Both Outdoor, Indoor pools and Hot Tub/Jacuzzi. Great beach front location. Awesome breakfast options every morning. Clean rooms and great customer service. Everything was wonderful!

Everything about this place is superb--the people are friendly, the amenities are nice, the ocean-view rooms are phenomenal, and the overall location is fantastic! I've chosen to stay at Shutters whenever I'm in the area for several years now, and my sister's family has too, based on my recommendation. The interior of the ocean-view rooms is modern, clean, and comfortable. The balconies offer nice seating and a table so you can sit and enjoy coffee in the morning or wine in the evenings. I can't recommend this place enough if you are looking for a place to stay on the Outer Banks.

Everything was wonderful about our stay! The staff is always friendly and helpful, the entire location is very clean, and even the guests were some of the friendliest people we have met! This was our second year staying at Shutters, and we will be back! Easy, private access to the beautiful beach, and the pools were clean and a great relaxing spot! HIGHLY RECCOMMEND!

If I could change just one thing, It would be the view in the oceanfront rooms. I prefer an ocean view, not a dune view. But, when walking up the pathway to get to the ocean, you top the path, and you are greeted with the beautiful waves! Also, as a smoker, I think it would be beneficial to have more than one smokers spot, in different locations, still a decent distance away from other non smoking guests so we can still respect them. So, I'm not complaining at all...but those would be the only things I would change if I could.

Shutters on the Banks is a charming oceanfront hotel located in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. My wife Mercy and I had wonderful experiences during our recent getaway to Kitty Hawk from May 29 to June 1, 2024. Anyway, the staff are friendly and accommodating, and the hotel itself was cozy and welcoming, and their breakfast choices were numerous and delicious. The direct beach access and proximity to restaurants and attractions in the Outer Banks area added to the appeal. What can I say…my wife and I had a ton of fun flying our FIREBIRD KITE up high in the sky in the gentle, steady and smooth onshore breezes behind the hotel for a minimum of one hour a day, and was a ton of fun. In summary, my wife and I were so impressed with the hotel that we definitely plan to make it an annual family tradition to stay at Shutters on the Banks whenever we come to Kitty Hawk for our getaways. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Outer Banks region of North Carolina for a relaxing and enjoyable beach vacation.

Location location location! You’re right on the beach.

For the price being charged, I would not expect to find sand through my room. Please vacuum better or more often. Also, while they’ve made improvements in the beach path, there is still a massive drop off from the path to a very steep, soft sand dune. It’s a task to get down or up between the path and the sand. The one big bugaboo for us were the mattresses. They are cheap and do not lay flat. We lost out on sleep both nights because of these. The doors also slam shut. So you’ll hear that all hours of the day and night. We enjoyed our stay in spite of these things, but will look elsewhere going forward.

Good size balcony with andirondak chairs & table on the balcony with an ocean view. Comfortable beds! Great service from the staff, who went out of their way to help me gain access to wifi.

The weather! haha. No, really - because of the bad weather we spent a lot of time in the room. So, the only suggestion I have is to arrange seating for 2 so you can watch TV comfortably. My husband did NOT like to watch TV fully dressed and propped up in the bed. The one chair and ottoman were not at an angle to see the TV screen very well. There was no table to place your glass near the chair either. Just suggestions to make it more comfortable. Thank you.

Clean, renovated, friendly staff. You can purchase some of the items in your room if you want. You can tip the housekeepers. They provided daily care for the rooms. The breakfast involved a continental style breakfast. They have nicer luggage carts. Private beach. This is a nicer hotel than 2 stars, quite frankly. Would stay again. Love the shutters vs curtains which tend to look gross in most hotels. Nice balcony. All around impressive.

We went in the off season and it was a little cool. Property is a little older. You do have to hike up and down a dune to get to the beach. For the older people or people with younger children access to something that could help transport onto or off of the beach would be nice. There is an elevator in the tower portion. It is on the front. It’s still a great experience and was thankful to be close to the beach. Would have appreciated being able to rent carts or electric devices etc to get around (bonus not a demand on the property.)

The hotel is in a really nice location in Kill Devil Hills, it's got a private beach access so you can easily get from your room to the beach. It's close to nice food options and a short drive away from stores and pharmacies. The free breakfast was great for a family of 4 - when you have kids with you, you really want to get breakfast right away in the morning. The pool they have isn't very deep but it's great for kids to play in for that very reason - our kids did not want to leave. They have pool floaties for the kids right in the pool area. The staff were really nice and kind. I saw them cleaning the pool area every morning before it opened. There was a very pleasant laid-back atmosphere in the hotel.

The room window could not be opened, and we don't like sleeping with AC on. The bath/shower was stuck on shower mode only - you couldn't fill the tub to give the kids a bath. The microwave in our room had not been cleaned in a while. Our room was not cleaned during our stay, but on the other hand we only stayed 2 nights, so it didn't matter much to us.

Did not eat breakfast as room too crowded. The rooms are very nice. Staff was nice and friendly.

The beds were not comfortable. Hard and mattress noisy. Some of the staff that were cleaning rooms did not speak English. One showed up at our door on fourth day (room had been serviced by same guy day before) all he could say was bed and tried to communicate through app on his phone. Kept putting his phone up for me to speak into. I was not sure what he wanted. I just finally told him into his phone did not need service for beds. (We were due to check out next day). This made me very uncomfortable. Also, daughter tried to contact front desk to ask what this guy wanted but phone did not work.

I enjoyed how close it was too the beach the pools there were always clean and my little one had a blast in them there was a hot tub and the hot tub jets worked very well , the bed was super comfy and clean , hotel staff were very nice and accommodating .

The tub had a dip in it , Tv was a little difficult at first and like most hotels or the ones I’ve been to it had cable so for someone who’s use to streaming and no commercials it’s a different experience but my family and I were able to find some shows and movies to watch I would say there were alot of kid shows cop shows and older shows and the occasional recent shows or movies , the hotel did provided a pamphlet for channels that was super helpful tho
