Look no further—Hippo Boutique Hotel is the place to stay in Cape Town! Fantastic location in the heart of the Gardens area, a short Uber ride to the waterfront. I was drawn in by the trendy area and loved the idea of three restaurants to choose from for breakfast! They did not disappoint! Each was delicious and all within walking distance. (One was downstairs!) There is a grocery store around the corner, spas in the area, and the room was top notch! The room was heavenly! The bed was cozy, A/C perfect, the kitchenette was useful, and I can’t rave enough about the bathroom! The shower was hot with ideal water pressure and the bathtub allowed for perfect nightly bubble baths! Pick up a bubble bar from Lush at the V&A Waterfront mall and your stay will be complete! I can’t rave enough and look forward to a future stay! Other reviews struggled to find the lift, but it was easy to locate from the parking area, and I was at the front side of the building and did not hear the outside noise.

Nothing, I loved it all!

The hotel has such a great location with restaurants and entertainment so close. The staff were very friendly at reception when we checked in. Our room was neat and clean and the staff arranged for 2 beds as requested as i was staying with a friend.

Unfortunately due to the high winds the building awning on the top floor at the back of the building came loose at about 22h00 and it was banging the whole night. So although the bed was comfy i didnt get a good nights rest. I did get the gentleman on duty to come have a look at the problem from our sliding door at about 23h00 as the banging was unpleasant. It would have been nice if he offered us another room (if one was available) to ensure we got a good nights rest. The banging got worse through the night as the wind didnt subside. I also told the lady on duty in the morning about it. I hope that it has now been repair.

The location was brilliant, a short Uber ride to V and A waterfront. Easy walk to hop on hop off bus and Bo Kaap. Felt very safe walking around this area and there are lots of nice restaurants so you can try the local cuisine. The team here at the Hippo is amazing with a massive thanks to Karen, who was an absolute superstar. She arranged a great day tour to the cape for us, and nothing was a problem. Great with local knowledge, too. I would also like to mention Allan, who was equally as hospitable although he wasn't on shift as much. The rooms are spacious, very clean, housekeeping keep them spic and span. All in all, a fabulous 5 night stay, which we would rate 5 stars out if 5.

The staff were amazing, very helpful and friendly. The hotel is close to a number of lovely restaurants and shops and central to tourist attractions. The room was spacious with a small kitchenette. This ideal for business or leisure travel.

Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable, luxury rooms, very clean with bath and shower. Lovely heated rooms with heated towel rails, great in winter. Hotel is walking distance from good restaurants, pubs and the Labia theatre. Staff service rooms daily and has 24 hour support. Breakfast vouchers at nearby restaurants, added treat. Will definitely stay there again.

Loved the breakfast at Egg Head restaurant, but Therapy restaurant was underwhelming with slow service.

I asked for Room 101 which was apparently booked long term by someone who smoked in their room. The staff were aware of this but did nothing about it. The person also played music loudly. Long term or not, they should consider everyone staying around them, and respect rules.

They gave me a room at the front of the hotel, on the street with noise coming up from the restaurants and their patrons. They did move me to room 102 after I told them I was not prepared to stay in a room permeating base noises from the music. Although the room is lovely, I would not want to ever be put there again.

The room was very big and nice and even had a kitchenette. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom had shower and bath. The wifi worked well. One can have free coffee (espresso machine) in the reception area. Breakfast works with vouchers and you choose the place to have breakfast, worked fine and the place just next to the hotel was very good. The location is very good, in a nice area with plenty of restaurants, and within walking distance to downtown centre.

the only issue was that sometimes people were talking in the corridor going to reception, and late in the evening. Hotel should ask people to avoid talking loud because it’s a nuisance. Probably isolation was not great.

The staff were all exceptional and went out of their way to help me. I was in a difficult situation, but they all stepped in to help, and things were sorted out quickly. The venue itself was weloming pristine and comfortable. The location is also convenient, close to restuarants, bars and shops. The area also has a lively vibe.

They need reserved parking outside the front for collection by Uber or taxi. The current system is a bit complicated.

Very well located, fun, busy area, full of restaurants. Staff were friendly and helpful. They have on site parking which is fabulous to have in the city. Only suggestion I have is that they add sheer curtains over the Roman blinds so you can have natural light and privacy in the room and not just fully open windows or fully closed. Other than that, the small details are great. Having a make up mirror, enough plugs etc

Everything was REALLY perfect. But the standout feature was - and I really never say this - the staff! We met quite a few and ALL of them were astonishingly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to be nice. It makes SO MUCH difference to a happy stay. Contrasting, we paid 3 times more to stay at Parker Cottage before this, and the Hippo staff really need to give them some training! 100% 5 Stars.
