. He’s always having a lovely chat with his guests and making us laugh and smile. Providing us with the best care. If there’s anywhere i’d choose to stay it will be here it feels just like home. The rooms were fully equipped with everything needed and Ali had gave us an amazing room. Thank you so much to Ali for another great experience and I will definitely be back!! :)
