July 2025

It was warm and I felt safe and had everything I needed.

Only on Sunday morning I went to leave at 6 am. Since my car was out the back, I thought I'd go that way. I put my room key in the basket and went out the back door only to find the back gate was out of order and it said to use the front door. But now I didn't have my card to get back in. Luckily I eventually figured out I could use another door from the smokers area. Anyway, just wanted to let you know and perhaps also put a note on the glass exit door to use the front door, so people don't get caught in the in-between, like I did. But otherwise, I love staying here!!

Fantastic location beside Woolworths and Aldi. Able to access some walking tracks and view points by walking from the hostel. Heaps of free car parking. Large kitchen, easy to cook meals here. Heaps of space to socialise or spend time on a laptop. Grassy area with outdoor dining tables. The building and bathrooms are clean. Price was amazing.

The building, furniture and bathrooms are old, but everything is well cleaned. The bunk rooms are very simple/old and don’t have modern hostel touches like PowerPoints/USB on every bed, no individual bed curtains. No towels included, extra fee. Less social than city hostels as more varied guests and lots of people with planned outdoor adventures (hiking etc). To get the most out of the Blue Mountains I would recommend having a car.

In a great location on the main street of Katoomba in a former historic old hotel. A 10 minute walk downhill from the train station. Steps to multiple grocery stores, cafes, and shops. Easy access from here to all the scenic attractions. Friendly and helpful staff. Newer beds. Lots of large common areas including a full kitchen. Relatively quiet, probably due to the off season.

It's a hostel, so you know what to expect. The room was big and clean but very, very worn and seemingly not maintained. Cracks in the walls, bugs in the light fixtures, rotting windowsill, crunchy old carpet. Even though I paid extra for the ensuite, I couldn't make myself use the crusty old shower. The hostel opened almost 25 years ago. It's time freshen it up.

The place has a great location, it is close to the main stores, supermarkets and bus station, the place is cosy and warm, specialy for the cold weather. Great staff, very kind and helpful. Rooms are ok, just what you may spect from a hostel, clean sheets and really good towels. The kitchen is big, with multiple stoves, two microwaves and one oven, and plenty of dishes and kitchenware and lots of fridge space. Has a big common area to relax, watch a movie on the projector, or just chill. Very satisfied!

Wooden floor squicks a lot!, if you want to be quiet at night for a midnight toilet visit, everyone will know. Aside from that, everything was great.

We really enjoyed our stay at YHA, our private room was very comfortable and surprisingly quiet (which we loved!) The facilities were good (kitchen, pool table, table tennis, etc) The staff were nice too! Great location as well.

The plug situation in the room was odd… one behind the pillows on one side and one in the bathroom - it’d be helpful if there was one on the side of the bed or by the door. The duvet could be better - it was a little worn and thin. The breakfast wasn’t great - it’s cheap but what you get tastes a little stale (like the coffee and granola). Could get better pastries/bread, some fresh fruit and some cheese/ham from Aldi or Woolies and it would do the trick (keep the eggs though!)

Great location. Plenty of parking in back or on street. Everything was clean. Mattresses were actually fairly comfortable. Individualized lockers. Free towel.

Was in one of the rooms on the main floor next to the breakfast area. They started banging around at 6am and it was SO loud. Staff seemed a bit annoyed when asked questions. Cool art deco details in the building but poor paint and furniture choices made things look dingy. Having carpet in the room is undesirable. This is my first YHA but I've stayed in a HI location last year and was disappointed as well. Will be avoiding this chain when possible, I think.

Really enjoyed my stay here. The room was spacious. Comfortable beds. The social area was nice. Each evening they put on a film on the projector. I watched one of them. The kitchen facilities had everything you need. Very well located. Loved the fact you could open the window. We had just stayed in another hostel in Sydney where it was not possible and it was horrible and stagnant. It was brilliant feeling the fresh air come in!

The check in process could have been sped up. I got there and just wanted to go to my room but there was a delay and I am not sure why. The staff were helpful and lovely but it was just slow. The kitchen could do with another oven as someone else was using it when I needed it. This isn't a YHA thing, it is a problem with society. Everyone seemed glued to their phones. In both the kitchen and the social lounge, I tried to smile and nod to people to generate conversation but everyone kept in their little bubbles. If you are reading this, talk! :)

Beautiful place to stay at whilst in the blue mountains so warm and cosy with the fire on during the evening-which was great after cold hikes. There was plenty of seating- lounge and dining area, cooking facilities were clean and plenty of which was brilliant even if it was quieter during the stay here. Corrina at the reception was great, she had such a lovely personality and very welcoming vibe-great coffee maker too!!

Only thing would be the showers and that’s literally it- they kind of just sprayed everywhere but they were hot so can’t complain…

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful! The free parking was a great bonus, and there was a grocery store and a local attraction nearby, which we could easily reach by walking along a pleasant road. The breakfast was fantastic — delicious and with plenty of variety. The hotel staff were very friendly, always ready to help and provide useful advice. The kitchen was convenient, and we happily used the fridge and all the necessary utensils. We stayed on the ground floor, and we couldn’t hear any noise from the neighbors — either the soundproofing was excellent, or the neighbors were very quiet. Either way, the atmosphere was peaceful and comfortable. We’ll definitely come back here again!

Very nice old house, well maintained, converted into a hostel. - Very clean : nothing to complain, even the kitchen - My room was a 4 bunk bed room so up to 8 people. The room was very big and with plenty of space in our locker (my 70 l bag was able to fit easily) - The common rooms are the biggest I have seen in a hostel - Perfect location, very close to the city but not in a noisy place - Super nice staff, even the night duty manager : I came back late for check-in (called before) and he was super nice, even gave me a bandage (I was bitten by leeches during my hike and it was still bleeding) and then cleaned the common room around 10-11ich pm.

Not much to complain about, maybe the shower. The shower head was low (as usual I would say) and maybe 2 men showers for the floor was not enough. I didn't use the kitchen so I can't say if it was well equipped.
