Cute place to stay for a night. The beds were comfortable enough, and the bathroom was clean. A beautiful surrounding, with the castle right there. Breakfast was included, but we were directed to eat at a certain time, showed up, and they were 40 minutes late. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. And it was quite clean. The carpets need to be redone, but they were definitely kept clean.
It's not really worth the price, to be honest. It's a neat experience, but there is still some upkeep that is sorely lacking. The shower pressure was horrendous (in fairness, they did warn you about it with a small note under the tray table in the room...) The walls are very thin so we could hear our neighbour across the hall all evening. The breakfast was 40 minutes late and arrived with a hair in it.

I had long wanted to stay at Bickleigh Castle, for many years before being possible to book as a B&B guest. I have to say, it did not disappoint and was worth the wait! On arrival I was struck at just how pretty the setting is, pictures don't do the castle estate justice. It's a lot smaller than I had imagined, in an intimate way. Stepping into the courtyard, is like going back in time. Although Bickleigh is only a short hop from Tiverton, it's cocooned in the Exe Valley and hidden away, a million miles from the modern world. Just the place to turn off my phone, to disappear for a long weekend retreat. I stayed in the Tudor Room, and was delighted to be shown around by John, one of the owners. His passion for the castle's history is infectious, I loved all of the notes placed beside the artwork and in strategic places. The bed was superbly comfortable and wide enough to lay across, and not reach the edges (lovely quality bedding too). Being able to walk around the property at night, is a big draw. When the public has gone, and most people are in bed, I like to wonder and soak up the atmosphere. Bickleigh has a lot to share. Sitting in the hall, in candlelight, it's easy to allow yourself to picture how it might have been, hundreds of years ago. Not much different I expect. The lack of road noise, and the blissful peace and quiet was heavenly. Breakfast was superb. I've stayed in many top notch hotels, castles, and the like; the full English here was by far the best yet. Everything was cooked perfectly, and everything was tasty. I'm not one for continental breakfasts, but I was enticed by strawberries, raspberries and a fresh croissant from the oven. Superb, and great table service too. When Monday morning came, I was loathed to leave. I was delighted to meet Sarah on my out, the owner, and to join her for a spot of rose pruning. I departed with cuttings I'll treasure as a reminder of a wonderful visit.
That I had to return to reality!

Very friendly and helpful host. Our room was wonderful. Two enormous double beds which were very comfortable. The ensuite was clean and had a good shower. The room had adequate supply of teas and coffee with biscuits and the breakfast was delivered on time with the best croissants ever. Historic and atmospheric location with the castle and surroundings. It was easy to find and to park. There is a decent pub with meals available right by the river just 5 minutes drive or, if you are brave enough to chance the narrow lanes with no paths, a 10 to 15 minute walk.
I can not think of anything that we did not like but we were very lucky that, during the time we stayed, we were the only guests so had 100% attention, privacy and peacefulness.

Room was clean, comfortable and very spacious. Hosts were friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area and where to visit. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and nothing was too much trouble when we ordered a cooked breakfast late. Hot tub, trampoline and more were available to us as activities to enjoy if staying on site which was great, the recommended eateries were spot on and the 3 we tried we would definitely go to again. We would definitely stay at Bickleigh Castle again.
Would love it if an evening meal menu was available, especially as breakfasts were so good!

Wonderful surroundings and beautifully quiet. It is quite rustic with a little magic thrown in.
Could be clearer as to what facilities are available. For instance, it suggests that inflatables for the river are available but this isn't the case, you would need to bring your own. Likewise, the tour currently only available on Thursdays, it would have been helpful to know this prior to arriving so as to avoid some initial disappointment.

The breakfast was good. The ability to walk around the entire grounds of the castle was great. Having a family game of tennis at no extra cost was also good fun. My daughter absolutely loved staying in the four poster bedroom in the castle. It exceeded her expectations. John giving us a guided tour after breakfast and telling us about the history of the castle was interesting and fascinating. A special mention to Wendy as well who was very helpful indeed when I called the week before the stay.
There was nothing I would say I did not like, but understandably they operate with a lean number of staff and there is no receptionist so 'checking in' and 'checking out' was not particularly smooth. Some people will need to be reminded that this is a Grade 1 listed building that was built centuries ago, so you will have to make do with some of the en-suites being outside of the rooms.

A fabulous stay in a picturesque location. It was a lovely quiet spot and the castle was great to see. Our room was nice and big and the kids had their own singe beds which was great. John recommended a few restaurants to us and we had a nice dinner in the local village. John gave us a tour of the castle which was great. The kids loved the weapons rooms. A wonderful experience, highly recommend.
The only issue was that we were there on a warm day and the heater / radiator still came on in the room at night, which made it very warm. We opened the windows though a fan would have been great (or the heater not to come on 😊). Other than that, everything was wonderful.

LOVED THE CASTLE AND THE SURROUNDING GARDENS . THE RELAXED ATMOSPHERE AND THE FRIENDLY SERVICE. LOVED THE ROOM AND THE BATHROOM, JUST HAD TO HET USED TO THE HESVEY DOORS THAT TENDED TO SLAM BUT OTHERWISE ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERYTHING FROM WALKING AROUND THE CASTLE AND GARDENS TO FALLING INTO BED AT NIGHT AND STRAIGHT INYO DEEP SLEEP 😴
Maybe the heavy fire doors and creaking floors but LOVED the authenticity

Absolutely stunning property steeped in history. If I hadn't have been travelling for work I would have spent more time exploring. The owner who greeted us was a lovely fellow - very helpful during our stay and even sorted us out with a delicious continental breakfast, earlier than normal, to accommodate for our busy working schedule. I did have a bit of a problem in my room with hot water, but it was sorted immediately and it in no way gave me any bad feelings towards the place. Thanks so much, hopefully see you again soon.
Nothing.
