When I accidentally came across this hotel, I was surprised and immediately felt that I would experience an authentic atmosphere. I'm not an expert, but I would say the interior in room is authentically designed in a 1970s style. Minimalism. The bed, floor lamp, and air conditioner were the only things that were not from that era. I'm quite sure that the ceiling fan and the chair at the desk are originals from that time. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. Downstairs, there is an antique shop/exhibition/café where you can also buy postcards. Very cozy. I didn't even mind that the shower and toilet were outside on the second floor.

Not suitable for long-term stays or for working, but overall, I have nothing bad to say.

location, location and location!

What a beautiful hotel with so much charm and character. Loved staying at Moon Tree. The owner and staff are quite welcoming. The location and value for money are fantastic. The little cafe at the hotel and adorable cat is a bonus.

As others have mentioned, the rooms don't have good sound proofing, so be sure to pack some ear plugs. A small price to pay though as the pros outweigh the cons

Location, ambience, cleanliness.

Washroom and sound proofing can be better.

- The staff are nice and warm. - There is a cafe on the 1st floor where guests can rest and sit to eat or read. It's quite relaxing. - The location is good as it's in the city center and basically you can walk to any tourist attractions within 10 mins.

- there is not so much soundproof stuff, which means you might hear people talking on the street, other guests playing music in the next room, people talking downstairs...Etc - shower and toilet are outside of the house. It might be a bit inconvenient if it's raining outside.

We had a nice stay at MoonTree. The accomodation is truly something special and we loved the spacious room and garden. The location is great and you’re right in the centre of everything. Kent is a lovely host and gave us the best tips where to eat and what to visit.

Since it is a very old building the walls are very thin and it is is not completely closed off which means you can hear everything from the other rooms and there is a lack of privacy. It is fine for a few days, but after spending a week it was getting annoying. I would definitely recommend bringing some earplugs. The bathroom could be cleaned better.

This is my second stay at Moon Tree this year. Have always enjoyed the vibe. The room is value for money and brings one back to the 50s/60s. It's nostalgic. The staff, Nur and owner Kent are very friendly. Always enjoyed striking up a conversation with Kent who is very hospitable and an excellent host. He has a wealth of information on Penang. It was nice to be back at Moon Tree. 👍👍👍👍👍

Amazing heritage house with lots of character and lush vegetation just steps from Love Lane, Chulia Street and loads of restaurants. If you are an easygoing type who can appreciate a quaint home stay feel and the unique character of a heritage house and are not put off by sharing a somewhat rustic shower and toilet with other guests, you’ll love it.

A little more upkeep here and there would make this place much more comfortable

I loved the experience of staying at the MoonTree. It was definitely special. I felt that I was back in time. I'm a lover of vintage so I loved the decoration and the stairs to the upper floor. It gave a mystical sense. The location was great right next to all the restaurants and cafes but far enough from the noise.
