The atmosphere entering the hotel was spot on. Welcoming from the staff was warm, friendly and perfect The room itself was gorgeous, 4 poster bed that was beautifully built and we loved the black/gold theme! We had expected some noise given location but nothing disturbed us at all! The AC was great, meant you can set the temp to your liking, perfect for us as we prefer being cool overnight! The bed was a great size, very comfy and the duvet was to die for!

The pillows were down, which were too soft for us. Would have preferred Panda make to match the amazing duvet! We expected the bathroom to be small, but it was slightly smaller that expected.

Really great location and staff, and the room was brilliant, cosy and exactly as described. We were brought coffee and pastries in the morning and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back!

A lot of the water jets in the shower head were blocked meaning the shower was very low pressure. The sink was very small and we found it hard to use. A lot of the apps on the tv didn’t work including YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Prime. These weren’t dealbreakers, just a few little touches that need upgrading.

Very well located and staff were super friendly. They gave us a free soap when we got there and made us feel comfortable. The room itself was modern and the hot tub was amazing. The entire hotel is beautiful and we can’t wait to go back. The breakfast was really nice as well and brought us immediately.

The John Terry room was a bit small inside and the bathroom was quite a tight fit. It’s also quite loud in the hotel and you can often hear other guests and then things being moved round the hotel. We would probably opt for a bigger room next time. It’s also extremely expensive for a small room.

Everything Absolutely fantastic stay at the Impossible Hotel, can't wait to tell people about this place for their trips to York. After a wander over the river and past the city walls and main gate we entered the streets of York to finally find a small old door in the side of a historical building. To be greeted by the following. Friendliest staff at any hotel, efficient and informative, the lady who welcomed us had a wonderful welcoming smile and great banter. She let us in and upstairs to the reception The warren of corridors are aesthetically stunning, dark and looming with a modern twist to an ancient feel, black wooden panels on the walls trimmed with golden door knockers and knobs, glass panels allowing safety to see people coming the other way along the dim corridor beyond. Orange lighting offering a guide line along the floor and door frames illuminating a trip down the rabbit hole, leaving you wondering what wonders could lie at the end of the tunnel you descend. Eventually the heavy old doors to the rooms open offering a surprise beyond. A comfortable warm bed in the centre of the room, our was the Dungeon so had no windows as advertised, a glass wall behind the bed hiding the toilets and showers, a huge TV mounted on one wall offering a movie channel and TV channels as well as the option to connect your own device if you like. Complimentary tea and coffee available in your room, also pastries upon request the next morning. We were also offered a coffee machine for use if we wanted one. The under bed lighting gives a feel of modern adventure as you sink under the sheets. Illuminating the slanted floor and reflecting up the old bricks of the basement walls. There is a large radiator for heat and an air con unit should you need it in summer.

The location is amazing for exploring York! We loved our visit, the hotel felt like a little secret hideaway with the glowy hallways and quirky deco. Brilliant :) We had the Joseph terry room and it was such a treat. The hot tub is amazing, it felt really private but amazing to be able to see the stars. The staff were all super helpful and I loved that soap we got when we arrived!

The room was absolutely fantastic but I did think the room itself would be a little more spacious given that it’s £400 a night. It was rather small and my husband had to crouch a bit to fit in the shower. But saying that we absolutely loved our stay and the patio and hot tub made it feel very luxurious.

The rooms are really interesting and the idea is fun being in the basement. The staff were great and really helpful. I liked the room (Dungeon room) it was cosy and clean. The location is great. I have seen some negative reviews on here, but if these folks would have read up on the place first, then they may not have stayed, we liked it.

The shelf in the Dungeon room is not secure to the wall and is of no use. This needs refixing, and we told reception. The sink kept blocking, and the tap was loose on the sink, minor things a plumber could fix in an hour. The major downside is the lack of soundproofing the doors to the rooms, which are quite thin and don't inspire you to be too noisy. Another way of thinking, though, is you can hear the room next door playing a game of twister, so they are clearly not listening to what you are up to in your own room if you get my meaning.

Location was great. Staff were amazing. We stayed on a Tuesday night and it was very quiet. Which we thought was great. We stayed in the red room and loved how quirky it was. Loved that the keycard allowed you to go in and out as many times as possible. The room was warm (stayed in april) We parked a 10 min walk from motel which was fine for us.

It would be fantastic if they supplied shower gel by the bath as its locked in the shower. Also another fun thing would be if they provided some bubble bath for the bath. (We went and purchased some from the little shop opposite) The pillows are very soft. So if you like a firm pillow definitely bring one. I did think the price would of been more fair if it was a tad cheaper we paid £190 i think £170 Would of been a fairer price for a term time tuesday weekday. Other than that the whole stay was fantastic. Another note if you vape or smoke (we vape) it's prohibited from the motel and rooms, there isn't any smoking or vaping area so it is a bit of a trek down 2 lots of stairs and out the motel on to the street to vape.

Lovely quirky hotel in a fantastic location. Great room with everything you need. Very friendly staff and very helpful, we were able to leave our bags there all day then when we checked in they were in the room waiting for us. Comfy bed. Very good blackout curtains didn't let in a scrap of daylight, so slept well. Cute little touches in the room like the (battery powered) candles, which gave it a nice glow to sleep in. Great location for the Ivy for dinner then Betty's for breakfast. Nice touch that you can access Pink bar through the hotel and you get a discount on cocktails.... and they were yummy!

Our room was straight across from reception so heard a little noise from other people going to their rooms but was minimal and some noise outside with pubs closing due to the great location, but it was a Sunday night so again quite minimal (and there's ear plugs in the room if needed). A shame there's no breakfast option but so close to some great places, so not really a problem... and mcdonalds next door if you want to bring breakfast in. The only slight negative was the bathroom pod is quite small and the shower doesn't have a door fully across so the floor gets very flooded - that was the only slight negative I could find it's a lovely place!

We absolutely loved our stay. The hotel and room was very quirky with the open shower and toilet. The room was very minimal but cosy with a comfy bed and low lighting. A lot of reviews mentioned about noise from other rooms and outside but we never heard anything. The staff were absolutely brilliant, they were very talkative and added extras into the room on request such as rose petals and drinks on arrival.

The only negative thing I can say is there could have been a small sofa or table in the room to be able to put things on as the small table already there was already full with the kettle and cups. Would have been nice to have a rug on the floor as it was all concrete however they did supply slide on slippers.
