Our stay at the sugar boat was amazing. We arrived to check in and the staff we really friendly. We stayed in room 2 which was super comfy and had what we needed, everything was so clean and the shower is definitely 1 of the best. We went into the sugar boat and had a couple of cocktails, it's great to be able to watch them being made and as it ad been really warm.the frozen strawberry daquari was so refreshing. The bed was really comfy and the quilt is definitely now on my shopping list.

There was nothing I didn't like about this stay

I found Rooms Above the Sugar Boat by accident, and it’s one of the best accidents I’ve ever had. Central location, above a bustling and friendly restaurant and bar, this place is a wee gem. The rooms are small but perfectly formed, and you can see that a lot of time has gone into the smallest details. As a lone female, I felt very secure with a proper lock and key, I was escorted to my room and had everything I needed to know explained to me. The team were friendly and welcoming, the room comfortable and I had the best sleep in a comfy bed. I left early, so received a lovely continental breakfast to take away with me. I really couldn’t have been happier with my stay here, and look forward to visiting again on my next trip to Helensburgh.

Good location. Central to my needs. Good restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Very friendly staff. Easy public parking (although you have to be aware of restrictions and timings) Quiet. Comfy beds.

Its not really a 'not like', because there is nothing that can be done about the very small room. No big deal, but for over £100/night I guess I had I had an expectation of a standard sized hotel room. It didn't detract from our two day stay.

On arrival at the restaurant we got a friendly welcome from staff and were accompanied to our room and shown how to operate appliances etc. We had booked the small room, which was a bit tight for two people, but was tastefully decorated and had quality soft furnishings and bedding. The room was immaculately clean, with a comfortable bed and lovely shower room. There was also a nice selection of teas and fresh coffee for the cafetiere as well as two freshly made Christmas pies!. We thoroughly enjoyed a late lunch of soup and sandwich of the day and perfectly cooked scallops. You could watch the chef making everything in the open kitchen . There was a lovely breakfast menu from which we selected scrambled eggs with bacon and poached eggs with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. All absolutely delicious, quality ingredients - even our pots of tea were made with 'real tea'. Highly recommend this establishment We'll definitely stay there again but in one of the bigger rooms.

Not a problem for us but there is a flight of stairs up to the bedrooms.

I really enjoyed my stay at Sugar Boat. The room was well-designed, spotless and the bed was super comfy. The shower was great and there were some extra features like a kettle, a selection of teas, ground coffee, and two freshly baked shortbread cookies. I had dinner at their bistro with their soup of the day (red cabbage with sour cream), accompanied by crispy and buttery sourdough bread. At breakfast, I wanted to try their porridge and it was scrumptious. The quality of each ingredient was high, portions were generous, and the price was more than reasonable. The staff were kind and easy-going. I definetely recommend Sugar Boat and hope to return soon.

We stayed in room 4 which was very spacious and lovely decorated. Liked the fresh coffee and tea selection in our room along with complementary shortbread. Beds were vey comfortable and it was lovely to look at the stars lying in bed.

Just a few minor things that were an issue within our room. There was no soap in the hand wash dispenser, the bathroom bin was broken (lid kept falling off when trying to use. Room got very warm in the evening and turned down the radiator, however remained warm.

Beautiful, expensively and tastefully styled rooms. Great shower. Sugar Boat downstairs is a top asset for Helensburgh. You could be in Bristol, Bath, Hampstead or Hoxton. A cool vibe, but everybody from a few months old to 86 (my mother) are made to feel very welcome. Breakfast menu 😋 coffee 👌

The smallest room might benefit more from a smaller bed (think queen size is smaller than a double) and just sold as a single... Slight drain smell

Great location in the centre of Helensburgh. Room was really nice, modern decor and great shower. Tea and coffee provided was good quality and the shortbread was delicious. My only regret was that I didn’t have time to explore the on site shop.

The entrance to the rooms was outside the restaurant so a brief moment later n the rain when going for dinner and breakfast but I had a coat! The parking nearby was difficult to find in the dark but I will know for next time.

This is a fabulous hotel situated on the town square. Car parking is next to the hotel. The bistro below is superb. We had dinner there on Sunday evening and breakfast yesterday morning. The staff in the both locations were efficient and friendly.

There was one minor issue.The steps to access the hotel are quite steep. We only had small cases and they were not a problem but larger ones may have been an issue.

The suite was not big, but was spotless and very well laid out. The bathroom was quite large. The breakfast was excellent.

Breakfast is only served from 9 am. On the day of departure, this is a little inconvenient, as the room must be vacated by 10 am. There are also quite a few stairs to reach the suite, which might be inconvenient for some people.
