March 2025

Stayed in Ye Olde Griffin for one night to do March parkrun on the Saturday morning. The hotel's location is excellent and right in the centre of the town, and is also only a couple of minutes walk away from the parkrun location. We had a twin room which was very nice, modern, clean and spacious, and we could not fault the room at all. We also had an evening meal and breakfast the following morning. Both of which were incredibly good and very reasonably priced, and it was great that breakfast is served until 12pm. All of the staff we spoke to were very friendly and welcoming, and definitely went above and beyond. Free onsite parking was also available. Overall we were extremely satisfied with Ye Olde Griffin and would highly recommend to anyone staying in March.

Room was spacious & twin beds comfy. Large bathroom & clean/modern facilities. Shower worked well. Handy free parking to the rear of the property - need a permit from reception. The room had most of what I needed & I enjoyed the complimentary biscuits. I didn't hear any noise coming from the bar & restaurant downstairs. Nice location in the heart of the town nearby to shops. I'd stay here again.

I couldn't find a WiFi code anywhere, which was a slight hindrance as needed to join business calls - instead had to tether. It was unclear about the parking permit at first. Traffic noise quite loud but appreciate it's a quirky period property.

Very comfortable bed and clean! The windows have secondary glazing which makes it nice and quiet but best of all you can open the windows for a bit of fresh air!! Staff was very accommodating of requests. They were on restricted hours for Christmas day which was completely understandable. It was a very nice suprise to open the door and see a basket with extra towels and replenishments for the tea/coffee tray for the next morning! Thank you!

Shower head was a trickler.... there was fine water pressure and water was hot but the cold water didn't come out of the shower head enough to cool the very hot water.

The room was very nice we booked here because it said there was a DJ on,on a Friday night but have since been told they no longer have DJ Friday night food was good breakfast was very good but the plates should of been warmed before being served on The stairs up to the room were very steep but I suppose it's within keeping of the age of the building. But each step sloped as well which made them feel strange under foot

The shower in our room was not very powerful at all but was told they would get that sorted must be a fault with the plumbing.

Parking was great, room was ok, apart from we booked a family room and we requested a quiet room to which we where told the only quiet room wasn’t a family room as they aren’t in the quiet end of the pub so they moved us to a double room with a camp bed which was ok, but we wasn’t offered any kind of reimbursement due to room change from a family to just a double? What I will say is even though there was a late night disco we didn’t hear a thing until the morning when either guests on top floor or staff where walking about in heavy boots, oh and the room nextdoor every time they needed a pee we heard it very, very clearly 😭 staff where excellent and very attentive, welcoming and helpful when planned table was located in front of tv for football match we requested, any questions about the menu was answered some even with a sample and food was great, possibly could do with a few more chips on plate and a side salad or house-slaw. 😬

As above mentioned.

Super comfy bed, brilliant friendly team who made us so welcome and made everything very easy for us. Beautiful meal in the pub for remarkable value . They made our dog very welcome. We will 100% be back to stay. We were told it can be loud with music but in room 11 we could not hear the music and they thoughtfully closed the beer garden at 11pm even though the pub remained open until 2am.

We had room 11 at the bottom of a second flight of stairs and there were either guests or team members walking up and down the stairs and being very loud and vocal all night until 2am . This may not be the hotels fault though so it has not effected our review score. If this was the hotel staff, they may need to be mindful of there disturbing guests at the late hour.

Upon arrival it was busy but I was advised by two staff members they would be with me ASAP within 5 mins all sorted. I was shown to my room.( my sister followed on later) I knew upon initial booking that a late night DJ was performing from 2200-0200hrs so requested quiet rooms. We had rooms 9 and 10 and tbh could not hear any music at all We stayed inhouse to eat and found the service not only to be fast but also with a smile and request do we need anything else after each course. Food and drink were good quality and very reasonably priced. If back in the area in the future we would not hesitate to re book.

The car park signage for guests needs to be clearer as its a Pay and Display car park (Pay and Display signage is very prominent ) but the signage for guests is on the 5th line down in a much smaller font advising a voucher will be handed to you to display upon checking in. Admittedly the car park to Hotel is only 50m around the corner (so not visible from reception)but as many will be aware Parking attendants swoop in and ticket in the blink of an eye.

I was warned about the late night music so the ear plugs in the room was a nice touch. Even though the Euros Final was on there was very little noise during my Sunday to Friday stay. Breakfast was good and staff were flexible with the cooked option. The staff across the property were excellent particularly the main hotel staff who were cheerful, informative and helpful especially when I got home 120 miles away I realised I'd left my Ipad behind. It arrived safely 4 days later. Thanks

Not a fan of constant ambient music in the pub but at least it was a good selection!

It’s a lovely old property with a lot of history. Really friendly helpful staff that make everyone welcome. Impeccably clean. Good tasty food to eat. Felt very comfortable and safe as a solo female and again all the staff were really helpful and friendly.

The door at the top of the stairs bangs there is no slow closure on it and as my room was near these doors I could hear it and it woke me up. also could hear the disco downstairs on the Saturday night I was warned on arrival and ear plugs were supplied.

The Griffin was a really nice place to stay, the room was spacious and the bed very comfy, we stayed on a Saturday night so got to experience the late night disco, but we went to bed about 11.30pm and although it stays on till 2am it did not keep us awake the doormen were good at making sure everyone vacated the beer garden at 11pm so as not to disturb the guests. The place had a really nice feel about it and we felt welcome, I would happily stay here again.

There is nothing I could complain about to be fair, it was a nice stay.
