We wanted an affordable option in the north of Wales to use as a base to explore the area and the Menai Hotel really fulfilled all our needs. The room was big for the two of us and it was serviced when we asked the staff to do so. We had to fill in a sheet breakfast the day before. There was both cooked and uncooked food and everything went according to what we asked for. We had to leave early on our last day and they prepared a "packed breakfast" for us. The staff were welcoming and friendly. During our stay everything was very quiet and we could have a very nice sleep.

There could be some more light both in the bathroom and the room and the water pressure could be a bit stronger, but these are really minor issues considering the overall experience.

Good value, large clean room with TV and the Tea/Coffee making in the room was very generous. Bath with Shower in the On-suite. Bar down stairs was very accomodating and handy for a few drinks. Tables laid up for breakfast by room number and cooked breakfast was very welcome. Good service by all staff.

Shower pressure on second floor was little low, but temperature easy to control and we could shower. SatNav didn't cope with the one way roads so suggest having a look ahead and have an idea for best route to find Hotel. It was easy from the main road if only the Satnav had gone that way.

Bathroom was fine, very clean, obviously recently refurbished - though ceiling still requires some repair attention. Breakfast room, sufficed, it was clean and bright to sit in.

Breakfast crockery requires some attention, e.g larger plates for toast to be easily buttered on. And tea to be served in teapots rather than just a small teacup.

Staff were very friendly and even though the room was a little dated, it was clean and comfortable. The bar was lively on a night time, however I couldn't hear it from our room on the top floor. The breakfast (which was pre ordered) was very good with a selection of Toast, Pastries, Yoghurts, Fruit and Cooked Food plus drinks.

The only concerns I had were the shower wasn't very powerful and the toilets in the bar area needed a bit of maintenance

So don’t be put off, yes it’s a bit dated and the decor could so with a freshen, buts its value for money and the staff are brilliant, so we had the triple room (10) a trio of windows like the bridge of a ship give a view across the Menai straight and on the day we were there a beautiful sunset, the two windows either side tilt open and allow the room to ventilate beautifully and the evening we stayed as it rained in the middle of the night, that sleeping, cosy comforting sound of soft summer rain, made the sleep very cosy. The beds were basic but comfy, nice mattress, great pillows, nice clean duvets, fresh white towels, free toiletries soap, shampoo and body wash, the over bath shower was not an Amazon shower, but you can wash, tea, coffee, even green tea, milk all provided and on top of that a continental and cooked breakfast pre ordered the night before and all served to your table in the main bar in the morning, in all don’t expect the ritz but you’ll be happy and happier when you see the price, also free parking right outside the front door !

Bit dated in decor, lights could be brighter and shower stronger

Initial impressions very poor but never judge a book by its cover, from the outside looked not so good, I'm not a drinker so bar didn't bother me but people seemed to be enjoying it there, sports on tv, pool tables, a band on (sounded pretty good did a good version of Mr brightside), hired in mini golf ⛳️ the second night we were there so all grand it's a bar people happy out. The accommodation was the surprise after initially thinking i would be booking somewhere else for the night, the room was immaculate (little dated maybe) but really clean and comfortable, spotless linen on the beds, clean carpet, any amount of tea and coffee what more do you need it's a place to lay your head and lay my head comfortably I did no frills but job done, en suite again clean and towels spotless and fresh no more than that needed, on to the breakfast (only had one morning because of commitments early but my family had two mornings) really nice (probably not m&s produce but that's reflected in the price of your stay, remember peeps if you don't pay to stay in the ritz then don't be expecting Gordon ramsay to cook your breakfast) could not fault it again really tasty, Cooked nicely, my son loved the toast, my wife the bacon, decent cup of coffee overall really good, the man in the bar, reception, kitchen, (yes one man working his ass off apologies I didn't get your name) decent fella very helpful to our needs doing a great job well done. Would I stay again?? Indeed I would no problem. Hope if you read this you enjoy your stay also. Remember don't judge the cover.

The location is excellent, Bed linen, towels, toiletries all provided. Able to make coffee/tea in room. Beautiful view. Good sized family room. The breakfast exceeded expectations - lovely. Good value.

Bed linen and towels were spotlessly clean and good quality. Unfortunately the bathroom was not 100% clean with hairs around the bathtub. Although the rooms are above a busy pub, there is a separate entrance and the noise settled down by late evening.

We stayed over Easter break. 13 min walk from Bangor station and although middle of town, its quite and peaceful place. Check-in was prompt and easy. We had our own key for the front door, so we did not have to go through the pub. The room was comfortable, with plenty of tea and coffee and if you need more you can ask. They clean rooms by request during your stay. We did not want it. Everything is in working condition, there is a bath or shower option. Again, you can ask for more shampoo or body wash or towel.Bed is so comfortable. You request breakfast every day for the next morning. Good choice of cooked or continental breakfast. Staff is pleasant and helpful. We do recommend it.

Friday night , there was karaoke, but the owner let us know it would finish @ 12 a.m., and it did. Some noise from other guests but nothing that would hotel could do anything about it or bother us.

The whole stay was pleasurable. Our Host was very attentive. He was very knowledgeable about food allergy's, for us one of our group has Coeliacs disease and his diet has to be gluten free. Our host made sure breakfast was gluten free providing alternatives. But also the best breakfast I've had when staying anywhere. When we entered our room it smelt of freshly laundered linen. The room was warm and the beds comfortable. Perfect.

Bedside lights would have been useful.

I liked the good atmosphere in the Menai Hotel. I travelled alone due to my husbands work commitments, even though travelling alone was slightly daunting I was welcomed by the staff and put at ease on arrival. All the Hotel, Bar and Housekeeping staff where friendly and helpful and a credit to the Hotel.The Hotel is close to all amenities Restaurants/Take aways/Supermarkets and also offers food. I enjoyed my morning breakfast which set me up for the day. The Hotel was easy walking distance to The Menai Bridge and the old Victorian Garth Pier which I enjoyed visiting and I fought a fear by both crossing the Bridge and walking the Pier, so Proud of myself. I even ventured to the Hotel Bar for Kareoke night on Friday that was very busy and I had lots of fun. Overall I had an amazing couple of days recharging my batteries.

I found the door staff let the Hotel team down, very unfriendly, however, only saw them once when going to the Bar on the Friday night so that was a good thing. Maybe a little chat there way is required.
