The hotel is really beautiful, the room was super nice and and clean and the bathroom as well. We had a great view over the river from the 5th floor and the beds were really comfortable. Also the AC worked perfectly (which was a huge relief in the heat wave). The people working in Melia were also very friendly and helpful.

The gym equipment was quite old and could be renewed but this is complaining on a really high level. There were very few clothes hangers and room for storage in general so that could be improved. There was also no toilet brush which surprised me. The cleaning staff sometimes knocked and came into the room quite early to clean the rooms. I think better communication from the hotels side could avoid any akward situations here by telling the guests explicitly to put out the "room is free for cleaning" sign.

Stylish hotel in nice area of Bilbao by the river. You can walk everywhere from here. We got the connecting rooms which was perfect for a family of 4 with teenagers. The bathrooms were lovely and spacious and the beds were so comfy. Breakfast was great - smashed avocado, hummus, eggs, artisan bread all with lovely views over the park. Would recommend day trip to Guggenheim, Old Town, views from the top of the Funicular and a day out to San Juan de Gaztelugatxe where they filmed parts of Game of Thrones. Would recommend a city break in Bilbao and the Melia - but be sure to keep your possessions safe in your room. Pool was tiny and cold but gym and sauna were good.

Unfortunately whilst we were there a bottle of men’s expensive aftershave went missing from the bathroom. Reading other reviews it seems that this is not a one off experience and has rather tainted our stay. You would expect more from a 5 star hotel. We liked the hotel but it felt 4 star not 5.

Helpful staff, most of the time. The swimming pool on the 6th floor with views was great and mostly empty! A nice big bathroom with option of bath or shower and fabulous 'Rituals' products to use. I liked how close it was to the Guggenheim, the river and the city centre, plus it was a short taxi ride from the airport.

The complimentary teas and coffees in the room were rather poor and for a 5 star hotel I would have expected there to be complementary drinking water, well there wasn't and the staff on reception at the time when I asked, said it was a flat NO from the manager, MEAN! We couldn't get the TV to talk to our devices in order to watch Netflix on the big screen, the instructions to do this were not clear at all.

Our welcome was great and the cleaners, reception, breakfast and bar staff were all lovely. It was our 25th wedding anniversary and we found a bottle of cava, cake and a nice note from teh hotel staff waiting for us in our room.Lifts were fast and gave a great view of the lobby. Our room [820] was spacious with great views. The buffet breakfast was very good with lots of variety. Finally the location was great with a lovely park and Gran Via behind, and the river walk to the Guggenheim and the old town in front. There was a tram stop nearby if you didn't fancy the 20 minute walk to casco viejo. It even had a retail centre next door where I was able to buy swimming trunks as I forgot mine! The pool is small but adequate, heated to 29C and has great views.

The shower in our room wasn't great for me oscillating between hot and cold, although my wife said it worked ok for her. However the mens' shower by the pool and gym was excellent.

Room was clean and of a good size with good facilities in the room. All views from the hotel were great especially ours as it was overlooking the river. There was a great choice of food at breakfast. Also the location was perfect for exploring Bilbao and felt like a very safe envronment especially with my young family. The gym and the views from the swimming pool are a great selling point.

The only slight issues I had was that at breakfast it could get quite busy and in some areas it was quite narrow - it could be a bit more spaced out so people don't get on top of others. i was especially worried with a few young children. The other was the lack of parking at the hotel and this could be made a bit more clearer to be able to book parking before for example rather than turn up and hope for the best. Although there is good parking in the area.

The Melia Bilbao is located close to the Guggenheim with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. All tourist areas were easily accessed by walking and the hotel is located adjacent to parks and river walks.

The maintenance of the room was disappointing (carpet badly stained) and the breakfast didn’t live up to expectations. The towels and dressing gowns were also not to a 5 star standard. We’ve stayed in the Melia previously ( Seville & Milan) and this Melia was definitely below the standards found in those 2 hotels.

Great room - lovely outlook over the park. Walking distance to the Guggenheim. Euros were on in the bar which was great but slightly awkward to also have a large group doing a wine tasting in there at the same time.

The mini bar wasn't stocked with water or champagne which was a bit of a shame. Also not the nicest welcome as we were a little early and no effort was made to get us into a room - at check in time our room still wasn't ready so we had to upgrade at a cost to get into a room in time for a work call. Feel perhaps the room could have been offered at no charge given our room wasn't ready but.

The room was beautiful and comfortable. The view was lovely. The staff were extremely helpful and we enjoyed grabbing a drink at the bar in the evenings and the breakfast display was very delicious. We also enjoyed spending time in the upper lounge areas while waiting for our flight before heading to the airport. We enjoyed to pool too!

The staff was very helpful and kind. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a lovely view on the park. Great location if you are travelling with kids - it's a calm neighbourhood with many parks around.

Complimentary bottles of water upon arrival would have been appreciated. Also, the main entrance is not wheel-chair accessible, you have to use a lift instead, which can become a little tiring if you are going back and forth often.

Lovely location, rooms very nice and comfortable. Pool very nice and sauna/gym also very good. Staff were very good, front of house staff and concierge excellent.

Housekeeping could be better. Rooms needed hoovering. The breakfast was a big dissapointment. First the room is a big basement room with no natural light and a carpet stained and grubby. The food is average and not worth the price.
