I recently stayed at Yeng Keng Hotel for an impromptu 3D2N staycation in George Town, Penang, with my sister. Our main goal was to explore the local food scene, and this charming heritage hotel made the experience even more delightful. 1) Heritage Charm in Excellent Condition Yeng Keng Hotel lives up to its claims. It's a small yet tranquil and peaceful hotel despite being situated right on Chulia Street, one of the busiest areas. The heritage atmosphere is well-preserved, and the property is impeccably maintained. 2) Prime Location for Food Lovers The hotel is within walking distance of a variety of delicious restaurants and street food vendors. Even better, there are plenty of nearby pubs with live bands, perfect for winding down in the evening. 3) Exceptional Service The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay, always ready with a smile and eager to assist. 4) Great Security Measures As the hotel faces the bustling Chulia Street, the main entrance is secured with a metal gate, controlled by a friendly security guard. This added layer of security ensures that only guests can access the hotel, maintaining a peaceful environment, especially at night. 5) Breakfast Though our stay was short, the breakfast exceeded our expectations. We appreciated the focus on quality over quantity, and the sambal on the traditional banana leaf nasi lemak was a standout! Overall, we were thrilled to have chosen this heritage boutique hotel over the usual 5-star international brands. Highly recommended, and I’m already planning my next stay!

The hotel was so beautiful. The beds and linen felt super luxurious. The staff were amazing - super helpful. I asked for a few recommendations for dinner and got a whole page of great restaurants and places to see! Nothing seemed too difficult for any of the staff. Beautiful old style place that has been renovated, great location in the heart of Georgetown with everything in walking distance! Would definitely recommend staying here.

-Every staff member I met was genuinely kind and enthusiastic, always offering help and thoughtful travel advice without being asked. Their warmth felt sincere and constant throughout my three-day stay, which made me and my friend feel truly welcomed and cared for. -The welcome drink — a light brown juice with a lovely balance of sweet, sour, and a hint of spice — surprised me. I loved it, and was even more delighted when they told me it was nutmeg, a traditional local drink. -The hotel is right in the heart of George Town — about a 10-minute walk to the sea, the Peranakan Mansion, and blocks full of unique little shops. -Our room had the charm of the old world with the comfort of modern amenities. It really felt like “sleeping with the past.” -Breakfast wasn’t extensive, but every dish was delicious.

Just a heads-up for those who might care about these details: -The sink was a bit low and the counter space was tight, so I ended up doing my skincare at the desk. Not a big deal, just a bit inconvenient. -There’s music from nearby pubs at night, but it wasn’t too loud or annoying, and I still slept well.

Good location on Chulia St within walking distance to restaurants cafes bars and attractions. The hotel has an old world charm and lovely decor. Very clean room with safe, writing desk and good shower. Great security with 24 hour front desk. Lots of maps and brochures of Georgetown and main attractions were available which were very helpful. Breakfast was included which featured cereals, eggs, yoghurt, fruit, toast/jam etc, roti and some curries. Also a selection of Nyonya snacks and sweets. The coffee machine was popular. The pool looked clean with step access although we didn't use it. We made use of the 24 hour laundry service which was efficient. We had a ground floor room so request this if you need it as there is no lift. There was also fresh drinking water facilities in the courtyard for hotel guests - much appreciated. Staff were friendly and arranged a taxi to the airport for us on the last day. There are free shuttle bus routes around Georgetown so look for these on the maps.

Ensure you request a ground floor room if needed as there are no elevators. The mattress and pillows were quite firm. We had a large bed but there was no bedside table on my side. The roads/paths around the hotel are quite uneven so watch your step. Hats/sunglasses are essential for walking due to the midday heat.

Location! Cozy.

Our room’s window faced the swimming pool, which opened at 7 am. So what could I say to the lady with a small child swimming and making noIses that woke me up before 8 am when she pointed out that my room faced the swimming pool and that her kid was 3 1/2 years old? The room was nicely appointed but small - impossible to have 2 cabin suitcases opened at the same time, not even on the floor. Breakfast options were rather limited.

We stayed three nights at this wonderful hotel in the heart of George Town's historic district. The facilities were great, the rooms were very comfortable and the hotel is very beautifully preserved. The location was probably the best feature- as everything was a short walk away. The Blue Mansion, Kimberley street and Armenian street, the jetty- all within walking distance. The breakfast was also quite good.

The bathrooms didn't have exhaust fans (which was truly a minor issue). Everything else was great!

The rooms were clean and mostly comfortable, aircons worked well and staff were lovely!!! The pool was a nice temperature, and while the pool was broken for a couple days, it was fixed quite quickly. Front of the hotel was also very pretty.

The breakfast was the same every day and didn’t have much variety, so it got slightly tiresome after a couple of mornings. Fine if you’re only staying a couple of nights, but possibly not for people staying longer than that.

I had a great stay at Yeng Keng. I would like to shout out to the staff for their friendliness and incredible service. Location was good for exploring Georgetown on foot. Room was clean and comfortable, albeit small. Breakfast selection was sufficient, loved the ambiance of the restaurant. As this is a heritage building, residents of rooms on first floor can hear footsteps of those on second floor, you may wish to take note if you are a light sleeper.

We had a great stay in a beautiful hotel. The staff were great and so helpful and pleasant. The breakfast was delicious with a variety of offerings. Lots of areas to sit and relax and soak up the atmosphere.

Jalan Chulia where the hotel is located can become quite busy with cars and people. It's mainly bars, hawker stalls and restaurants. Venture to other streets like Jalan Armenian for quieter and more pleasant ambling with more shopping. Other streets also have more interesting and quieter restaurants.

The property felt like we were experiencing true Penang. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast set us up well for a day exploring Penang. The location made it easy to access the heart of Penang.

Preparation of our room type despite prior communication and assurance was not reliable but was sorted on our arrival. It is a slightly noisy location late into the evening and early morning. We were disappointed that a "courtyard room" did not mean a courtyard view but rather a small window view of the car park at the back of the hotel. The bathroom lacks good ventilation.
