First of all a big shoutout to the staff. From the moment you arrive, they are so welcoming and make you feel at home. During the check-in, we received a welcome drink and got very detailed information about the hotel, the neighborhood, food we needed to try, … Everytime when we left the hotel or arrived, the staff was ready to do a little chat and asked where we were going or what we did that day. The rooms were spacious, clean and very charming. Every afternoon, we were surprised with a new homemade afternoon snack in the fridge.

Only remark is that the airconditioning is an old system and because of that, it can take some time to cool the room.

All of the wooden floors (it's an old building remember) creak a lot when you walk across them. I felt bad for the people below us as they would have had a noisy time. Also, as it's an older building, noise insulation is quite poor, so you'll likely hear other rooms and people walking up the stairs and in the corridor. I'm quite sensitive to noise so I just used ear plugs.

The hosts and employees were really lovely and welcoming. We got good recommendations for the city. The hotel itself is a gem, beautifully designed and full of charm (don't forget to have an aperitif on the terrace). Also, there was a little surprise from the chef in the fridge at the end of every day. Breakfast is in the nice Italian restaurant downstairs (Michelin recommended) which offers a good variety of a la card options to start your day. The location in the middle of the old town is perfect to explore by foot.

Very good breakfast with plenty of choice. Location was good for old town sights, with everything walkable and plenty of places to eat nearby. Staff were very helpful with suggestions of where to visit and how to get there. Room was very clean, and a lot of effort was taken to make sure this was the case. We had lots of reports from other travellers in other hotels who said cleanliness was a problem elsewhere. Daily home made cake was a nice touch, as was the regular refill of iced tea.

Room was very dark as it was not possible to open the shutters on the windows.

The welcoming and friendly staff is the best part of my stay, from the receptionists who recommended me local food to eat for almost every meal, to Mr. Lin who is like a loving Chinese uncle who gave me rec for Durian and always wanted to make sure I felt comfortable with the temperature in the lounge area, to the staff at the Italian restaurant who remembered which wine I enjoyed the night before. I enjoyed the interior decor and layout of the hotel too, as well as the complimentary fresh ice tea and desserts given to me daily in my fridge.

The staff were very helpful and accommodation. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable. Geroge Town is a very walkable city, and the accommodation is located in a location which is just a short walk from Love Lane, etc. After telling the receptionist that it was our first time in Penang, he gave us a few maps, useful tips, and recommendations around the city. Will definitely come back to Penang and stay at Campbell House again. Thank you again to the team for being so helpful and accommodating. 😊

Heritage hotel in a central convenient location in the historic Georgetown. Rooms are rustic, well designed and comfortable. Love the tea/juice they provide in the fridge. The common area (especially the outdoor patio) is cozy. Staff are friendly. Great value for money, nothing to complain for the price it charges.

The hotel restaurant could do better. Also not the friendliest place for people with mobility issues due to the stairs. But again, nothing really to complain for the price.

We enjoyed the friendly and professional service, character of the hotel and central location. The hotel was clean, and furnished with what appeared to be restored pieces from the colonial period. We enjoyed the breakfast and dining in the Italian restaurant, which was attached to the hotel. It was a distinctive experience! One that we would be more than happy to repeat! We also liked the no-shoes policy upstairs, but would advice against descending the stairs in socks. We also grew to really like the sounds of life in the streets below.

Nothing really, but it was a bit of a culture 'shock' initially as we had been staying in modern hotels with expanses of glass. My first impression was that our room was a bit gloomy, but I was quickly seduced by its charm - shafts of light passing between shutters coloured by painted glass etc.

This boutique hotel offers a vintage, traditional house that feels cosy and caring for its small number of guests. The small hotel makes every guest feel welcome as there aren’t hundreds of guests at once. The staff were so welcoming as soon as we arrived, offering recommendations of where to visit, both well-known tourist attractions as well as some that only locals will know. The staff would come around while we had breakfast asking our plans for the day and providing suggestions to add on to our trip. The hotel restaurant was also provided such good food and drinks. All staff were really lovely and thank them for their kindness towards us every day. The rooms were old but well kept and felt a treat to get away from our modern lives in London. Sat in the heart of George Town, it was close by to most attractions and you could explore the town mostly by foot. I can’t recommend this hotel enough, we had a great time and will recommend it to anyone visiting Penang

Honestly no complaints, everything was to our liking.

They had turned on the AC prior to our arrival. It seemed every little effort had been made that would make it comfortable. There was iced tea and water in the fridge. The room was cool and dry and beautifully presented. They had left a couple of little cakes in the fridge in case we were hungry and these were topped up each day with a different treat, you really felt like you mattered to these people. Not intrusive but very caring.

There were some cultural things like taking your shoes off downstairs which were a bit fluffy but again the hotel had gone to such efforts to make it work by providing some shelves for the shoes and it was so clean that it didn’t seem like a bad idea. We could not recommend them enough.
