The location is in the middle of town so ideal. Hosts were really nice and told me where I could park which is 2 mins away and also letting us leave our cases as we arrived early. Breakfast was beautiful and bed comfy.
On the main road to the lake so if you are a light sleeper you will hear cars driving past till 11pm and starting again around 6 am. The room we had was well in need of refurbishment which we were told were due to be done so if I booked again I would check I had a newly renovated room away from the road. Would preferably have a material bed head as couldn't prop up comfortably on metal one.

Very good value for money - classic small guest house in a good location: the main bus 'station' is 2 minutes walk away and so is the nearest public car park (free with token provided). Plenty of eating places within easy walking distance. Excellent breakfast - in terms of both choice and quality. Whole building clean and well-maintained.
Points to note, rather than complaints: As is usual in such establishments, no lift. There is a dog. My (single) room was not exactly spacious. The logistics of picking up the parking token are a bit of a challenge when you first arrive; nowhere to stop by the property, so park the car and leave one person to sweet talk the traffic warden if necessary while the other goes to fetch the token. If you arrive during the day at busy times (ie while day-trippers are in the area) you may struggle to find a space in the car parks covered by the token.

The B and B is in a central location, 5 minutes walk from most amenities. The staff are friendly and helpful. Food was normal B and B fare served with a smile. The parking disc was a good bonus. ( free parking locally.) I managed to spill orange juice all over my breakfast...they sorted me out another meal without any fuss.
The owners are doing a gradual refurb, so our room was a bit dated. ( though I was aware beforehand ). Due to its location, there is a lot of traffic outside which seems relentless during peak periods.

Great location for the area I wanted to explore & a 2 minute walk from several places to eat. Really warm welcome & great breakfasts.
My room was quite dated, & the shower room was so tiny that if I wanted to use the wash basin I had to leave the door open. There were no spare sockets thrat weren’t already in use so if I wanted to charge my phone or use the hairdryer I had to unplug something else! Both minor irritants though which didn’t prevent me enjoying my stay.

Meg and John (and Mia!) were very welcoming. Loved having the fire doors so can't hear any noises from other guests if they are on thw corridors late/early. Breakfast was really lovely - pancakes super fluffy. We would absolutely recommend and will stay again whenever we return to the lakes. Great location, central to most and very friendly. Mia the dog was so well behaved and a great little addition to the b&b. Meg and John both went out of their way to help and assist us with our weekend plans and can't thank you enough for that! Thank you for a delightful anniversary weekend. It really was the best

This is my first time staying anywhere where I genuinely think if I were to come back here I would stay here again intentionally. The owners are absolutely lovely. I ended up arriving early due to train strikes and even though they were still cleaning the room they gave me the key so that I could come back and enter my room whenever I was ready, and put my bag in my room for me.The breakfast is really generous which is amazing because from what I've seen you would probably be paying at least £15 for the same thing at a cafe or bistro here and they wouldn't be nearly as generous. When leaving the owners stopped to ask what I'd done with my time and about my plans and wish me well, even though they must have still been busy handling breakfast for the other patrons.Just genuinely lovely people, and a great place to stay. Honestly right next to the bus stop coming in and out of ambleside, and you have keys to come and go whenever you want. The front door is always locked so I felt very safe here.

This is the third time we have stayed at Compston House. John and Megan have worked so hard and with such care to build their business. They were very welcoming, and happy for us to leave our luggage for 6 hours after we had checked out, which we really appreciated. Immaculately clean and great attention to detail.
As I'm not personally a fan of cooked breakfasts, some more flexibility would have been great, but maybe I’m unusual in this regard!

Compton House is in an excellent location. We could easily walk everywhere in Ambleside we needed to go to ie shops, restaurants, buses and Ambleside wharf. The hosts were very friendly and helpful with advice and helping us with our luggage. Breakfasts were extensive and John (our hosts) made excellent GF pancakes! Thank you John!! Our room was roomy, warm and bed comfortable. We can highly recommend it.

The hosts Megan and John were lovely, nothing was to much trouble and they made us feel so much at home. The decor is very modern and clean through out," you even have a blue tooth speaker in the shower". Breakfast was first class and plenty of it . It is central to all the shops, pubs and restaurants plus its an added bonus to have a free parking pass!!!!!. If you are travelling out and about you can use your pass in certain car parks. The bus stop is a 2 mins walk and only £2.00 if you have to pay. Thankyou both for a lovely stay, we cant leave baby josh out 🤗, we will certainly be back again next year.

Clean, well presented and well appointed. Nice breakfast room and lounge. Really lovely husband and wife team running the place. I was in the single room and it was great. Good size, own bathroom.
The only thing was that one of the shelves was a bit wobbly and the TV was a bit high up to watch comfortably, but both minor things. The single room is due to be upgraded soon.
