Location - near downtown area of Monterey - lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Fisherman's Wharf / Cannery Row not too far away (walking distance or short drive). Room - the rooms are beautifully designed with high ceilings. Good wifi and room facilities

Parking Charge Water wasn't very hot/ a bit temperamental. The staff were helpful and we were offered an alternative room, but preferred ours.

Large room with a high ceiling, fireplace. and cute South Pacific decor. Very hot shower. Nice continental breakfast. Sweet reception.

Mattress hard/uncomfortable, needs replacing. Supplies not restocked after cleaning. We would definitely stay again, if mattress is updated. Do leave a note for the service staff about replenishing supplies.

Ultra-convenient location in the center of downtown. Excellent for exploring Monterey on foot, and a jumping off point for short drives to Pacific Grove, Carmel, Point Lobos, and Big Sur. Staff was above & beyond friendly and helpful, especially when we accidentally left something behind at check out. Room had cute decor, was spacious & comfortable, with French doors opening on to a lovely garden where breakfast was served. Parking on-site was convenient, with great bakeries, restaurants, and even an electric charging station for our car within a few blocks walking distance.

Little thing, but warm-colored LED lightbulbs in the bedside lamps would create a much cozier atmosphere. The almost-neon bright white lights were a bit jarring to read by at bedtime.

My husband and I recently visited the Merrit House Hotel from April 11 to April 14, 2025, for a three-day stay. As frequent visitors to Monterey, having experienced at least ten different hotels in the area, we found the Merrit House Hotel to be particularly enjoyable. The room we stayed in was clean and beautifully maintained. The complimentary breakfast, while satisfactory, consisted of boiled eggs, cereal, oatmeal, small muffins, danishes, coffee, and tea. A notable advantage of the hotel is its proximity to Rosine’s Restaurant, which offers delicious food and is within walking distance. Overall, we can confidently say that the Merrit House Hotel is our favorite among the various places we've stayed in Monterey. However, there are a couple of drawbacks to note: the beds were quite firm, there are no elevators to access the upper floors, and the breakfast selection could be improved. Room was nicely decorated with a fireplace. Staff friendly. Breakfast was a very good continental, with a variety of options including cereal, in a nice breakfast room. Great location within 5 minute walk to convention center. Handicap parking right outside my room. French doors out to the patio of my ground floor room. Large desk and chair for sitting.

Pillows were not good and smelled of BO. The bed (mattress) was very high and it took effort to get into it. (I'm 5'5")

The room was great except the corner of the rug going from bedroom area to bathroom is a tripping hazard. Should be fixed The fireplace w complimentary log super bonus.

The exterior needs work. For the price paid, pulling up to the hotel and walking to room was a disappointment. Luckily the room itself was great. Continental breakfast...not great, again for price paid

Great location! Perfect for fisherman’s wharf and whale watching tours. Great complimentary breakfast! Good parking facilities, although comes at a cost of 20 USD a night. Bohemian feel to rooms, pretty spacious and loved the little seating/balcony area overlooking the lovely gardens.

No air con- although we didn’t need it (September stay) There were blinds/ voile at windows but no blackout curtains/blinds so as soon as sun came up, this woke us.

Very nice location and within walking distance to shops/ fishermen's warf. Very nice breakfast with bagels, tea, coffee, fruit: served in an extra breakfast room on cute dishes. Monterey has a different landscape than beach cities. Lots if wood and cypresses. Staff was very nice. Very stylish make-up table in the room. Nice heating fan in the bathroom.

Could offer a safe. Bedrooms have no window but one door (patio).

We loved our stay here. The room was so cosy, big beds and comfortable but the top was the fireplace! They give you logs so you can light the fire. The room was very clean, and we had housekeeping service It’s set in a quiet, yet central neighbourhood and very safe. The breakfast is nice and simple You can park the car inside

Although there are quite a good amount of parking spaces you need to pay $40 per night - should probably be included for the price of the room

Loved the French doors that opened to the garden, large spacious room, complimentary firewood, easy checking and checkout, loved the old style hotel keys, decor was lovely, nice big desk and side table.

Bed was a bit too firm, walls are thin (could hear my neighbor and I feel parking should be included not an extra fee.
