What a lovely hotel. Our lake view room was spacious with a perfect balcony and view, a fridge that actually kept things cold enough and everything you need from a hotel. I’d highly recommend this hotel if staying in Kandy as you can walk to most things you want to see from here. We only found a lovely rooftop bar called Slightly Chilled on our last night but highly recommend walking there for happy hour drinks at 5 pm ( 20 mins walk) Pastries at breakfast were always really fresh and delicious.

The only thing I’d recommend is for a. The toaster to be available at breakfast every day and b. The hot plates that store the breakfast items be fixed/changed so they keep the breakfast items hot ( as opposed to lukewarm) eggs were always perfect.

A great welcome from reception staff greeted us on arrival at Devon Rest. Our room was very nice with a lovely balcony overlooking the street and lake. Hot water takes a long time to come through in the shower, and when it does it’s a lovely shower. We loved our stay here and we would highly recommend it to others. We also ate in the restaurant on our first night as we had travelled from Colombo and it was getting late. The reviews for the restaurant weren’t good on others experience, so we didn’t have high expectations. But we were pleasantly surprised, we both had really lovely meals and quick service.

The hotel is well located in the middle of Kandy and our room had a view of the lake. Although it's near a main road we couldn't hear the traffic when the windows were closed-which is advisable to keep out any cheeky monkey who may otherwise wonder in! The room was a good size, as was the en-suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and it was good to have two armchairs in the room so that we could both relax to read or watch the news on TV. Breakfast and our evening meals were plentiful and delicious. The staff are attentive and friendly and they helped us to carry our luggage, which was greatly appreciated. Our trip to Sri Lanka was to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday and we had a wonderful surprise when we found a lovely chocolate birthday cake in our room, very kindly provided by the management. Kandy is very interesting to browse around and we greatly enjoyed our stroll round the lake where we saw lots of birds, ducks, fish and even two Water Monitor lizards, one of them about seven feet long. We greatly enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kandy.

Devon rest was a wonderful hotel, set in an elevated position with commanding views of the lake and Temple of the Tooth. The rooms are very quiet, a good size, very comfortable and beautifully decorated with a balcony to sit outside…(although the street below is busy) The location is very central…it’s a short walk into town and the markets and a pleasant 10 walk around the lake to Temple of the Tooth. I can highly recommend the hotel restaurant ..my breakfasts and dinners were delicious and the service was beyond amazing. Plus the location..big picture windows with views of the lake. Thank you for a very comfortable stay, particularly to you Vinot and also the wonderful restaurant staff.

We had an amazing experience at Devon Rest. The staff were incredibly kind and professional—special thanks to Vinod and Nishan for handling all our requests with such courtesy. The food was excellent and great value, and the facilities had everything we needed. Best of all, the lake view from our room was absolutely stunning. We left feeling happy, relaxed, and already planning our next visit. Highly recommend!

Perfect location, directly on the lake virtually opposite of the temple of the tooth, which is thus only 5 to 10 minute walk away along the bank of the lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The gaps around the terrace door that allowed the traffic noise during rush hour to be very loud in the room, were closed by masking tape to lower the intensity to acceptable level. The suite was huge in size.

The internet was quite poor and took over 2 hours to get the staff to reset the router, which allowed at least basic level. The breakfast staff was kind but very inexperienced. There command of English was poor and they had no real clue about the content of the different breakfasts offered on the menu.

Very comfortable room, with a great view over the lake towards the historic center - Temple of the Tooth and Royal Palace area - which was also an easy walk from the hotel. Hotel team was very friendly and service-oriented. The hotel reception organized a great tuk tuk for us at a good price to see the entire city and nearby sites.

Breakfast was not great - indeed, I was traveling in south Asia for five weeks and this was the only time my wife and I got queasy. We did not try the restaurant for other meals.

The room was tidy and well kept. The beds were comfortable. Stayed 1 night, so not much explored.

The night staff need more training on how to deal with late night check-ins and customer relations. The welcome drink cordial was unstirred and had a chunk of mango cordial in the bottom, which was unpleasant at 10pm after a long, tiring day at the SL Coffee Fest 2025. Trying to get me to pay before check-in, where, as it said, "No prepayment required," at the time I booked the room.
