The location of Cuckoo brow was as we expected, quiet & away from life’s hustle & bustle. The rabbits hopping about at sunrise made it seem whimsical & we enjoyed the views from our room which were splendid. It’s a great place to explore if you like walking but equally as good for relaxing & dining as the Restaurant served many dishes to suit all tastes. Parts of the hotel are a little tired but that didn’t detract from the warm hospitality of the Mauritian family who run this hotel with love & pride. The bedroom Room 1 was large, airy & spacious with plenty of room to move around & the bathroom was huge. We dined in the restaurant two nights & opted for typical Mauritian dishes which were very different & most enjoyable. We had a really nice stay at Cuckoo Brow.

The only downside was the sockets which were hard to reach under the table that held the tea & coffee etc, there was no other sockets in the room but these two.

My wife and I stayed at the Cuckoo Brow Inn from Saturday to Monday last weekend. In the past , we have spent nights in hotels all over Europe, the Americas and Asia, and some of these stays were at 4 and 5 star accommodation. But the Cuckoo Brow really did shine out amonst many others. This accommodation is truly a real treasure. Primarily, the rooms are immaculately clean, well stocked with everything you could ever need in a bnb, cosy, warm, and of course an extremely comfortable bed. As mentioned previously, the bathroom was perfectly clean, and there was more than ample hot water for a lovely bubbly soak after a long walk. But all this is not what makes The Cuckoo Brow stand out from its competition... this is the staff. The hotel appears to be run and owned by a family, who are wonderfully friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We simply can not remember a hotel or airbnb that stands out more than the Cuckoo brow. We headed out on Saturday morning for a peruse around Grasmere, followed by a walk we had planned close by. On arrival to Grasmere village car park, I came to pay for the parking fee and noticed I had either forgotten or lost a considerable amount of cash I had in my pocket. Even before I could start a detailed search for my cash, my phone rang, and on answering, it was the receptionist from the Cuckoo brow to inform me that their daughter had found the cash on the floor of the car park and they would look after it until our return later in the day. Honesty of this level is, as we all know, unfortunately rare these days. I was very very impressed. Finally I would like to mention the food.... our breakfast was included and was a lovely varied menu with something for everyone 😋 and the Cumberland breakfast was just the best I have had for a long time. We also ate in the restaurant on Saturday evening and the food again was both delicious and at a lofty standard above the most others.

Great service and attention from the staff at all times. The evening food in the bar is great, classic British pub selections. Big portions and very tasty. Breakfast I was good and there was either a self service option or cooked alternatives. Beers at the bar were well kept. Location was fine - 10 mins from Hawkshead by car. 20 mins from Coniston or Ambleside. Close to Ferry for Bowness.

The bar had quite a lot of dog/ dog owners on a few occasions so if you don’t like dogs this may not be the best place to eat or stay. The room we had is a bit tired and could do with a bit of a spruce up. However, that’s the only negative thing I could say.

Our room was ready for us on arrival and we found it absolutely spotless, lovely bathroom and comfy beds. Unfortunately no view. Our evening meal was perfect and with a table alongside a window we were very happy. We had booked a five day stay, four nights, and the breakfasts were just what we wanted. Plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Perfect! This is a family run Inn and all were so eager to please. Genuinely happy to help; nothing was too much trouble. For the price of our stay the whole experience was lovely and we would highly recommend. Location wise, spot on. quiet location with very little passing traffic. Also less than two mile from the car ferry to Bowness which cut out the busy trip round the north end of the lake through Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness. A gift at £6.60.

There was absolutely nothing we disliked. The only comment we would make is that we found the evening meal menu a bit 'Pubish'and somewhat limited. We would have expected at least one item of Lamb on the menu after all we were in Cumbria and the hills were smothered in sheep and lambs! We must say we have not tasted better Sirloin steak for many a year than the steak we had on the Thursday evening. Absolutely mouth watering!. We ate in all four nights of our stay and the meals provided were perfectly cooked and presented; we just wish there had been more choice.

The location is fantastic, right in the heart of the picturesque village of Far Sawrey, on the tranquil side of Windermere. Plenty of free parking. The ferry to Bowness is a short walk or drive away. The management and staff were wonderful, and made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was very good, with hot dishes cooked to order. In the evenings, the restaurant offers superior pub grub in pleasant surroundings, and the service is good. We loved that the dog could go everywhere with us, and that so many other guests had dogs, too. There was no noise at night, and we slept very well.

The room, though a good size, was a bit tired and dowdy, and needed a bit of love. One of the windows had no curtain or blind, and the bathroom fan was extremely noisy. There were no power sockets near the bed. The room was very hot at night, and the thick bedding quite unsuitable for summer. For the price paid, I expected better quality coffee and toiletries in the room. There was an additional charge of £15 per night per dog, yet (unlike at other dog-friendly hotels we've stayed at) absolutely nothing extra was provided. The restaurant is quite expensive for what is basically pub grub, and the limited menu didn't change from day to day.

An incredible place with amazing people running it. Food is amazing, staff couldn’t be more helpful and location is beautiful. Only a little walk to the ferry to see the more of the Lakes. We had an incident where we couldn’t find petrol station which led us to be out after 12am the manager called us to make sure we were ok and that we were coming back so he could have the front sore unlocked so we could get back to our room. Honestly amazing service. He didn’t seem bothered by it he genuinely seemed worried about us. It obviously shows he genuinely cares about the safety of his customers. We appreciated this so much. Again recommend coming here!!

Absolutely lovely, family run inn, in a perfect location. THe staff were all very kind and friendly, and they regularly greeted me by name. that personal touch was so nice. The room was wonderfully clean and the view I had from my window was superb - it was the forest, and every day I was awakened with the sounds of birdsong. There was a fantastic selection of included breakfasts, and the mauritian curry I had for dinner one night (an extra expense) was authentic and amazing - I would highly recommend trying it. All accomodations were answered with a smile, and teh fact that they are concerned about sustainability and locally sourced produce is a refreshing and delightful aspect of the inn. It was lovely to chat to the proprietress. I also loved the gallery on the walls - all the lovely pictures of dogs, and history of the place, as well as the suggestions for things to do in the area. All in all, it was a grand stay, for myself and my little rat girls (yes, they allowed me to bring my tiny pocket-puppies and cage!). The walk to the ferry is about 20 minutes through gorgeous woodland and along some beautiufl foot-paths, and the walk to Hill Top is about 15 minutes, and aside from a very short bit on the road, overwhelmingly safe and lovely.

nothing! It was just wonderful. I'm going to come back agian, and stay here.

Loved our stay at the Cuckoo Brow Inn. If you are looking for a quite secluded place to unwind in the Lake District, away from the touristy hustle and bustle of Windermere and Bowness you couldn't find a better place. Located on the quieter west side of Lake Windermere away from the noise and congestion of the east side, but only a short ferry ride away if you did wish to visit....briefly, The Cuckoo Brow is an ideal base to travel from with Beatrix Potter's Hill Top House also literally just down the road. Breakfast selection was ample to start the day off and the staff were friendly and attentive, and went the extra mile during to our stay as it coincided with our wedding anniversary and wife's birthday. Our room was spotless and spacious with a huge bed, and on suite that was clean and more than adequate. If a quiet location is what you are after we can easily recommend The Cuckoo Brow Inn.

Not a dislike but more in the way of advice to any potential guest's. You do need to be aware that if the bar is not busy it will close early. Came down from our room between 10.30 - 11pm on a Saturday night for some small savoury snacks and a drink but the bars was closed.

The Cuckoo Brow Inn is amazing it has character and history. The Inn is run by a family and every single one of them goes above and beyond. It was clean, the food was amazing and the staff beyond exceptional. While there it was my husband’s birthday and unbeknown to us the staff put up balloons, a banner and gave him some chocolates and then a surprise pudding with a candle after our meal. I would highly recommend Cuckoo Brow Inn to anyone.

There wasn’t really anything we didn’t like. But if you don’t drive then the inn is on the quiet side of Windermere and you would struggle to get around unless you are there just to walk and hike in that area.

Firstly, the welcome we received when we arrived, was really warm and friendly from this family run Inn. We requested a ground floor room for my Mum who finds stairs difficult - this was no problem. The rooms were super clean and well lit (which makes a change from most hotel rooms!) Good quality tea and coffee. The bar / restaurant area is lovely - Olde Worlde feel. There is also an outdoor area with tables and benches. We ate there in the evening - good, reasonably priced menu and all cooked perfectly. The service was amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast the following morning was also excellent - cooked freshly to order. I would thoroughly recommend a stay at this lovely, country Inn, not least for the amazing, friendly hosts.

I can honestly not think of a single thing we didn't like.
