Got upgraded to the honeymoon suite which was huge and the views were incredible. Location is great to walk into town. Hotel arranged taxis when required although a shuttle bus into town would be a good idea!

Breakfast was very poor with limited choices. This could definitely be improved.

Gorgeous view over the lake. Sun poured into the room in the afternoon making it very cosy. Sleep quality was very good. Underfloor heating was a wonderful luxury and the soaking bath tub a dream with comfortable Terry robes to wrap yourself in after a soak. Yes the building is a grand old dame but besides showing age we found it comfortable and charming. I had read previous criticisms on breakfast options but I am happy to say we found breakfast to suite us perfectly. There was enough fresh fruit, yogurts and pastries to choose from as well as a lovely hot menu to order from. Great location and staff were super helpful and friendly, there was a bit of a reunion or party on the Saturday night and staff were concerned that we were disturbed. We were not at all put out but we were very impressed that staff were concerned and ready to sort it out if needed. We had a fabulous stay.

On my return to L'ermitage I'd say it's the same place, same standards, same hospitality, hence when I come back this side L'ermitage will be my first choice again. From allowing my quite early check in without hassle, to basically giving me everything I asked of them, this is a home away from home with all the luxuries available for a very comfortable stay...including even a complementary wine. My family couldn't have asked for better and they had a great time...

I'm not easily pleased and believe everything can always be improved, but I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place...

The views are breathtaking from our villa. The views from the breakfast dining area are also so spectacular. The rooms and facilities are well taken care of and so clean. The staff is super friendly and so helpful from the security guard, to the receptionist, porters, kitchen staff, and cleaners. The icing on the cake was having the option to send the receptionist any questions or concerns on whatsapp, it was quick and efficient. I would 100% stay here again in the future.

This is not a huge deal but I felt that the bathroom needs more storage space for toiletries. we had no place to place our toiletry bags, and maybe consider having a shower caddy for shower gels and shampoo. Another suggestion is to have towels for the pool in the villa so we don't have to ask for them at the reception area. However they did assist as with the towels when we asked, thank you.

Rooms were comfortable and well provided. The place is generally quiet and away from the hustle and bustle, which is very good

There could have been one or more coffee tables in the lounge, to make it easier to sit and enjoy drinks in the evening. The streaming to watch TV was also not that good. DSTV would be better, as channel shifting was often quite challenging The most uncomfortable aspect relates to our experience in the breakfast room. Having to repeat our villa number (56) to no fewer than 3 different waiters was not a happy experience. It left one wondering whether the hotel sometimes encounters 'non-paying' guests in for breakfast, and whether we had been mistakenly fallen under suspicion - not a good feeling at all. If verification has to be done, it could be more discreet. Furthermore, on day 2, the service at breakfast was quite poor.

Beautiful place - the main building is lovely - breakfast by the lake is a real treat. We were in a self catering apartment which was very comfortable, lovely bed / bedding / towels etc. The gardens are pretty - the most amazing scented honeysuckle everywhere! Security at the entrance gate.

Our little terrace faced the back of the main building and the big extractor fan was honestly so noisy we couldn’t sit outside which was a shame. It’s not walkable into Franschhoek but you can use the local version of Uber (JJ) for about £5 each way.

Lovely location, the villa that we stayed in was superb…lovely size rooms with a fantastic outside area, overlooking the lake and with a great view of the mountains. The breakfast selection was very good.

Unfortunately, there was a large amount of maintenance work going on so there was quite a lot of building noise over the couple of days that we were there. We were quite surprised this was taking place in the middle of high season. The pool was very small for the amount of villas on the site.

We were not happy with our first room which was not the lakeside accommodation we thought we had booked. The accommodation was 100% booked but Esme the receptionist was very helpful and we were transferred next morning to a lovely lakeside villa (31) in the older part with a beautiful setting looking across the lake to the mountains. Breakfast was good with a large selection to choose from and a choice of eating inside or outside by the lake. The villa was spotless and beds really comfortable. The staff were all lovely and any problems quickly sorted via WhatsApp with reception. The restaurant was only open for breakfast but it was only a 25 minute walk/5 minute car journey into the centre of town where there were plenty of restaurants and two excellent supermarkets for self catering. We had a full size fridge/freezer in the kitchen for storing any food etc. (and four dining areas in the villa). The bathrooms were lovely with so much storage in the dressing area. The decor may not have all been to our taste but we felt as if we were staying in a home rather than a hotel. We will definitely come back.

We did not like the first room we were shown to. The furnishings were more modern but there were several steps to negotiate although the bell boy carried our suitcases for us. The only way to see the lake was to lean over the balcony and it was also close to a modern pool which was very noisy. While we were staying there there was a large group who appeared to be on a cycling tour. I appreciate it is good income for the hotel but they were very loud and seemed to think it was their right to take over the outside dining area even asking other guests to move.

The apartment was really comfortable, modern and beautifully furnished. Our family had a wonderful time. The staff were very helpful and super friendly.

I booked a unit that I thought had an indoor fireplace in it - there was certainly a photo of one for the specific room I booked on Booking.com. I was very disappointed that we were allocated a room/apartment without the fireplace. Booking.com should not falsely advertise accommodation.

room size was an absolute bonus - plenty of space for all. plenty of cupboard space water was wonderfully hot :) we were extremely comfortable in the unit. surprised with the few little comforts found in the kitchen and fridge (coffee/milk etc) All staff we came into contact with were incredibly helpful and friendly - went out their way to make sure we were looked after. Ideal location, lovely area and surrounds

art in the unit doesn't really gel - rather leave the walls blank a few areas where paint needs to be touched up on the walls (can see where there was damp problems before) a few mis matched items in the kitchen. for our stay no problem at all a few extra hangers would help.
