This place is absolutely unique. Very rare type of luxury. Don't expect huge flat screen TVs, latest tech etc. - this is much better than that. Located in the heart of Sassi, this place offers authenticity, large doses of subtle luxury, and impeccable hospitality of the staff members. It is hard to find accommodation like this - even harder to find one, where hospitality and professionalism of the staff matches the premises. Breakfast is superb, offering large options of top quality local produce. Cleanliness of the rooms and frequency of cleaning is top notch - you even wonder when and how they do it. Very luxurious, yet subtle and cozy. Unmatched setting and surroundings. Huge respect to the vision, hard work, attitude and hospitality of all the staff members. 100/10 would recommend, hope to come back soon.

A perfect location! Our suite was stunning - a unique experience.
The service was below expectations. Breakfast on the terrace delicious and with a stunning view. BUT: Dirty glasses in the room were not cleaned, the morning tea cups were still there when we came back in the evening. When I inquired for some milk to put in the fridge, the reception was helpful - no problem - just the milk never came. We ordered- the day before - the shuttle to the parking at 11:00. The shuttle was there, but our luggage was not picked up in time. Would we stay here again? YES! But how can a hotel like this have a highly qualified reception, a unique location (and the corresponding prices) and such a disappointing service?

Sensational location, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. Matera is stunning but their spot, with the views out into the national park, truly special The staff are superb and incredibly attentive and kind. They could not have been more accommodating especially when we had an issue with our room. Design is gorgeous throughout, furnishing comfy, the whole place is a dream aesthetically speaking You feel good because by staying there you’re also preserving amazing history - the hotel is a conservation project
We got a bit unlucky with our room, 3, which was right next to reception and also a very loud ventilation device for the whole hotel. We moved after the first night because it was keeping us awake. Might not be a problem for everyone but was for us The breakfast is excellent, but the system with coffee and juice puts unnecessary pressure on the staff so they kept forgetting things or making mistakes. They insist on making every cup of coffee for you individually so it takes ages when it’s busy. Doesn’t make sense. They also blend all the juice fresh which is lovely but again takes forever and they forgot ours twice because they were overwhelmed.

Booked this as a fancier stay as part of our wider Italy trip and it didn't disappoint! Check in was a breeze, with a good tour and explanation of the site (a prior monastery!). Our room was impressive, set within a cave, very cosy and romantic with lots of candles. I suppose that the rooms differ greatly but we were thrilled with ours. Breakfast was incredible set within their candlelit restaurant, lots of variety of hot and cold foods, fruits and cakes. Location wise it had impressive views over the valley and was down the road from a number of great restaurants and cafes. As with any location in Matera, do expect a lot of steps!
Bed was a little hard, but we found that for all of the beds we stayed in in Italy.

The caves converted to modern rooms are well appointed with details remaining or reconstructed of the cave inhabitants. Soaker tub. Comfortable bed and bedding. Location offers a great view across the river looking at the park. Easy hiking access to park. All your needs are met with in walking distance.

What a gem of a hotel. So many wonderful nooks and crannies, bursting with history. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The hotel is in a fantastic location, serviced by a shuttle where you park your car and dismantle your cases. I can't recommend this hotel enough. Everything from start to finish was perfection, from the candlelit room and bathroom, to the cocktails we had under the vines, and to the breakfast which is one of the best spreads we've ever had (our group agreed the scrambled eggs were some of the tastiest we had ever had). Five stars from me. Grazie mille!

If I could give 100 stars I would. Our expectations were exceeded in every way possible. From check-in being a breeze, to the staff taking note of a message I had sent and wishing my Father happy birthday, to upgraded rooms for the occasion, everything was perfect. They shared the incredible history of the hotel and the property did an exquisite job rennovating the location to maintain its original features. Any question or ask that we had they answered immediately. The rooms were gorgeous, the baths were luxurious and all of the products on site were so nice. We booked the private dinner option and it was out of this world. The food was exquisite and the venue was remarkable. They went so out of their way to make our stay beyond what we could have ever expected. My only regret was not staying longer!

The breakfast was so incredibly delicious, fresh, beautiful, thoughtfully laid out, extensive and varied, healthy, and had original local freshly baked breakfast sweets. The location is a once and a lifetime experience. We also had a private trou of the city with an archeologist whose grandmother had lived in the caves until her 20s and just died at 94. The staff is very thoughtful and organized; they greatly respect the meaning of the history there. We love this place and will never forget it. We learned about history in a visceral way, sleeping a cave that goes back 8,000 years (now with a comfortable bed and running water and beautiful local fruit to great you. HIghly r3ecommend.
I have zero complaints.

This is a very interesting hotel, made up of a series of cave houses that have been very well modernized (while still retaining the original structures). The staff were excellent: friendly and very helpful (and clearly very motivated by the "mission" of rescuing these types of historical properties). The breakfast was very good. And Matera is an amazing city, in general.
You should not come to this hotel expected 4-star facilities that would not be appropriate with the retention of the historical features (eg., elevators, gyms, pool, A/C, etc.). Also, older visitors would have to be very careful with the very uneven surfaces.

We originally booked one of the cave rooms. We ended up changing. It just wasn’t for me. I think a great experience for maybe a night. But they are really damp and dark. You need a torch to see your suitcase. And we were traveling as an adult family so the open bathroom was an issue. The toilet was behind my son’s bed. And you have to keep your door open so you can get a bit of light in and people just walk in to have a look. Some people may love it but it wasn’t fun for me. So they switched us to a room in “the palace”. Up a lot of stairs but wow!!!! One of the most beautiful rooms I have ever stayed in. The view was spectacular. Loved every second of it
If you are gluten free there are not a lot of options. Breakfast was really good just no breads etc I advised the hotel before I came to check if options were available and was told no problem. But at breakfast I was given a gluten free chocolate muffin I took this with us and when I opened both of them from the two breakfasts they were both covered in mold. I think really out out of date
