Breakfast was good, the room was lovely and the location quite central.

We did not like the £15 per night additional charge for parking. I hadn't picked up on this when I booked. We also did not like the suggestion that we pay £3 per person not to have our room serviced for "the environment ". I'm all for green policies but the hotel should pay for a saving in their cleaning bills not the customer. Also, only tiny plastic containers of milk in the bedroom. Not enough for teas or coffees and hardly in keeping with good environmental policy.

Quirky, beautifully appointed hotel. Lux decor and very good facilities. All areas were clean, well decorated and with quality furniture. The bedroom - a classic- was spacious (huge comfortable bed!) and the bathroom was clean and had excellent fittings. The tea and coffee supplies were top- fresh coffee bags etc. The food was superb, massive choice at breakfast of just about everything you’d want, hot or cold. The evening meal was delicious. Special mention for an amazing French onion soup ! Hotel has a policy of servicing your room unless you ask them not to - in which case you get some credits to spend in the hotel. (Bit different from the last hotel I reviewed on here in Cheltenham , who wanted £20 per night EXTRA to service your room!) can’t say enough about this fab hotel. Will definitely use Hotel du Vin again.

Slight hitch with communication at the reception desk - I didn’t understand everything the receptionist was saying and there comes a point when you can’t keep asking to have stuff repeated. Also I don’t have a difficult surname but had to repeat it and spell it for her to find my booking. It wasn’t a good start but the rest if the stay certainly made up for it.

Superb breakfast in lovely surroundings. An interesting space that was light and airy with a quirky decor. Beautiful crisp white table linen. A good balance of staff intervention and autonomy.

While our room, a suite was quite magnificent, we found it a little dark due to its situation in the attic area. On our return I expect we will request a room with a little more natural light. The bed was extremely comfortable. We had the tasting menu which was enjoyable with sensible portions. The accompanying wines were very good and well paired to the dishes. However our waitress/sommelier while knowledgeable was extremely busy and rushed through the wine descriptions and seemed a little irritated by our questions.

Our room was spacious and had all the facilities that we could require, breakfast gave us lots of options and we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts without overeating as there was a lot to choose from. Our bedroom was spacious, the tv was more than large enough, The bathroom had everything in it that we needed. The hotel location is great and very close to the city walls. The staff were always friendly and helpful.

The duvet was very heavy and made sleeping difficult and really warm, we believe it was feather down which might not agree with everyone due to allergies. Our bathroom loo was not as clean as we would have expected upon arrival, it was stained and should have been better, the carpet in our room looked like it needed a better clean as well. Charging £15 per day for parking was a bit excessive in our opinion.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We stayed in the Perrier-Jouët Suite at Hotel du Vin in York and honestly, we didn’t want to leave! This place is luxury with a capital L. The suite was stunning — beautifully furnished with plush textures, a freestanding bath that screams “soak for hours,” a huge walk-in shower, and the most massive, cloud-like bed we’ve ever slept in. Pure comfort from head to toe. Breakfast in the bistro was a delight, especially thanks to Michelle, who was so warm and friendly — she really made us feel at home. The food was top-notch too (you won’t leave hungry!). And for a little something extra — the cigar shack outside is such a unique touch. A perfect spot to unwind in the evening with a drink in hand, surrounded by the charm of the courtyard. Five stars, no doubt. Stylish, relaxed, and just the right amount of indulgent. We’ll be back!

This is such a high standard of hotel - I've been in 4 star hotels in Berlin and London and they're nothing compared to this. The staff were so attentive and friendly, and the rooms were just perfect. Comfy beds, absolutely spotless, nice big bathroom... Also, the breakfast offerings are SO GOOD. I had the smoked salmon scrambled egg and it was absolutely gorgeous.

The only thing we didn't like were the duvets - seems to be quite high tog, ended up sleeping on top because we were too warm - and the proximity to the road means you'll likely hear traffic in the late evening/night. I was too tired to notice but it was loud enough for my parents, so may be worth keeping in mind if you're a noise-sensitive sleeper.

Staff were lovely. Drink vouchers in return for keeping towels for duration and making own bed was great idea. Location was perfect for walking into York. Fantastic breakfast.

£15 per day parking when the hotel had its own large carpark!. Breakfast great, but expensive at £24. Room wasn't perfectly clean (I.e. stains on coasters in bathroom, dust on mirror in bathroom and on bedside table shelf). Broken shower dispenser and shelf. Very noisy water pipes when other residents turned on the bathwater and persistent air extractor in bathroom that went on all night. These could all have been quirks of our particular room which was tucked away at the top of a back staircase.

Good location and very comfortable room. All staff polite and helpful... going above and beyond to help with early dinner reservations. I left behind a charger which has been located and is being returned.

We booked the dinner, bed and breakfast package. We were told that some more expensive options had a supplement charge... which was totally fine. However, upon ordering the lamb, we had to pay £4.50 to have potatoes with it and upon ordering a £12.99 salad, we had to pay £5 to have chicken with it. Since most meals on our tariff were around £19.99... a £17.99 chicken salad didn't seem unreasonable... and who just has a plate of lamb? We had to pay an additional £12.50 on the 1st night and then £14.00 on the second... on top of our initial payment. We would stay again...but only on the bed and breakfast package... so many reasonably priced restaurants around.

Room and common areas beautiful. Breakfast wonderful. We are really glad we stayed here but you are about a half mile from walled city which we found to be fine. Also about the same distance to train station which made for easy walk to/from hotel. Had a nice drink credit at bar by skipping room servicing! It’s a quiet property on a lively street.

It’s a thing we experience frequently: only one luggage rack in the room snd we could not get a second one when we asked. No great place for second suitcase and that means someone has to put suitcase on floor. Makes no sense in a room for two people!

Beautiful hotel set in period property..Easy to find with excellent car parking. Check in a little manic as nobody could check in before 3pm,odd when rooms were ready,so long queue for check in a little unnecessary . Bar area and restaurant we're really nice, evening meal and breakfast although good wasn't exceptional. Room was large clean and very nice. Location just a 15 minute stroll into the city centre..Great choice for a couple of nights especially travelling by car. Competivly priced for York.

Nothing major...information pack about the hotel and its history and details about local bars restaurants and attractions would have been nice in your room
