Our room was very nice - clean, spacious, & quiet. We very much appreciated the fan that was loaned to us since the hotel is not air conditioned and the temperatures were very warm! Dinner outside on the deck one night was delightful and delicious. Breakfast was good. We appreciated help doing our laundry since the washer & dryer directions were in German, but we thought the charge of 5 Franks/hour was a little much since it took quite awhile to dry! Most of the staff, especially the young lady who served our dinner & seemed to do several things in the kitchen/dining areas, were nice & customer service oriented. We enjoyed the patio area we had & being able to park our car there for free! It was a nice stay.

The hair dryer quit working; we used the fan in our room constantly because there was no AC; we got the impression from one or two of the employees that the hotel making money was more important than the customers being happy - perhaps that is just “personalities”.

We loved this place! It was a little bit of a hike to and from the town but nothing crazy. We liked that it was slightly off the main strip because it was a bit quieter. You could always drive up and down but we found the walk just fine! The bed were COMFY. Bathroom and facilities were clean. We enjoyed that the had laundry we could use. There food was OUTSTANDING! and services was top notch. We felt right at home. The staff there was more than accommodating and even let us keep our luggage there after we checked out so we could spend a half day exploring still!

The walk up could be too much for some. BUT, it was the reason we enjoyed it because it was off the main strip where it was a bit louder!

Room (we had family suite) was very spacious with the 2 adjoining rooms. Good to have coffee maker and could get a kettle upon request from front desk. The view to the Eiger was great from the balcony outside the room but we were on the first floor, and I suspect the third floor suites may have been even better for the view from within the room. Parking was easy. Many reviews complained about the steep climb to the hotel from the train station, but we managed it okay a few times with a 9 and 6 year old, though it could be harder for more elderly people. Front desk staff quite helpful on where to go. If skiing, there are a number of places in town to rent equipment and then can buy ski passes (a bit confusing with all the various transportation pass options). Rooms were well heated and we had the choice to even open the window to cool down a bit as it was 10 degrees in Feb so quite warm for Grindelwald. Food options in town are quite limited unless you want a sit down meal, and hotel dinner needs to be reserved in advance, but we managed to buy stuff from the local grocery store in town (open till 7 PM) one night and got takeaway pizza the other night. The bathroom was basic but clean and good, I had read on some other reviews that this was a problem area, but it was not so for us. I daresay it was slightly better than how it looks in some of the photos which make it look quite rundown.

Breakfast was pretty basic - cereals, croissants/bread and cheese. Decent, but basic and for the price it could be better. Staff at breakfast were also not as friendly as the staff at the check in counter, though they were not rude either. The room has a safe but its quite so cannot fit larger electronic devices like ipads or laptops.

Very nice views, easy to reach from the train station, very nice balcony, comfortable beds

There us no machine for tea and coffee during breakfast, you need to ask the person in charge to bring them to you, when it is crowded, it difficult even for the person serving. Breakfast is good, but some things are difficult to reach i.e. vegetables are in jars and need to be taken with spoons

We liked: 1. Wonderful staff for making us feel at home 2. The hotel transfers up and down the hill: even though it's a short distance, with suitcases and young kids would have been a challenge :) 3. The location: close to town yet quiet, beautiful views as it is on a hillside, close to the supermarket, restaurants, train station etc. 4. Kids toys in the lobby! What a cosy touch, thank you. 5. The family suite was cozy, clean and comfortable 6. Breakfast and our dinner there were delicious and our dinner staff were wonderful too

That we did not book for longer.

Location was perfect, about two blocks uphill from the busier downtown and the train station. The hotel was quiet, pretty and had gorgeous views of the town and the mountains over the beautiful window boxes on our balcony. We slept well and the breakfast room was nicely decorated and served a typical Swiss breakfast food — cheese, sausage, yogurt, breads, cereal, fruit and yogurt. The staff — Lise in particular — was very nice and very helpful. We were very pleased we picked the Hotel Alpenhof Grindelwald as we could walk to most things we wanted to do and places for dinner. The hotel’s free parking lot had a reasonable amount of room, unlike some other hotels we saw.

Maybe a little more variety for breakfast, as we stayed there 6 nights. But what they had was always great.

I would highly recommend this wonderful hotel. The geraniums on the balconies are exactly like in the photos. It is a very welcoming sight on arrival. The rooms are lovely, very spacious, well -equipped with a separate partition as a salon and the views are amazing. Yes, it is up a little hill but it is fine and well worth the effort to be away from the main road in Grindelwald. The breakfast is amazing with a huge choice of good quality food and the restaurant food in the evening is excellent and fairly priced. No need to walk down into the town to eat. Thanks to Tiago for his excellent service. All the staff without exception are very friendly, efficient and helpful. I would most definitely return.

Nothing. Everything was perfect

We loved our entire stay here from the mountain views to the warm staff & great breakfast. Tucked away up the hill from the main drag we had a perfect setting for our first stay in the Alps!

Amazing view and just a short walk from the train station. Easy to walk to restaurants and gondola stations. Staff were friendly.

Bathroom had a very strong cigarette smell. We always had to keep the door shut or the whole room would smell. Very unpleasant to use the bathroom as a result.

View from our balcony was worth every penny spent! There was not much to do in the town at night, but to sit on that balcony and look out was perfect. Our room was very spacious. Man serving at breakfast was so kind and friendly. Bartender/waiter was nice. Location was great.

The bar and restaurant were not open every night, so we went to Coop to get wine. Breakfast was OK. No hot food but filling.
