This was my first time staying in a hostel, and honestly, Some Place Else exceeded every expectation—it was even better than staying at a hotel. The entire space is modern, clean, and clearly designed with love and attention to detail. As a solo traveler, I often feel a bit lonely on the road, but that wasn’t the case here. The hostel offers social activities every night, making it super easy to meet people. I made friends by my second night! It’s truly a great place to connect with other travelers from all over the world. The beds were comfortable and spotless, with great lighting and excellent air quality. Bathrooms and showers are ALWAYS clean, with hot and cold water available around the clock. Despite the social atmosphere, the vibe was calm and relaxing when you needed downtime. I especially loved the co-working space, kitchen and rooftop—perfect spots to unwind alone or hang out with new friends. The location is also ideal, right in the heart of Georgetown. I’m already planning to come back just to stay here again. Can’t recommend it enough—Some Place Else is a gem!

Wow. Best hostel I’ve experienced in Malaysia- by a LONG WAY. Amazing staff and interesting fellow travellers to share stories and ideas with in three areas to socialise: the downstairs work/eating area, the rooftop kitchen and table, and the rooftop seating area. A beautiful spacious modern building perfectly situated in the historic old city. For me, a big YES was the crisp clean air in the soundproof 36-bed mixed dormitory, the spacious downstairs workspace, the big clean showers and toilets, and the suitably equipped kitchen on the rooftop for making own meals and saving some cash on my 10 week trip through Malaysia. Cold and hot drinks water on tap at two dispensers. An army of staff and volunteers were constantly at work keeping the floors spotless. Brilliant management of making the stay comfortable, clean, and safe. Kudos to all involved. Large two-shelved lockers outside the dorms made keeping things tidy easier. Excellent value for money. I am highly unlikely to try anywhere else if I am in Penang again. An 11/10!

The shower/toilet area was noticeably warmer without aircon but totally acceptable considering how expensive aircon is financially and to the environment. The shower tiles were shiny and slick. I wonder about user safety when wet.

I had an amazing stay at this backpacker hostel in Penang! The location is absolutely perfect, just a short walk to numerous attractions, restaurants, and bars. It made exploring the city incredibly convenient. The bed was super comfy, ensuring a great night’s sleep after a day of adventures. The common area is spacious and comfortable, perfect for relaxing or socializing. There’s always something fun happening every night, from movie nights and pool tournaments to live acoustic performances, making it easy to meet fellow travelers and enjoy the community vibe. The real standout is the staff. Every one of them was incredibly welcoming and friendly, going out of their way to make sure guests feel at home. Their hospitality truly enhanced the experience, and it’s a big reason why I’d return to this hostel the next time I visit Penang. It’s a wonderful hostel with a perfect mix of comfort, activities, and exceptional service. Highly recommend!

If I had to mention a downside, it would be that the aircon plus fans in the common area can get a bit too chilly 😅

I really loved the view from the dormitory, the friendly staff (I forgot her name—she's cute and wears glasses), and there was also one cute guy who sings Chinese songs so beautifully; I think he's one of the staff too. The environment was clean and quiet, and the rooftop view at night was amazing. It was also quite lively—there were a lot of activities happening at night, but I couldn’t join because I had my own plans. Overall, I loved it and wish I could’ve stayed longer! :)

Super nice brand new Hostel, the beds, staff, public area is prefect and really worth for the price that i pay. The Host Aaron also very friendly and helpful.

Great location - in the middle of the old town, close to street foods and many bars and restauranst. You can discover main Georgetown points by the walk. It is located in the quiet street so you don't hear any music or noise from the neighbourhood. Rooms are very spacious with good and comfortable beds and air conditioning working all the time. Everyone gets access to safe locker where you can put all your luggage.

Given the number of beds, the number of available toilets and showers is very low.

This is my favorite hostel in Georgetown! You can’t beat the location — just a two minute walk to the bar street and bustling restaurant area. The cleanliness here is also impeccable. I constantly saw staff sweeping and cleaning to make sure the facilities stayed clean and sand-free. The place is brand new and only opened about a month ago, so the facilities, beanbags, and stuff were super comfortable and new. The common area was really bright and comfortable with lots of tables for socializing, perfect for meeting fellow travelers!

One of the best hostels I ever stayed. Extremely friendly staff, everything very clean, dorm (the big one) was nice (though some guests just don't know how to behave in hostels during quiet time - but yeah, welcome to a traveller's life lol), the beds are comfy, the showers are big and there is always something nice going on such as open mics and movie nights.The lobby is a nice place to mingle and to just chill. And the kitchen on the rooftop is a plus. Thanks for everything. Especially to Aina 💛

The hostel is super comfortable. The dorms are quiet, dark with good curtains, clean and fresh (ac). The whole hostel gets cleaned multiple times per day. The social vibe is good, not a party hostel (but located just behind the street with the bars), but some activities like trivia, movie night are organized. They also provide suggestions and maps on what to do (there's a lot to do around!) I stayed for nearly 2 weeks 😋😋 I would come back here next time!

It is a very nice aesthetic place to stay as a solo traveller, most importantly, very cool place to connect with people around the world, mostly of your age group. The staff member was kind enough to take my bag up the stairs in front of my bed. There is a kitchen at the rooftop, it gives really coay vibes. I loved it! Every food market is close to this place, I walked two minutes straight from the hotel and ended up on a falafel began wrap cafe at 1 am. The other time, I went to a place called little india, the food was really good there as well.
