The location is unbeatable- attached to the Calderon Theatre, it's close to metro, bus, Plaza del Sol and more. The staff were also excellent. We had a few issues arise with our room during our stay- we shared a wall with the theatre so a siesta was impossible, we had two twin beds on wheels instead of a double bed, and most noticeably, our shower wasn't sealed properly and flooded the bathroom floor. After speaking to the staff, they listened patiently and tried to come up with a solution that worked for us and also immediately came up with extra towels and such. We were leaving the next morning, but I was impressed by how well they responded and they made me feel like a valued customer. Despite these problems, due to their handling of the issue, I would come and stay again in the future.

When I booked, we chose the option for a double bed instead of twin beds. The hotel did email us saying it was subject to availability, but had we known we would be getting twin beds, we likely would have cancelled our booking and chosen another location. Also, this may not have been as much of a problem had the beds not been on wheels (or used wheels that can be locked in place). The beds themselves were comfy, but them moving around constantly was not a comfortable setup. Also, while most of the hotel was very quiet and calm, be aware that one side of the hotel shares a wall with the theatre, so it can be quite noisy while the shows are on (never early morning or late at night though, thankfully).

Loved the hotel! We stayed only for one night, but really enjoyed - quiet neighbourhood (but very central), clean room, had everything you need for a comfy stay. And the bed is very comfortable! Definitely recommend

I have stayed in this hotel 7 times! It is my goto hotel whenever I am in Madrid. The upgrades and renovations during covid has been awesome. I will continue to stay here when ever I come to madrid which will be in 2025

The location of the hotel was perfect. We did not need to use the public transportation at all as the hotel was walking distance to all the places we wanted to visit. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was very good. They even had a selection of gluten free products. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The insulation in the windows was excellent as we did not hear street noise at all even though the hotel is in a busy street. We even had a balcony which was very nice. The drainage in the shower was very good. Lights in the room are very good and the turn on/off buttons are conveniently located.

The bathroom has no ventilation. You need to wait for a while to get rid of the mist after shower. The hooks to hang your towels are in a weird spot and very inconvenient. The bathroom door clashes with the toilet. Would have been nice to have a sliding door at the bathroom as there is no space to open the door without clashing with the toilet. They use two separate sheets as a duvet cover and during your sleep they open and your body touches the duvet, which you do not prefer. I highly recommend them to use proper duvet cover. The elevator is very slow. You wait a lot. It needs renovation. Renovation of some of tge furniture would be nice.

Nice staff especially the blond gentleman at the front desk didn’t catch his name I originally had a twin bed room, at my request they moved us to a single double bed. Mistake! The twin beds are in a bigger room. I hoped that when we switched, the size of the room would remain the same. Not! Twin beds are in a noticeably larger room. My bad. The front desk sent me to eat at Ginger. Follow their lead. Good meal. Good breakfast, we were happy. Bathroom good size all in all I would stay here again

Staff were friendly. Room was very comfortable. Good location. Not too far from the station and close to places we like to visit eg Lavapies. Breakfast was really lovely with lots of options for €12 per person. Madrid is an expensive place to stay but this was actually one of the less expensive hotels - still not cheap but compared very favourably with others in that area.

I know the hotel can't help with this but the first floor is actually the second floor because of a mezanine. It is what it is and I was grateful that we were given a room on the lowest floor - requested because of my anxiety. It probably wouldn't worry others. It's just I am happier being a little closer to the ground.

I really liked that we left a diamond ring in the safe and they got in contact with us and are helping us retrieve it. I mean, we could’ve thought we lost it elsewhere. So the honesty and efficiency of the staff at this hotel is just amazing. I mean I know we should expect this. But I think now a days it’s not a given. So I totally respect and appreciate their code of conduct! So will stay with them again and will always recommend others to do so. Besides it’s just got refurbished, super close to the palace museum and gardens and the plaza. So it’s perfect!

Some of the employees (a specific one, they can detect his name from the communication we had with the hotel) must be retrained...with one of his colleagues we had booked a late check-out months ago and he tried to convince us, in an aggressive and almost rude way, that we never did this and a late check-out was not possible anymore (a few days before our arrival). Thank God, his colleague read our last conversation and confirmed that he has kept a note and we don't need to worry about it.

Hotel Cortezo is well located in the city centre between 2 subway stations, Tirso de Molina and Sol. It is within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and other touristic attractions, like the Palacio Real and cathedral to the west and the Prado museum and Puerta de Alcalá to the east - a 15-minute walk in either direction (just over 1 km and flat). The hotel building is old, but the rooms are well furnished and decorated, with a modern bathroom, small desk, very good beds and air conditioning. There seems to be a sunroof at the hotel, but we didn't even go and have a look (too much to see in the city!). We didn't have breakfast in the hotel because we weren't convinced it would be better than having something in the neighbourhood - "when in Rome..." There are plenty of bars to choose from in the surrounding streets, just around the corner. Extra: the same street (Dr. Cortezo) has a deliciously hidden Asian food market, with several vegetarian and vegan options!

There are a few disadvantages such as the old, slow elevator and old, narrow corridors. Besides, the noise insulation in our room was not that good - we could hear our neighbours come and go in the hallway. Mind you, it's a struggle to get here from the airport: you have to take 3 different subway lines, with fairly difficult changes at the stations (lost of stairs & not always elevators available) when carrying suitcases! That's not the hotel's fault of course and to be clear, we would probably book the same hotel in the future!
