Staying at Eastcliff Cottage dispelled a long-held myth that we harboured, that Hermanus can only be truly enjoyed and appreciated when accommodation is a seaside hotel or self-catering apartment right across from the ocean. Instead, we had a quiet and tranquil garden to enjoy the bird life at dawn or to retreat to at any other time, a mere 400 steps from the cliff path at The Marine Hotel. It is close enough for the sound of the waves to lull us to sleep at night yet just far enough away to avoid most of the noise that follows mankind about. Another 400 steps or so placed us at the front door of most of the shops and restaurants in central Hermanus and the old harbour precinct, making dining out or getting the ingredients to prepare our own for a candle lit dinner on the deck at the cottage a pleasant stroll away. Ruth, the engaging and helpful owner, went well out of her way to ensure that our stay exceeded expectations, a welcome break from service personnel one would so often encounter elsewhere. If this were a game of some sort the score would have been Seaside Accommodation 3 Eastcliff Cottage 5. Genuinely looking forward to staying here again when next we are in Hermanus

The cottage was lovely and Ruth was so accommodating as well as giving us some lovely recommendations for walks and swimming spots. The cottage overlooked a lovely bird friendly garden and had a balcony/deck which we spent many hours on watching birds, relaxing along with the odd sundowner. Eastcliff Cottage is very well located and we didn’t use our car once after we’d parked until leaving. Walking to the shops and local market was very easy. The cottage had a small kitchen but was provided with everything necessary if you preferred to cook, prepare something yourself or enjoy some of the market foods, take aways etc.

Although it is so central it is incredibly peaceful and the only sound is the birds chirping in the garden. Five minutes (less even) walk to all the shops, restaurants, cliff path and marine pool. The kitchen is well equipped and great that it is a separate room. The security is excellent too with secure parking as well. A lovely deck offers a shady outdoor area to relax and eat a meal. Ruth is a great host and we would love to return.

Ruth was a great host, so friendly, and a mine of information about Hermanus and surrounds. We had secure parking and our favourite, enjoying the well laid out cliff path which is very long, but many entries and exit. Thank you for a great stay.

Very nice apartment on a quiet side street in the middle of Hermanus with restaurants, stores and the cliff path within a few minutes walking distance. Ruth was very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Bonus: we spotted an owl in the garden 2 times :)

Proximity to town& coastal path. Very comfortable beds. Kitchenette was stocked with functional high-quality cutlery/cutlery (hate blunt knives) Lovely private veranda bordering onto shaded indigenous treed garden.

An absoloutely wonderful stay. Ruth is a thoughtful and kind host and nothing is too much trouble. The location is perfect, walkable to main hub and loads of restaurants. Cottage was super comfy and clean! Loved it.

Eastcliff Cottage is a very cosy and quiet place with a friendly host. You only have to turn around the corner and cross the street and there you are in the vivid centre of Hermanus with shops, restaurants and the stunning cliff path.

It was in a perfect location, close to the cliff walk, shopping and restaurants yet in a very quiet residential neighborhood. The cottage was well equipped and excellent for,two people.
