Small country village away from it all. Very peaceful and quiet area. Staff were so friendly throughout our stay. The room we had was on yhe ground floor, very spacious with a large walk in shower. Hotel bar, restaurant was good with good choice of food and drink. We were there for just one night but would be ideally located for anyone wanting more nights to your around. Not far from Castle Hiward and Nunnington Hall, as well as the local larger villages, Sutton Bank and Scarborough. Highly recommended.

Difficult to find fault. It's not 5 star so if you are looking for that then go elsewhere but if you are looking for down to earth, good friendly accommodation then this would fit into anyones budget. Restaurant is small and limited space so book ahead of your visit. Small restaurant though means a more intimate service. Can't find fault with the staff or the pub/accommodation.

Comfortable bed. Some staff very helpful and knowledgable Excellent portions for the price though they could do with being slightly smaller cant grumble because it did taste amazing Tv hardly had any channels and unresponsive-no subtitles or teletext/red buttom news

Shame the positioning meant you could see into adjacent room and hear them. Some staff could do with communication training. Orange juice at breakfast was cordile/squash not proper breakfast orange juice Pillows were just a bit too much for us personally but aware many would prefer 2 deep pillows

Lovely old character inn with really nice recently refurnished accommodation. We stayed for one night and booked a room (Willow) which was in the property next door to the pub. Really spacious and clean and finished to a high standard. Ate in the pub and food was excellent and staff really nice. Breakfast was very nice too, we had a cooked breakfast that you pre-order the night before. Good value and good location.

Nothing at all that we didn’t like but a couple of comments: The shower in the room was superb but it could have been a bit hotter. Having moved the dial past the ‘click point’ to increase the heat, it never got to a point where you were having a hot shower. Didn’t understand why the cutlery at breakfast was roughly scrunched and wrapped in a paper napkin? Everything else was presented so nicely and this was just odd and scruffy. Just leave a folded napkin with the cutlery presented on it or next to it.

Excellent pub with lovely food and friendly staff. Room was good with a comfortable bed and pillows. Good selection of tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Bathroom soap, shower gel etc provided too. We ate there both evenings and the food was very good. Great breakfast. Weather and surroundings were fabulous.

Overall the room and facilities were very good. The only thing I didn't like was the nasty cheap toilet paper. Really need to invest in better quality (and it wouldn't take much) it really makes a difference!

A characterful, historic pub in a tranquil village. Welcoming and well presented room with a superb view out into fields and beyond. Comfy bed and excellent ensuite. Evening meal was really good. Nice to be able to take a pint back to my room ! All-in-all was a pleasureable stay and would be happy to stop by again

Breakfast was decent enough albeit I feel didn't quite live up to the standards of the evening meal - others may beg to differ. The bar and seating area does look a bit tired, although at the same time, perhaps a bit unfair to say this given the age and character of the property

The Riyal Oak is a lovely "oldy world pub" set in a countryside village with seating on the green infront of the premises. The staff that were helpful, friendly & polite. The room was clean & and comfortable, as was the bathroom with bath & walk-in shower. The evening menu was varied & the food excellent, including the breakfast. We would certainly recommend.

We couldn't stay longer.

Nothing - all positive

Excellent food the pub is a little gem. The rooms(Holly) are a good size large bathroom, clean comfortable good standard.

The staff at times were too busy to provide a good service, but they are local and friendly. The bathroom is spoilt by using cheap and poor quality loo paper. The rest of the room is great. Fabulous location in quiet village.

From arriving, the staff were fantastic, the room, although small had more than everything we needed, and was very comfortable anything else , just ask and they oblige, we ate in the dining room and the food was amazing, well worth the trip! breakfast was excellent as well, we were given a form to complete for what we wanted for breakfast, plenty of choice and all locally sourced.

Although they have a car park, if your driving, it is very small, 3 car spaces, but there is plenty of parking on the street outside the pub

The food was excellent, proper Yorkshire portions! The room was clean and comfortable. Best bit was sitting next to the open fire of an evening with a drink - utter contentment.

Rooms are a little tired, but are clean and comfortable. I understand that they are refurbishing the rooms this year. Don't let it put you off.
