My wife and I stayed at the Cuckoo Brow Inn from Saturday to Monday last weekend. In the past , we have spent nights in hotels all over Europe, the Americas and Asia, and some of these stays were at 4 and 5 star accommodation. But the Cuckoo Brow really did shine out amonst many others. This accommodation is truly a real treasure. Primarily, the rooms are immaculately clean, well stocked with everything you could ever need in a bnb, cosy, warm, and of course an extremely comfortable bed. As mentioned previously, the bathroom was perfectly clean, and there was more than ample hot water for a lovely bubbly soak after a long walk. But all this is not what makes The Cuckoo Brow stand out from its competition... this is the staff. The hotel appears to be run and owned by a family, who are wonderfully friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We simply can not remember a hotel or airbnb that stands out more than the Cuckoo brow. We headed out on Saturday morning for a peruse around Grasmere, followed by a walk we had planned close by. On arrival to Grasmere village car park, I came to pay for the parking fee and noticed I had either forgotten or lost a considerable amount of cash I had in my pocket. Even before I could start a detailed search for my cash, my phone rang, and on answering, it was the receptionist from the Cuckoo brow to inform me that their daughter had found the cash on the floor of the car park and they would look after it until our return later in the day. Honesty of this level is, as we all know, unfortunately rare these days. I was very very impressed. Finally I would like to mention the food.... our breakfast was included and was a lovely varied menu with something for everyone 😋 and the Cumberland breakfast was just the best I have had for a long time. We also ate in the restaurant on Saturday evening and the food again was both delicious and at a lofty standard above the most others.

The Cuckoo Brow Inn is amazing it has character and history. The Inn is run by a family and every single one of them goes above and beyond. It was clean, the food was amazing and the staff beyond exceptional. While there it was my husband’s birthday and unbeknown to us the staff put up balloons, a banner and gave him some chocolates and then a surprise pudding with a candle after our meal. I would highly recommend Cuckoo Brow Inn to anyone.
There wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. But if you don’t drive then the inn is on the quiet side of Windermere and you would struggle to get around unless you are there just to walk and hike in that area.

This is a beautiful little inn. We had a room in the original building which was a good size and comfortable. Bath with shower and loads of hot water. The view is obviously stunning and so peaceful. Short walk down hill to ferry though there is a place to park if you don't want the walk up hill on return. We didn't take a dog but the hotel is dog friendly. The food is excellent and I'd highly recommend you have at least one evening meal there, you won't be disappointed.
The only negative is there was no area just to relax. There is a settee and two arm chairs in the foyer but that's all.

The staff are really friendly, they made the staff better than planned. Outstanding. The food was excellent, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, and here you get value for money. Very good sized portions. A good menu that i could happily work my way round. Breakfast was a very good selection of both hot and cold foods. Drinks in plentiful supply, and excellent coffee. Bar stocked with a good choice and prices are good as well. The room was very comfortable with a decent sized TV that worked. The bathroom is of a good size with bath and shower. Off road parking available. would i stay again-hell yes. Definitely!
Anyone can pick holes in a venue, my negative points may be pedantic so not bothering to say them

The culinary experience was truly exceptional, offering a diverse and appealing menu. Each dish showcased exquisite presentation, elevating the dining experience to an art form. Fresh, high-quality ingredients were evident in every bite. The attentive service enhanced the overall ambience, creating a memorable occasion. This establishment sets a high standard for culinary excellence. The staff's dedication to providing high-level service was evident throughout our stay. Their attentiveness and anticipation of our needs created a seamless and enjoyable experience. A welcoming and friendly atmosphere permeated every interaction. This exceptional level of hospitality truly enhanced our visit and left a lasting positive impression. We highly recommend this establishment to others seeking a comfortable and accommodating environment.
The bathroom could benefit from some minor improvements to enhance its appearance. A fresh coat of paint would address the chipped areas and revitalize the space. Replacing the broken door hooks would restore functionality and add a polished touch. Thoroughly cleaning the bath would create a more inviting and hygienic environment. These small enhancements would greatly improve the overall impression of the bathroom. These minor imperfections did have a negative impact on our stay.

We booked a night at this hotel due to the snow and it wouldn't have safe to drive home. During our stay in Faw Sawrey elsewhere we had eaten here a couple of times and the food had been great and the staff bent over backwards to be accommodating and that did not change during our very brief stay, due to the weather and checkout we were at the hotel by 10.30am as soon as they were aware we were booked in for the night our room was ready for us within the hour. We were really grateful for this. We had a great Sunday lunch and the breakfast was fantastic too.
I wish we did not live 5 hours away.

Absolutely amazing stay at The Cuckoo Brow, a warm welcome and given a beautifully appointed warm room which was immaculately clean the bed was super comfortable and a wonderfull view, dinner was fabulous a highly recommend the pie which was superb, breakfast was equally good we both had Bacon & Waffles which were quite simply delicious, the whole team are friendly and helpful, If you are planning a stay on West side of lake forget Hawkshead, Coniston get yourself to Sawrey and make a visit to the 'Cuckoo Brow' it is a fantastic hotel run by a superb team.
Nothing everything fabulous

The staff were amazing. Very friendly and made me feel welcome. The lady who assisted with breakfast and the chap who took my dinner orders were excellent. Sorry, I don't recall the names, but these two individuals were particularly hospitable. The location had lots of lovely walks close by in the woods and nearby tarns. The location was also very quiet both inside and outside, allowing for a good night's sleep after a long day hiking! The food served was tasty, and there was a good selection in the breakfast buffet. I would not hesitate to stay here again.
I would have liked a mini fridge in the room as with no nearby shops, it would have been nice to store some perishable foods. Ideally, I would have liked to have eaten breakfast earlier, perhaps at 7 am. I appreciate that this may not have been feasible.

Lovely rustic property in keeping with the local surroundings. Good location. Perfectly adequate rooms; comfy bed and clean. Food was fantastic; Breakfast was great and we enjoyed a lovely evening meal.
The organisation was a little chaotic on arrival between booking and arrival process; dinner reservation that had been confirmed by email hadn’t been transferred onto booking but then I received a call asking if we were running late. Cost of evening meal was quite expensive, despite good food, it would make it costly for a family.

This was a return visit after 11 years .. and the Cuckoo Brow Inn is just as lovely as ever. A new management team of course.. doing a great job ! The Inn is beautifully placed in the midst of the District .. easy to get to those places you possibly want to see like Hill Top Farm etc. Yes . you will need a car !. Fun to go on the Ferry between Bowness and Far Sawrey .. or the drive either from the south or the north is beautiful in lovely narrow roads out in the country. The pub/hotel is dog friendly, like most places in the Lake District .. and popular .. so book a table if you want to eat there at night. !! Great breakfasts .. Comfy beds .. great showers/bathrooms .. what more could you want ?
Just one thing .. the shower had no flashing or seal so the water just poured down the glass .. and onto the floor .. requiring constant mopping up .. and a waste of towels... let alone the probable damage to the woodwork.
