We loved the setting / location, the historic nature of the property and how the rooms were set out in keeping with this. I personally loved the privacy kittens! The rooms were comfortable and had all the facilities that you would expect of a hotel room. There were also lots of lovely rooms indoors to chill out, read, play a game etc. and the proximity to Yering Station winery was a bonus.
The room could have been a bit cleaner, but I recognise the time pressure between guests. Maybe every few weeks, if a room is not full one day, then an additional deeper clean could be done. The breakfast was good but not amazing. The coffees (1 only) were quite small (although one staff member found us bigger mugs on request). The food was really good, but not a huge choice and no continental options (pastries etc.). The food was lovely but we've had better choice at similarly sized establishments. Surprised that there were no chairs for sitting outside in the gardens (under a tree), and that the pool was not serviceable in the middle of summer. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the downstairs spaces too.

Chateau Yering is a charming, older-style hotel that has great ambience and wonderful views across the rolling Yarra Glen hills. Our large room was well-furnished with period-style furniture and fittings. The bed was most comfortable with quality bed linens. The bathroom was also large and well-equipped with a shower and tub and plenty of hot water. As we were staying for several nights, we were fortunately able to upgrade our booking to include a sitting room with table and large verandah - plus direct views towards the hills and glimpses of the winery next door. The a la carte breakfast included a range of dishes to choose from, and we enjoyed the selections. Eleneore's restaurant also served high-quality evening meals plus lunch on the weekend (set menu choice). The reception and dining staff were very helpful and welcoming. Overall, a great hotel for a quiet getaway in close proximity to Yarra Valley wineries and other attractions.
TVs and WiFi are basic - upgrades would improve the overall amenity of the hotel.

Chateau Yering is a wonderful and comfortable place to stay for some quiet and rest. The location is far away from the main noisy touristy attractions but close enough to restaurants, cafes and the local IGA, if required. The room is spacious, and the bathroom is huge and clean, with a generous supply of toiletries and fluffy towels. The staff is friendly and helpful when needed. The old-world charm is the reason that we chose to stay twice in the past 2 months. Will return when we require another restful getaway.
The staff is kept to a minimal. This wasn't an issue for us, but if one is used to being attended to speedily, this may be something to think about.

Chateau Yering is a lovely hotel with a charming vintage heritage decor throughout its rooms and public areas, a style that's becoming increasingly rare. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, going above and beyond by providing us with complimentary room upgrades and even checking in to see if we needed anything while we were getting ready for a wedding at the nearby Yering Station Winery. The complimentary breakfast was also a highlight, offering a wonderful sit-down dining experience with a great selection of options.
My only slight issue was that the beds were a little soft for my personal preference, as I prefer a firmer mattress, but I understand this is subjective. Also, depending on your plans, it's worth noting that the location is a bit outside of town, so taxi availability might be a factor.

Stunning old English-style chateau. Very spacious rooms with balconies. Named after the original aristocratic stays. Located not too far from the nearest towns, for supplies, yet far enough to have very little light pollution. Close to the chocolate factory. Delicious breakfast, usually included. Free, plentiful parking. Winery and art installations on premises. Dumbwaiter.
The pool was under construction, during a very hot summers stay. And the tennis court required clients to bring their own equipment, with no option to hire and any equipment store hours away. It would not cost much to buy some inexpensive tennis rackets and tennis balls ~ especially if leased out at a reasonable rate. Poor Wi-Fi connection. Located halfway between the nearest two towns, hence at the furthest possible distance, should you need supplies ~ although there is very little the chateau doesn't provide, making this more of a benefit.

The historical building is really beautiful with its large rooms, restaurants and lounges. And the staff is amazing, you rarely meet such committed people! Absolutely fantastic!
It was disappointing to see how neglected the historical garden was. It really needs some urgent care. It has a huge potential. And the swimminh pool: leaving it under renovation, to stay and wait to be ready ( you could see for your own eyes that the constructon site has not been touched for a very long time) is not acceptable. And as for the tennis court, it should be renovated as well ; and for the very least to be cleaned properly. And yet for the complex: the wi-fi did not exist. How is it even possible - it’s 2025.

Breakfast was in the cafe/conservatory. The location was pleasant overlooking the gardens. Breakfast range was good, varied and well presented.
The reception staff let the place down. We were not told that the wine tasting next door was included. We are in our 70's and were not offered assistance with our luggage which we had to carry up stairs to our rooms. There was a mix-up with the room keys. When we were leaving, Melanie from housekeeping assisted us with our luggage sending it down in the dumb waiter. I must complain about the smell in our room. It smelt very strongly of seafood. On Saturday we raised the issue with Melanie and she had the fridge cleaned out. This wasn't done on Friday before we arrived. The cleaning staff should have reported it and done more to fix it.

This is a truly beautiful Chateau but it has a few issues that should be addressed to give a fully pleasant experience to its guests.. Breakfast was enjoyable.
I was initially placed in a room with no hot water . (Staff were aware of the issue but strangely did not say anything this was at 5pm) I had to move rooms when I tried to have a shower thankfully I noticed before staff left for the night. . Couldn't open the garden doors. Shower grouting was very dirty in both rooms. used soap bar left in shower Dirty wine glass Strangely 2 single mattresses were used in both rooms to make a queen bed the split in the middle of the joining mattresses made for an uncomfortable night.

Location is nice and quiet. Room was spacious with high ceiling. Balcony was big. Hotel and rooms are Victorian so great for those who appreciate older stuff. Breakfast was great, staff was nice and serving time between 7:30 and 10am meant no rush before checkout.
Wi-fi issue: staff had no password for the one and only one wi-fi access in room, rather they had the password for the non-detectable 'guest' network, the staff did try to help on approach and gave me the 'staff' access but that network was only detectable around the reception area. Was told they are aware of the issue and someone is coming to fix the issue next week? Luckily we have our own data but for those who rely on public wi-fi they may well find it inconvenient. Majority of power wall sockets in the room had round earth pins, which is not compatible with normal Australia 3 flat pins plug (240v appliances). There was, however, one usable power point in the bathroom though and you can also piggy back the power board behind the TV and the fridge.

Outstanding dining at Eleonore’s Restaurant - great menu, executed with top notch skill. Beautifully curated wine list. Very knowledgeable, professional and enthusiastic waitstaff. After setting such a high standard at dinner, we were extremely pleased breakfast at Sweetwater was also fantastic. Our rooms were comfortable, spotless and charming. A truly memorable experience, Chateau Yering is at the top of our list for another visit in the near future.
We only wish we lived closer and could visit more often.
