This is a wonderful old scottish lairds manor house turned into a hotel. Hidden in a beautiful valley on a quiet road the hotel sits in a beautiful scenic area. The hotel itself reflects a bygone age but with modern upgrades to bedroom accommodation. The staff were very attentive from the moment we stepped into the hotel until we left. There is walkng access to the estate and even use of the carpark for non residents. Not fussy but overall a very welcoming hotel. with good food. It was wonderful to find this hotel in an area where the main roads were full of motorbikes and camptervans. It was far enough off the beaten track to allow the mountains of the Cairngorms to speak to the history of the area.. Ask the receptionist for her potted history of the hotel and estate, an really interesting read.

Nothing.

Meals were superb. Especially the breakfast. Staff friendly . Stunning location Loved the working fireplaces. Bar has a stunning whisky collection. Dog friendly too which is always a bonus. Nice touches from the hotel such as water bowls. Treats and dog waste bags provided . You can also choose to dine with your dog if that's your thing. Will definitely be back again.

The blue cheese and pesto pizza from the bar menu was not the best(ok ... It was vile ). It was simply not up to the standard of the rest of the food which was out of this world. A USB charger in the room for phones etc would be nice.

It was such a pleasant hotel experience—especially the journey from the gate to the hotel. The sheep in the field seemed to welcome us, and the river flowing through the middle of the field added to the charm. The view was absolutely stunning—lush greenery everywhere. It genuinely took our breath away. There’s nothing negative to say at all. Everything was perfect! The dinner was so delicious and just the right quantity to satisfy our hungry stomachs. Breakfast was also lovely—and they even specially provided boiled eggs for us upon request. Such thoughtful service made our stay even more enjoyable!

There is nothing that we disliked

The location is stunning with the views on the hills, the river and a lovely garden. So much wildlife around, you can watch many birds and cute lambs. We dont play golf, but there is a nice golf course just next door. The hotel has large rooms, Golden mirrors, old furinture and interesting antiques. It is clean and the staff are lovely and attentive. Breakfast and bar food is lovely too.

I feel the place is tailored for golfers and people who dont walk much. Although the hotel is at the start of a 8hr Munro walk, there are very little other walks in the neighbourhood, not many paths to wander. Also, some places need more TLC, there is paint chipping off the window frames and some wall repairs have not been painted on yet. For the price I was expecting slightly more.

Loved the location, in a stunning valley. The staff were superb, nothing was too much trouble, they were friendly and chatty. The building is great, slightly rambly inside and I kept thinking of those house parties one reads of between the wars; it all felt a bit Wooster-ish or Mitford-ish, in the nicest way! Bed was comfortable, check-out time civilised and the price, which includes breakfast, was reasonable.

The shower in our room was appalling, emitting a feeble dribble of water- the water was lovely and hot, there was just barely any of it! And the food at dinner was not really value for money, unlike everything else. Most of it didn’t have enough flavour, although it looked pretty. If I went again - and I’d like to because the overall experience was good - I would have a bar snack in the cosy lounge area and enjoy the comfy sofas.

We were a family group that stayed in the family suite situated in the finished attic space of the property. The suite was surprisingly spacious and the views out were lovely. The hide-away bed was reasonably comfortable, and it was nice that we still had a sofa and dining table to relax and enjoy. We enjoyed wonderful meals and attentive service throughout. We also enjoyed walking the adjacent golf course, taking in the scenery, and relaxing in the garden with drinks from the bar.

The only bathroom was through the bedroom. This was not a big inconvenience for us as a family unit, but it could be for mixed groups.

Good choice for breakfast. Berry compote was lovely and cooked breakfast very nice. Monkfish curry was very tasty. Steak the second night was good but bit disappointed it was the same menu both nights. Maybe it could be the same menu but then have a different special on each night.

The rice desert wasn't very nice and was very watery - did put us off having a desert the second night although they did acknowledge it hadn't worked well that night. Also served in a large bowl - would be nicer in a small round dish Tea at breakfast wasn't very hot - maybe came out of a cistern?

Super dog friendly. Staff were amazing, the right level of friendliness and loved the dogs, making a hug fuss every time they saw them. Food was excellent in both the restaurant and bar. The Castle Hotel is set in a stunning location with the cairngorms behind it and the vale of Glenshee in front. Our four poster bed was one of the comfiest hotel beds I've ever slept in and the pillows were decent and not the wafer thin useless ones I often find in hotels. We will definitely be returning to this hotel as there is so much to see and do nearby and it is a great place to stay. Restaurant was able to accomodate my wife's Gluten intolerance really easily and she had a good choice from the menu as a result, again, many places she is limited to just 1 or 2 dishes.

The bar food was excellent but, unlike the restaurant, not so suited for gluten intolerances. It's a small point but would be nice to see a couple more options.

Lisa, who checked us in, was fantastic! She couldn't do enough to help us, and answered all our questions in a professional and pleasant way. Lovely meal for dinner. The grounds and scenery were really great. Best bit was sitting in front of the fire after dinner

Our room was a bit old. There were cracks in the walls in the bathroom. The lady who checked us out was not personable and pleasant. She told us she had to do yesterday close before she could allow us to check out. We were delayed in checking out because of this, and we had said the night before we wouldn't have breakfast as it was too late at 8am. We had to wait until nearly 8am to check out, when we were told last night we could leave at 7.30.

I almost didn't want to provide a review as I wanted to keep Dalmunzie Castle as our wee secret, but praise where praise is due ... Dalmunzie Castle was almost exactly what I'd hoped it would be. An old country house/castle beautifully brought up to modern standards while retaining the charm of its older features. The tower bedroom was magnificent with amazing views on three sides and it had the best bath I've used in years! There is so much charm about the hotel that getting lost on our first trip from our room to the bar was a genuine delight! Dinner was fantastic (the venison was excellent) with a choice of a formal menu or great pub food and there was a fine highland breakfast too. You know how some places say they are Dog Friendly but turn out to be dog tolerant. Not at Dalmunzie with Harris being made as welcome as we were. Obviusly we weren't in the main restaurant with him, but a super table was set up for us in the sun room with even better views. There is a super cosy bar area with a wonderful old worldly living room and an exceptionally good choice of whiskies (I'd forgotten how good Blair Athol was). The staff were so friedly and genuinely keen to help with anything that you could have needed. A special mention to Lisa who was such natural and friendly receptionist, bar person and front of house assitant. In one visit Dalmunzie Castle has gone from "I wonder what that place is like" to one of our favourite hotels in Scotland. Thank you and we'll be back.

More outside seating, but it turns out that they'd been caught out by the unusually great early April weather as it was all away being refurbished.
