Fortaleza Suites is in an excellent location, with nice and clean rooms and a friendly foyer/hall where one can sit and read. It is excellent that they have a person manning the reception area.

We received many e-mails asking us to pay for the deposit online 'to avoid fraud' and to keep the reservation (otherwise it was going to be cancelled if not responded within 12 hours); it seemed to come from Booking.com, but with the location's name. When called the hotel, they said the messages don't come from them and assured we have the room that we paid for. It was rather confusing and annoying, and looked like a hacker was targeting the guests of this hotel. The reservation was via Booking.com; did not experience this with other reservations. Booking.com needs to look into this!!!!

At first hard to find, the hotel is close to the parking lot, which was nice when walking with your luggage. We walked the entire city on foot. The Suite for a family of five gave us lots of space in the bedrooms. There is only one bathroom, but we knew that going in. There are many locks to get into the building which made us feel safe, but Old San Juan was a lovely historic city and we would love to come back again.

We are not fans of big hotels and prefer accommodations with local feel. The Fortaleza Suites did not disappoint. It's located in one of the historic houses in the old town. Our apartment was modestly furnished but clean and very spacious. It consisted of living room, full kitchen, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The second bedroom and bathroom were on the upper level, accessible by stairs. What surprised us was the complete lack of windows in the apartment. Every room had a small glass sunlight built into the ceiling, providing pleasent ambient light during the day. There is no way to cover them up, so If you need total darkness to sleep, bring an eye mask. The nice common area, with a little inner court filled with plants, looked tropical and exotic to me. As described, there is no parking by the hotel. There is no place to stop and unload your luggage either. It's on a narrow, quite busy, one way street. My husband did a 30 second stop, so we could jump out with the luggage. Then he parked in paring garage 2 blocks away and walked back. Since we did not plan to use the car while in San Juan it worked out OK. Thanks to a great location, we were able to walk to all the points of interest. Overall it was a great stay.

The location was superb, on one of OSJ’s most charming and lively streets. This property had ready access to all of the city’s attractions by foot, and was clean and well-equipped, thanks to the communal kitchen.

The bathroom was quite small, which would have been fine, except the configuration meant that the sink was practically in your face when you sat on the toilet, hahaha. The configuration also left little space for toiletries. On a final but important note, we were instructed not to flush used toilet paper, but to discard it in the waste can provided. This was because of the antiquated plumbing of a very old city, but we did not have to do this in the last place we stayed in OSJ. After the initial surprise and the “eww” factor, we worked it out and it was not really a “big” deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Great location! Close to everything in Old San Juan. Parking is a nightmare. We frequently used the discounted 24 hour parking, but before 3 PM, the lot is usually full and closed. Of course, this is not your problem, but a city problem. We truly appreciated the discount on parking.

The noise level during the night was frustrating. I realize you text out a reminder but I don’t think some guests pay attention. One night I was woken up by the same loud woman 3 times between 1 AM and 3 AM. The 2nd time I literally got out of bed, opened the door, and said, “Please. It’s 2 o’clock.” She said, “I’m not that loud!” Loud enough to wake me up 😩 It would be helpful if it was enforced.

Room was very spacious and clean and everyone was very kind and helpful. The AC was pumping and the beds were comfortable. We forgot wine and a phone charger so we went back and they were helpful. It was also great that they held our luggage for the day. I wish we had the chance to eat at their restaurant.

The shower seemed to not have hot water and the bedroom on the lower floor had a skylight which rudely woke us up at the butt crack of dawn lol but it is fine

Location was very central to old St Juan with all its restaurants and bars. Had plenty of facilities to self cater if you chose. It was very authentic local run business as opposed to corporate bland hotel chain, loads of space in apartment to. Staff super helpful

The apartment was very hot with little air due to no outside windows. Floors being tiled were slippery if they got wet especially in the bathroom. No elevators to upper floors but staff were so accommodating with helping to move bags when required

This place is awesome! Perfect spot, cool historic vibe, and we, a family of six, snagged two rooms close to each other, which was perfect. The kitchen in the main area was stocked with everything we needed – microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle, even a toaster and ice maker! With four kids of different ages, having a kitchen was a lifesaver. Rooms and bedding were spotless, and surprisingly peaceful despite being on a bustling street. It was great to be able to store our luggage while we walked around after checking out.

Had some issues with handling technology like the dish box and roku tv, needed some help which was provided. The air conditioning was excellent but had trouble trying to set a different tempeture, not clear, would change in the hand control but in the console but say the previous temperature not sure if i was managing it correctly! The person helping us had to leave the reception to help us, maybe someone available to help with this type of issue without having to bother the reception person would have made it easier and more comfortable in asking for help. We got help and i like that.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the room was very clean and comfortable. I'm picky to a fault with bed and pillow comfortability and this place was perfect in that regard, very comfortable there. Honestly one of the best I've had. The best part though was the location of the hotel itself - absolutely perfect and within close walking distance to everything important to see and do in old San Juan.

Not sure if this is a hotel-wide issue or if it was just my room in particular (it was directly connected to the main lobby) but it got quite loud at times in the morning and during the day in the times where I was back in my room to rest/nap etc. Could hear very clearly the conversations and commotion/movements of other guests and staff going about their day. They had quiet hours during the evening so there were no issues at night, that part was fine. But for example I was woken up on a Sunday morning around 7am by loud noises in the lobby; slightly annoying but not too big of a deal. Nothing major, just something to keep in mind depending on your sleep schedule/noise sensitivity.
