I stayed in a one-bedroom Woodland Pod. It was compact but was neat and well laid out. The separate seating area was superb along with the balcony. The bed space was cramped ( You got in from the bottom) as was the ensuite but this was well-fitted. Being in the forest meant the dawn chorus was very loud. One night in rained and you could hear the rain on the roof of the pod. My wife tells me people pay good money for this kind of sound. The gym and thermal suite were very good and the staff were helpful. Dinner was well priced and was good quality
Wi-fi in the pod was very poor even thought they had a signal booster. Breakfast was mediocre in terms of quality but was hot.

Excellent service and friendly staff. The quality of the food was of a high standard and reasonably priced. The House has a warming and relaxing environment, we even got a free coffee to take away with us on our journey home! We stayed in a woodland pod which was comfortable and warm. The location is great for exploring the area. If you are a keen walker/ hiker, you must go to Smugglers Cave and Dollar Glen. Scotland in all its beauty.
I thought the Spa treatment we had was over priced and the relaxation room and reception area for the Spa could be improved.

Stayed in a pod (separated from the main hotel), but was built very comfortably. Small, but cosy and had enough room for 2 people. Really well fitted out and was a great place to spend a few evenings while using as a base to get to Edinburgh, Falkirk, etc. Plenty of parking, nice restaurant and bar, good location (only a short drive to Falkirk, Glasgow, or the tramline into Edinburgh), and quiet. The spa and fitness area was lovely. Small gym, but had what I needed. A really nice sauna (got up to a toasty 80 degC and 80% humidity), great steam room, and lovely hot-tubs. Didn't order any treatments, but the place was well organised and obviously well maintained. Staff were lovely as well. Really helpful and willing to try to make our stay pleasant as they could.
Cleaning was weird. Cleaners came in (bed was made), but it didn't seem like anything else had been touched. Coffee reserves were the same, towels hadn't been changed, even the floor hadn't been cleaned. Wifi was a iffy in the pod. Couldn't get connected no matter what we tried. Fortunately mobile reception was ok.

We stayed in a woodland pod, which was fantastic. It was well equipped, warm, and comfortable. The spa treatments were fantastic. Shame there's no pool. The food was also really good.
Strangely, the housekeeping staff who brought us clean towels also took away our 2 little champagne flutes. They were just plastic reusable ones, but they belonged to us, and we were using them. Really strange that they'd be taken. It's a small thing but slightly annoying. Also, some of the kitchen drawer knobs and the hand towel holder were loose and could do to be tightened up. We couldn't figure out how to make up the sofa bed either.

The exterior and interior was amazing! Nice dinner and breakfast at the restaurant.
When we arrived, there was noone at reception and no way to reach out to anyone. We waited around 10mins for someone to come check us in, while staff was passing by us and completely ignoring. One of the guys who walked by us at least several times without saying a word, finally came to check us in. During dinner it also looked like there was simply not enough personel - everyone waited long at each stage. Not sure if it’s always like this, or we were unlucky as there was some private event that night at the hotel

This place was amazing and the staff really looked after us. My partner and I were travelling with our 21 month old and we were welcomed warmly and all our needs catered for. The only thing I would say is that the rooms and hotel were sooo warm, especially overnight, and I couldn't work out the thermostat in the room. Our suite was beautiful, clean and inviting. Our meal in the restaurant in the evening was delicious and again our daughter loved her meal too and the staff were great with her. Breakfast was also fab with all tastes and dietary requirements catered for with a continental buffet and hot meals. I tried the spa and hot tub which was clean and relaxing. Great thermal suite with a lovely sauna - only wish we could have stayed longer!

Myself and my partner visit here every couple of months or so...We usually stay at in the woodland pods which we consider a little adventure as we are in our fifties and forties now😂 We have also stayed in the suites and both options give a different but equally comfortable and pleasant stay. The staff on our most recent visit were outstanding as always ...requested an extended check out eg..This was made to happen without issue by Ali.. We returned from our night out and went to the bar which was closing up but the bar tender made time to prepare a cocktail for my partner without fuss and made us feel at ease despite being late on.. The woodland pods are or happy getaway and the use of the thermal spa and hot tub are always the icing on the cake.. We have met the owner a few times who is down to earth and always likes a wee chat which is a cool touch ..All in all this remains our first choice night away break from it all.. Well done to everyone from management to the hard working staff making this venue work...
There are a few opportunities for freshening up in areas and small victories which make a huge difference ..eg the main lobby is a step back in time but my partner and O have always said that the atmosphere would benefit even more by lighting the LED candles near to the flowers stand or by burning some logs in the fireplace ..this has always been on the wish list to take this unique hotel to an even higher level... Drinks by the fire would seem like an easy win and improve custom at the bar as customers like ourselves would happily sit with drinks for much longer with this tweak.. All in all a great stay every time though ..no complaints

The location was lovely and quite as we stayed in the pods which were comfortable. Plenty of walks through the adjacent woods spotted Deer and Squirrels on our doorstep in the evenings. Unfortunately, the nearby woods had remnants of bbq, bottles, burnt wood etc which we avoided as did many local dog walkers.
The hotel had a delivery of outside wooden tables and unfortunately the brown pieces of cardboard was left on the floor along with the odd empty bottle, coathahger near the steps upto the pods.

Booked this as a last minute overnight trip away and was unsure what to expect. The drive up to the main house was beautiful with the property set within stunning grounds. The features within the building were remarkable and we both admired them. We were welcomed at reception by a gentleman who offered to book our evening meal within the restaurant and also made us aware of the spa facilities on site. We made use of both the gym and spa areas. Both were great, once one area got a little busy there were different relaxation rooms that you could make use of. We stayed in the Paton suite which was out of this world. The bathroom was a delight with its free standing bath, chaise lounge and own private balcony. The room was cleaned to a high standard as was the rest of the public areas. We enjoyed our evening meal which was reasonably priced alongside drinks.
Unfortunately we got little sleep as the bed was not comfortable at all. We are not fussy people in the slightest, however the mattress was solid. Breakfast was also a bit of a let down, with the hot food placed under metal serving trays. Some of it was hard and inedible as it wasn't freshly cooked and had possibly been sitting out for some time. We would have definitely enjoyed breakfast more if the hot food was prepared fresh and made to order. There was a choice of breakfast cereals, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, ham and cheeses which were suffice. We feel that the staff could have had more interaction with the guests and made conversation. We feel there was zero effort. We are friendly, bubbly people and enjoy a chat.

We stayed in a woodland pod for my partner's birthday – it was absolutely magical in the autumn!! We've stayed in similar accomodation before in Scotland and Ireland, but this was an even more luxe version of what we're used to. Really loved staying in the pods, we will definitely come back as it's a more unique experience than the main house (which is still gorgeous!). Plenty of space for 2, great facilities, really comfy bed, spotlessly clean, beautiful setting, loved the outdoor patio and back window into the forest. The value for money is fantastic. With guest access to the spa facilities from 9am to 8pm, it's way better value than even a single spa afternoon per person where I live in Glasgow... We asked to check in early to use the spa before our pod was ready, this was no problem at all – the receptionist even left her desk to kindly give us a full tour of the spa as well as robes, slippers, and lockers for our bags hours before we were even checked in as guests. It was such a personable experience and we really appreciated that. On the subject of the staff, you absolutely cannot fault them. From the cleanliness of the room, to the friendly demeanour of everyone (from reception, to the housekeeping team, to the restaurant and bar front of house team) and their willingness to help, this was such a highlight. What's more, because I had mentioned it was for a birthday treat, we arrived at our pod after check-in to find a whole plate of fresh cakes and macarons, a birthday card, and were even offered a complimentary glass of prosecco each in the restaurant!! We were blown away by how kind this was, especially when the staff had to prepare for a wedding fair on the day we arrived, and an actual wedding the next day. We also asked very last minute for a late check-out which they had no problem with – this is pretty rare in hotels usually I find! Thanks so much to the team for everything. Looking forward to staying again.
Nothing we didn't like about our stay.
