The room was good size but could do with scatter rugs on the wooden floor. Bed was very comfortable Dinner menu not extensive but food is excellent. Dinner service was excellent. Staff were friendly and welcoming Location is in an extremely pleasant and quiet neighbourhood.
I couldn't get the underfloor heating in the bathroom to work. Breakfast is not served until 0800 - but when it comes, it is good. Breakfast was NOT included in my room rate

Beautiful rooms in a lovely landscaped courtyard. Was a good traditional pub with large beer garden. Every area was very clean. A lovely cooked breakfast that was included in our room rate.
Apart from the manger and a couple of the other staff, they could do with a bit of training in customer relations. Ate there on both days and not once asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu. Also staff gathered in the beer garden on the Sunday afternoon once they had clocked off, and we could hear a lot of foul language and also complaining of customers and other staff, which didn’t seem very professional. There were families in the garden aswel which couldn’t have been nice for them. The food prices were also quite high.

The second time of staying here we decided to stay again because the rooms are very clean and well equipped and the staff are excellent and friendly and the food in restaurant is very tasty and well presented including the breakfast !
I wish we couldn’t find a fault but this time we had a room with a very small bathroom and it didn’t have the lovely walk in shower and spacious bathroom that our previous stay had if we had known that all the rooms didn’t have the spacious bathroom with walk in shower we would of made sure to ask for that! And a footnote parking was very limited due to numerous walkers who were using the carpark to meet up and park their vehicles to go rambling! We think the crown & garter should ask for your number plate upon check in to make sure it is only the hotel guests, staff and people using crown & garter facilities parking there because it must create an issue sometimes !

Location was fantastic. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food very tasty. The whole site has been carefully thought out and well presented. The garden area for the accommodation is beautiful. Room very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The vibe is special but not pretentious.
The request for twin beds was sorted but not ready on our arrival due to a problem with messages getting through from Booking.com. The wrong plug had been put in our basin and resulted in it getting stuck leaving the basin unusable. Staff were very quick to come and look at the problem and though it wasn’t remedied during our stay, we were happy to manage without the basin. I think perhaps a ‘drink on the house’ might have been a nice touch to compensate this and the wait for the room to be prepared. Food was really good and we appreciated the use of local suppliers and no additives - small detail - poached eggs for breakfast were hard.

Beautiful, quiet rural location with exceptionally well done garden design next to rooms and around property and in back garden. Lovely to sit out in. There's also a little coffee shop with pastries attached to the pub. Staff were incredibly friendly and food was excellent and I had a tasty vegetarian dish. The room was well decorated, clean, although not large, and we had a bath which we had requested. Altogether, a great stay and would highly recommend. I stayed with my Mum and we visited Highclere Castle where Downton Abbey was filmed which is a 15-20 min drive from there so suited us well.

Lovely well appointed rooms in a beautiful courtyard setting. Room was clean with a good variety of teas and coffee along with both still and sparkling water. Excellent information provided in the room booklet. Heating adjustments worked well. Bathroom well stocked with toiletries and plenty of towels. Lovely shower, and the automatic light in the small vestibule is a thoughtful touch - it gently illuminates the way as you enter, preventing you from stepping straight into the sleeping area, which I know some people prefer to avoid. Can’t fault the rooms and the courtyard area outside has been beautifully designed with many separate seating areas. Whilst the evening menu wasn’t extensive the food was very good and service attentive. We were asked to pre order our breakfast the night before with a menu provided for us to choose from. This helped manage the orders in the morning and the breakfast was excellent. Good choice of traditional English breakfast, toast, eggs, croissant and granola with yogurt. Plenty of parking available too. Great hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a lovely stay. Thoroughly recommend.
All fab!

The female assistant manager was exceptional and we received such a warm welcome - she really was brilliant. The rooms around the courtyard were delightful and the whole atmosphere was gorgeous, a beautiful and peaceful place to stay - also convenient for visiting Highclare Hall.
We thought the breakfast was a bit stingy - no sausages left but we still got just one slice of bacon and one piece of toast each, plus a single cup of coffee and no refil, no cereals or fruit to start with either. They normally don’t do food on a Sunday evening - although they made an exception as it was the big match! No offer of even a light bite under normal circumstances.

One of the best cooked breakfasts that I’ve ever had. The quality of locally-sourced ingredients shone through. The rooms surround a courtyard containing a lovely cottage garden. Nice touches in the rooms - thoughtful containers providing sanitary products; free bottled water - now that’s a first for me! The staff are young, professional, friendly and completely invested in making a success of the place. A great team.
Nothing. I thought it was lovely. I occasionally visit Lambourn which is under 30 mins drive away. When I’m due to visit next, I’ll stay here again.

Lovely quiet location in beautiful countryside. The courtyard outside the rooms and separate to the pub is a fabulous space to enjoy drinks in the sunshine. The staff were friendly and fun, particularly the pair on duty on Sunday evening/Monday morning (I’m sorry I’ve forgotten names). Evening food was excellent and breakfast was good. Coffee shop does excellent coffee.
Nowhere to sit in the pub apart from at tables which were set up for meals so we didn’t stay for a drink before we went out on Sunday evening.

The property is in a pleasant countryside location. The staff are all friendly and the rooms very nice. Excellent WiFi and our evening meal was excellent, being served by attentive staff.
The pre order breakfast system is a shambles. The pre order form is misleading stating that only a limited item number of items may be ordered. After ordering and stating a time of 9 am we waited for 25 mins for our cereal and a further 10-15 mins for our mains. Very haphazard service to say only three tables were occupied.
